Sorry guys....not talking about 'Implants' here. For that...see 1320 Club or Camelot (for top notch). I've grown up in this area. The changes I've seen in this area are...well, they've been unimaginable. Some good, some bad. I'm thinking about leaving. No qualms, just ready to try something new. Philadelphia. What do you guys think? I know that many people who live here have moved from outside NOVA. What's you're opinion about NOVA compared to your "homeland"?

I say you should leave. I took a survey and most Northern Virginians don't like you, and the overwhelming majority think you deserve to live in an even worse shithole. I think Philadelphia fits that bill nicely.

LOL. Nice. Can't get much worse than Springfield right?

P.S.--E-A-G-L-E-S-!

Maybe you've never been out of the area, but yes, things can get a whole lot worse than Springfield, VA.

As far as Philly, I grew up about an hour from there, and I travel up there frequently to go to Eagle games and visit friends. It'd be a pretty cool place to live if you want to live in the city, there's alot of stuff to do. It has more of a blue-collar feel than here, and the general population gives you a sense of "hometown pride" that I've never really seen around here. Also, people aren't as nice, drivers are much worse than here, and you'll encounter more racist attitudes and rednecks than here, but those are just the negatives. I wouldn't mind living there, but I think the DC area is much better.

I hate Philly and everything it stands for. It is a city that has NOTHING going for it. NOTHING.

I remember a couple of years agao the city was trying to get back tourist/convention business. The Mayor and Chief of Police and others started touting how the crime rate plummeted and Philadelphia was now safe.

Well it turned out that the cops were letting many criminals and not reporting many crimes so their crime rate would drop. This was orchestrated by City Hall. Phily had the same amount of violence and crime, if not more... They just let people off the hook many times and did not report it.

And you thought Fairfax County Police Department was bad.

It is a city that has NOTHING going for it. NOTHING.

I can understand not liking the place, but that's a ridiculous comment to make. It's a big city, there's plenty of stuff going on.

I never heard that story about the cops, but I will say that in general, I do feel safer walking around the streets in DC than in Philly.

Take Steelerbabe's suggestion with a grain of salt, while Pittsburgh is a pretty cool town, alot of western PA is a rundown, culutural backwater, and is sorta depressing. I would recommend the city of Pittsburgh as a place to live though.

these are _all_ bad things. so wtf would anyone who isnt some dumbass blue collar racist redneck want to move there? clearly, the population is all idiots, nobody should move there.

I have relatives who live up in philly and they love it there. Its true that a lot of Western PA is uh redneckified though. Philly has a lot going for it. The crime rate isnt as bad as people make out. Its a major city so yes there is some crime but come on. DC had tourists recently getting mugged at night on the mall and amongst the Monuments as well. In philly even the muggers are scared of getting beat up by their own victims

Latest 2005 Crimes per 100,000 People:
Philadelphia, DC National

Murder: 25.6 35.4 6.9
Forcible Rape: 69.52 29.97 32.2
Robbery: 683.6 636.1 195.4

Aggravated
Assault: 688.4 700.1 340.1

Burglary: 744.1 648.7 814.5
Larceny Theft: 2582.6 2572.5 2734.7
Vehicle Theft: 775.3 1356.4 526.5

Pretty close, but DC has beat Phily on Murders hands down (or should I say "Hands Up!"), but they kick or fannies on Rape. But we strike back on Auto thefts!!! GO DC!!!!! But Philly's got us on Burglaries! Damn, we need to catch up. Gravis, go to DC and commit some crimes, we must beat Philadelphia!!!

Or should we send Gravis to Philadelphia?

Philly is pretty cool but there are parts that are worse than anything in Fairfax. My friends, a couple, moved down here from PHI and the chick moved back after missing home. Now she's coming back here because she's realizing how bad it is up there.
