As this problem has become quite common nowadays, there are plenty of services that help to locate and locate the number that was called. A friend of mine used apps to track strange phone calls. 2 weeks ago he received strange calls, at first they did not have much significance, but then it became something scary. Of course, not all are with free access, but usually for reporting locates and some more general information they help.

My sister had a similar situation. She was called every day by an unknown number that was silent! It was really frightening! She was able to find some free app where she could find information about who is calling her but, to be honest, I forgot the name of the app. If you still need it, I can find out and write the name of the app here later. In general, you can at least find out what state you are calling from. Here https://www.livesupportrhino.com/5xx-area-code you can find all US Area Codes. Maybe do you know someone living there?

it's called phone slamming, and it's illegal

You should call the police. It is harassment, and it is punished by law. But it will take time, and usually, it is hard to discover the real identity of the person sending you messages. Such people generally use fake phone numbers like the one you can get at https://quackr.io, and these numbers are tough to track. Still, if you want to know more, search for it on the internet. I am sure you will find something that might help you.
