FFX Scanner available on iPhone/iPod Touch

You are now able to listen to the scanner using your iPhone or iPod Touch device. You will need to get the "PhoneSpeex" program from the iTunes store. Once you have the program enter the url of the scanner - boris.serveirc.com at port 8767 (this is the default). That's it. You will then be able to listen once you connect.

Cool. FWIW, Phonespeex isn't a free app, they charge 5 bucks for it.

Terry, thanks for the update. I still listen to your stream on teamspeak.

Unfortunately I have a windows mobile device. I found that I can use a browser called Skyfire and stream scanner stations from radioreference.com. still not as clear as yours though

nice use of Revenge of the Nerds. //

If you think that's nerdy, you're a dumbass.
Real pros would jailbreak it and get it or an equivalent for free.

Thanks, this will be very useful when I am robbing yuppies at all the wi-fi hangouts.

I wonder how often criminals actually use scanners to elude police. It seems like they should want the radios to be encrypted.

Very true. Of course, the yuppies are already being robbed for about 6 bucks per cup of coffee at some of the trendiest wifi hotspots.

Every once in awhile a criminal gets caught with a scanner. Recently, FFX cops arrested a clan that had burglarized some dozen Asian homes. In addition to their GPS unit they also had a police scanner. The police do use encryption on a couple of their channels for special operations but, in general, the majority of their operations are in the clear. Cost is a big factor but there are also some operational issues.

Like most PDs FFX does send a lot of information to their computer systems in the car and that makes it more or less inaccessible to the general public. However, the biggest complaint the cops here have about their equipment is the unreliability of their computer systems. You always here them getting themselves logged off and then back on again because something got screwed up.
