Who's the best and most reasonable (ahem, honest) HVAC company in Northern VA?
Posted by: ...in the 22039 ()

Looking to have refrigerant recharged. Who's the most honest around? The guy I used to use passed away.

What are your experiences?

Looking at Yelp, there are a couple of stand outs in either direction for good and bad. And anything which is ____ & Son(s) is suspect, as everyone knows the 2nd generation doesn't get involved in work.

Your help and suggestions are appreciated. THANKS.

If your working on your own AC unit, there's huge EPA fines and rewards for liberal tipsters, your luck may be your neighbor is a EPA mid level liberal. Find a AC tech who is licensed to handle the refrigerant and willing to work on the side.

Better yet get a real job as a HVAC tech helper, go to Nova for night training, beats Starbucks or Uber which is all most FXU lib posters do. Sorry they used to teach HVAC in FCPS, now they teach socialism and P.C B.S. Yes they have computer training instead, big deal so you can type and file for 11 dollars a hour.

Of course as a HVAC tech you will have to work, Forget the whole damm idea

I always go with Cropp-Metcalf. Reason? Decent work, not the lowest price but the more $$ Cropp gets oit of this, the more $$ his hot ex-wife gets so she can keep going out to the bars and showing off her sweater meat (I'm sure he paid for). Yes sir, keep the AC on, cold and nipply!!

the contractor that did our home made SEVERAL problems, indoors and outdoors

outdoors they didn't install the correct pad: which every shopper knows is the primary outdoor installation consideration to avoid DAMAGE.

indoors they left WATER LEAKS which created THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF DAMAGE

all clinton obama endorsed

fx co is corrupt. WTOP used to run radio ads that hiring illegals and doing un-certified work would be met with prosecution. at the same time fx co gov supervisors and employees were investing in the business DOING EXACTLY WHAT WTOP was telling others not to do.

---------------------

as a result fairfax is full of illegals (also to stuff voting boxes with), and NONE OF THE WORKERS ARE CERTIFIED FOR ANYTING. the businesses say they are licensed BUT by that they mean one person in the business is licensed and the rest are illegals. but often that also is a lie

businesses in the area don't do fx co gov inspections when they should

GUESS WHO IS PROMOTING THESE BUSINESSES OR BEHIND THEM: fx co gov workers

We were happy with Ace, but switched to Mann-In when we replaced our unit because Ace didn't carry the brand we decided on. We've been VERY happy with Mann-In. Coherent, pleasant people, and they seem to have very little turnover, which perhaps tells us something (good) about them.

But that's just our experience. HVAC is one of those hard things to rate, because how many can you really try? It's not like restaurants, where you (or a reviewer) can spend a month trying all the Bolivian restaurants in the area repeatedly: you buy a unit every 20 years or so. You just can't collect enough data.

No one on ebay asks for anything.

Have used them for over 20 years. Was able to troubleshoot issues another company was not able. Honest, family run, and reasonable prices.

This is the most valuable insight. The sons are only interested in spending the money that the dad earned, and they have to charge ridiculous prices to pay for the sons' McMansions, boats, and sports cars.

Anyone who can pass second grade successfully can get an EPA refrigerant license. The test is quite simple if you spend 45 seconds to study for it.

It was a good thing I was not armed the only time I was dumb enough to call on Michael & Sons. These are NOT at all the sort of people that I prefer to work with.

It must be horrible to be so poor that you even care about something like this.

Lol. It’s not money that the well-to-do fret over — it’s quality and dependability.

True, ad I am not even sure they have "sons" in the business. It's a game, to get you to think it's family oriented.

To replace a 3 ton system with outside it and air handler, all electric & 14 seer (Is what I have now), what would one expect to pay? No changes to ductwork or electricity. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Depending on the SEER it should run 8 to 11 thousand. Be sure to get a 10 year warranty and that warranty needs to be backed by a major manufacturer like Trane, Carrier, Lennox. Warranties by others are very unreliable. Stay away from Goodman equipment at all costs.
