These will be the first step in the future national (then global) ID program. The trouble with these is that they are WiFi ready and readable and downloadable at a distance from cars, walkers - by, drones, circling aircraft collecting date, and of course, criminals stealing masses of your info like they do with credit card scanners as they walk past you in the malls or on the street. They have microchips with all your info in them, even the info that you would rather not be giving to unknown bureaucraps from unknown agencies with unknown personal agendas.
Walking around with these things will be a identity stealer's dream and a nightmare for everyone else.

And--you really think this keeps illegals out? They were issued theirs before you are, along with their welfare checks, house, credit cards to buy their food, etc. The citizens of this country were always the last to be taken care of by the powers that be.

Oh well, better the chip coming in a id card than injected in my body somewhere.

Real ID isn't a chip or anything.

It just means that you provided an original birth certificate when you renew your driver's license. What you get is a little "star" icon stamped in the corner of your license.

It indicates to the security guards at federal buildings and the TSA at airports that your license was (re-)issued on the basis of a more reliable paper trail tham has been previously required. In other words, ir proves you showed your bitth certificate to the DMV.

Unlike the approximately 3,000 bogus drivers licenses that were issued out of the Baileys Crossroads DMV to illegal aliens in the year before they closed that location. Yes, that's at leas 3,000 illegal criminal alien voters just right there! Well, anyway. They won't have Real ID. We shall see if that means they don't get government benefits, or if it means they are guaranteed them!

Virginia has resisted Real ID because having someone look over your documents and shit is considerably more expensive than just renewing online or whatever.

Someday we will have electronic ID cards with biometrics and blah blah. Some decade. For now, you get a little gold star stamped on your license. Like when you did well in kindergarten.

Probably what gibberish-name means is that the cards are NFC-capable. That's not Wi-Fi, but it does perhaps raise some privacy concerns. It doesn't have to, though; depends on the implementation.

The range of NFC communications is about two inches.

Virginia REAL ID driver's licenses do not have a chip.
Like I said before, they just have a little gold star printed on them.

This is different than an "Enhanced" driver's license, which has an RFID
chip in it. (That's not NFC, which is different.) Virginia doesn't have that.
Your Virginia driver's license will not function as an international passport.
West Virginia ones will have the chip, though.
Virginians will have to use their regular federal Passport (small or large)
when going abroad to Mexico, Canada, etc.

No chip, sorry!

Socialist and liberal policies, is why Seattle, Portland have such problems.

Well, that's debatable. Now many people use fake IDs in the USA and feel great. Especially. that it is now possible to buy a high-quality fake scannable id for a hundred dollars and have no problems. I think this is a good solution for immigrants or other people who for some reason do not have a real ID.
