Dog Attacks Kids and is Shot to Death

Police responded to the 6300 block of Eighth Street yesterday for a dog that had attacked four children. This occurred around 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2007. When police arrived, the dog was still running loose and threatening people. Officers attempted to subdue the dog with nonlethal methods, but were unsuccessful. The dog was then shot; it died at the scene. Three children were treated for minor injuries at Inova Fairfax Hospital and released. One child was treated at the scene.

The owner of the dog, Mauricio Coca, 20, of 13154 Kidwell Field Road in Herndon, was issued three misdemeanor summonses for a dog running at large, an unlicensed animal and no rabies vaccination.

i can understand why they shot the dog but why wasnt animal control brought in at the same time as the police? just thought some of our treehuggers here wanted to know. lol!

Any dog allowed off the leash has an idiot for an owner. That person should be tared and feathered for his indifference.

Animals are as unpredictable and need to be leashed at all times when off the owners property. This is the law and it is not an unreasonable one. I do not know why some owners feel it is their right to allow the dogs to run loose.

One moron neighbor allowed her dog to run loose and it was attacking all the leashed dogs. We had asked her several times to keep her dog on a leash. She called us "bigots".

One day her dog attacked my leashed dog. My dog, normally very domicile and extremelty arthritic, was able to defend himself for the few second fight. My dog caused a $900 vet bill for the other dog. Then the idiot owner called animal control on my leashed dog claiming he was "dangerous". Stupid bitch (the owner, not the dog).

The nice lady from FFX Animal Control handled the situation very professionaly and sternly told her she was wrong on all counts.

Animal Control WAS brought in. But since there are sometimes only 2 or 3 of them working county wide it takes them a while to respond. When calls started coming in that a Pit Bull had a kids leg in its mouth dragging it down the street it was put out with the same priority as a robbery in progress. Any unit that was close tried to get there. Other calls came in that the kid had gotten away and there were a couple of kids up on top of a traffic control box and the dog was attacking them trying to pull them off of the box. Still when the officers got there and found the dog they tried to contain the dog without hurting it. It was only after those attemps failed and it went after someone else that the dog was shot.

The dog was a pit bull. That breed has the bite strength to crush human bones with ease.

Killing a dog is much more difficult than a person. Usually only a head shot will stop a dog right away. That is a very small area on a moving animal.

I wouldn't have waited for the police and would have shot the dam dog myself.If my kid was injured badly,shooting the owner would have crossed my mind.It would have made my day!

I would have cut the dog's head off if it attacked my kids. I would have saved the gun for the owner.

Too bad the tazer didn't work.

Again, a baseless assumption made to substantiate a deeply rooted disdain for local law-enforcement (e.g. "Why wasnt animal control called in").

Methinks someone needs to confirm FACTS before publishing OPINION.

Not a sermon, just a thought.

Next time I see your ugly ass getting mauled by a rapid (meant rabid) dog I'll remember not to shoot it.

Those rapid dogs are pretty dangerous. I assume you mean the dog will bite gravis rapidly.

And the scary part is that these bad owners are free to reproduce themselves and their vote counts just as much as mine.

Except for not having to start a college fund, dog owners need to be just as responcible as parents.

As a matter of fact, I recieved a FFX county public school questionair a couple of years back. It asked for the names of children in the household. I put down my dog's name and indicated that he was "home schooled". I never heard anything back from the county requiring proof.

I followed your suggestion and spent some time on dictionary.com, as well as a couple other "mature and educated" websites it appears you frequent. I also came back and re-read all of my posts. Much to your dismay, I have yet to laugh at my own stupidity.

I did however enjoy a cackling outburst when I saw this picture (is that kolledge rule notebook paper???). To your credit, I like your taste in floor-lamps. Game, Set, Match.

OT, but which Loctite is the strongest? Is it the red or the blue? I could check before I buy, but I know my dad has some in the garage and I'd like to know before I make an unnecessary trip to the store if he's got the good stuff.

The most direct answer to that question is that the red is "stronger", it takes more effort to unbind it, but it may not be the most appropriate solution for every situation, as I have found in various assembly activities.

I've got some screws that keep coming loose on my snowboard bindings. I want those little fuckers to stay put, mostly in cold weather.

Some people put a dab of nail polish on the binding's screw threads to help keep the screws in place.

Make sure you tied the screws very hard other way they will get loose too fast, and it will give you hard time or even you can have an accident.
