Stain Overspray

Since the county office is closed right now does anyone know anything about the issue of overspray of a fence when applying stain to that fence?
My next door neighbor speaks English but it's not their first language so I'm having a tough time communicating my concern here. They told us to keep our dog in because they are having their fence stained tomorrow. I asked spray or brush and they said spray.
The problem is the fence is right next to the property line and they are staining the fence black and I do not want black stain all over my flowers and plants. I expressed my concern and he said "no problem, no worry." I'm worried.
Anyone know the best course of action if the company that sprays comes out and I can see black stain coming onto my property and plants? I'm pretty sure it will kill some things.
Ideas? Thanks.

If it's a fence with open slats or any way for the stain to get through they can't spray. If they start call the non emergency number for the police who will make them stop until and contact the county. The county will tell them that it's a form of trespass just like you can't spray pesticide onto your neighbor's property. Most police offices have bi-lingual officers so they can explain the issue clearly.

Plastic disposable drop cloth, every painting company has them. Cover them yourself if you're so paranoid, it's $3 at home depot.

Nothing from someone else's property can come to yours unless it's an act of God... which fucking stain is not.

Thanks for the help. The county says to call the police if the neighbor hires someone to spray because yes, it is illegal to spray onto my yard and plants.
The can use a brush. It will be more work and cost them more but that is not my problem.

I'm closer to your point of view than you might think. I did try to talk to the neighbor and was very pleasant. I want him to get his fence stained if he wants it stained.
I also realize that it's his responsibility not to damage my property and he can accomplish that by hiring someone to brush stain.
As long as he makes responsible choices he's fine. If I was the one staining my fence I'd pay your estimated 12-24 bucks to protect my neighbor's property.

there is nothing wrong with staining a fence. yes there is potential for overspray. A good contractor will be ready for this. and if you have plants near the fence they should take care to protect them.
as others have said. goto HD and buy a couple tarps/plastic sheeting on a roll as a proactive method. if you don't need it and don't open the package you can return it.
Are you going to allow the contractor on your property to stain the side of the fence that faces your property?

i can see both sides of the issue. i wouldnt want to pay for the protection for something i wasn't doing. i wouldnt call the cops tho, i would talk to the contractor. the folks here talk shit about contractors but most dont want a bad rep and will be happy to charge your neighbor more for the much longer job of using a brush

There is no way you can paint/stain only one side of a fence (be it wood or chain link) without it looking like shit on the unpainted/stained side. OP here. Fence was brush stained. Looks great. Not sure the heat was the best time to have it done but not our problem.
To address the comment about looking at it, we are happy with the fence. It keeps the neighbors 3 dogs from using our yard as their toilet.

Thanks but like I posted, its done. The county gave me good advice which thankfully I didn't have to use.
The contractor used a brush. All is good. No one is giving flat tires. Sorry you had a shitty neighbor.
