This problems seems to have gotten worse over the past month or two. Please asks VDOT to adjust the timing of this light if it concerns you as well. You can contact VDOT at:

http://www.virginiadot.org/travel/citizen.asp

And include the below message:

Intersection of Chain Bridge Rd/Rt 123 and Jermantown Rd in Fairfax County Virginia (in the Oakton area).

RE: Traffic Light

The timing of this traffic light during the AM and PM rush strongly favors Rt123 over Jermantown Road despite the fact that very little traffic waits on Rt123 and traffic very frequently waits multiple cycles on Jermantown Rd.

Specifically during the AM Rush (approx 0630-0715) vehicles traveling East on Jermantown Rd often have to wait 2-3 cycles to cross Rt123. However traffic is never stopped more then 3 cars deep on Rt123 in either direction.

Specifically during the PM Rush (approx 315pm-6pm) vehicles traveling West on Jermantown Rd often have to wait 6 or more cycles to cross Rt123. Traffic on Rt123 is not back up at all during this time.

This problem seems to be able to be solved with a simple traffic signal adjustment.

Thank you.

Did nobody tell that guy he'd be interviewed for TV that day? Or did he think he was doing a spot for a radio program (the camera should have been a clue to the contrary)? Because that sweater...unforgiveable.

I was thinking the same thing. But that probably is "dressed up" for that guy.

I spoke to the traffic manager on the phone and he said he has looked into the situation and tweaked the light timing.

Anyone know if VDOT handles them all or towns can do their own light timings? I'm sure I've seen Vienna lights work the exact opposite way, late in night but before the blinking time.
