If you don't want to be on a jury you have to be fucking stupid to not get out of it. All you have to say is your know someone who is a police officer and you are biased. If that doesn't work say you have knowledge about the type offense and you will get off. If all else fails say you believe the person is guilty because he has been accused of a crime.
If you really don't want to be on a jury you have to be the stupidest person alive to be picked. This leads to a jury filled with stupid people who couldn't get out of it. Let that sink in- you are being judged by the 12 stupidest people who showed up that day to jury duty

It's harder to get out of than you think.
The court and the lawyers are not as stupid as you make them out to be.
People try to get out of jury duty in the manner you suggest, all day long.
It doesn't actually work the way you imagine.

I agree with the last poster which is why I asked. Since I assume most people try to get out of it they heard it all and don’t care. I think the PO thing could possibly work. I assume flat out telling them no just makes them angry and will probably lead to a long and pointless trial

Just ignore the questionnaire. They have better things to do other than track down a law abiding citizen that does not have the time to waste for jury duty. If that doesn't work for you, just tell them that there is a cop in your family which is rarely a lie.

Fairfax has one day-one trial. That means if you cannot meet one of the narrow exceptions they will demand you show up, or they will send the sheriff out. Most trials are only 1-3 days. While it is relatively easy to not get put on a jury, at most you've saved yourself a couple of days. Federal jury duty in this area is far worse, and the worst of all is Federal grand jury.

I had jury duty five years ago. I sat in a room for a couple hours with other prospective jurors and than it was announced that the case we would have sat for had been settled. I could have gone to work to work the rest of my shift, but I played hooky since no one at work knew the circumstances of my jury duty day.
