Go ahead and rename the place. I don't care whether they keep calling it Lee or they change it. Just don't try to pretend it is a matter of right and wrong.

Naming or renaming something is about power, influence and the willingness to use it. That is just as true of those seeking to rename Lee as it was of those who originally named it Lee. It is as true of the FUCKWADS who renamed Stuart Justice as it is of the FUCKWADS who renamed National after Reagan, or who renamed Mason's law school. Saying it is about not being offensive is just kidding yourself. This is about not being offensive to you and those you care about. The School Board tried to sell that line for the first one and the Fairfax taxpayers ended up picking up the tab for over half of the cost. Beyond the very loud lunatic minority, there was very little interest in raising funds for, or contributing to, the cost of the name change. With a similar demographic makeup at Lee, the is no reason to believe that anyone other than the taxpayers once again will pick up the tab on this one too. Oh yes, Tamara Koufax, the SB Member that represents Lee, was so terrified of a cascade of name changes such as this that she did not vote for the Stuart name change last year.

First, I think that a huge majority of the students at this school will not care what it is called. They will be a lot more concerned about what is in the school, not what name is on the outside. That should be the focus of your concern, not the damn name.

Here is a radical idea! Support, or better yet, work for the passage of a school vouchers program so that black people can get their kids out of failed high schools like Lee and Mt. Vernon HS. Your kids will not have to be intimidated, your kids will get a REAL education, and probably best of all the nearly brain dead School Board will eventually get the message that they need to clean up the mess that they have created with these schools and reform school management and policies.

The glaring difference: Washington wasn’t a traitor. Lee was.

Washington was a traitor. Those who lead rebellions against their sovereigns are by definition traitors. Further like Lee Washington had sworn an oath of loyalty to the sovereign against whom he had rebelled. Like Lee, Washington was fighting in part to preserve the institution of slavery. England and Scotland had declared slavery was not permitted within Britain which made American slave owners nervous, and at the end of the Revolution Washington complained that British General Carlton was facilitating the escape of slaves when the British were evacuating New York.

There are two key differences between Washington and Lee. The first is that Washington won. The second is that most people in Northern Virginia today no longer believe Lee was fighting on their side. Back in the early Sixties that wasn't true.

CHANGE THE NAME!

The point was that if Lee HS name is changed, every street, school and government building remotely associated with slavery or the civil war WILL be changed, including the name of this fucking County!!!
