As anyone knows, negotiations are a two way street. If the Nationals, or any other team, don’t want him, it’s not all up to him. He’ll go where the interested parties are. Who knows who’ll be interested by the time free agency comes.

Free agency is here and now. This is Harper's "walk year" as the TV hipsters would call it. Harper's contract expires at the end of the 2018 season, and he and his agent will then be able to bargain with any of the 30 MLB clubs who will be interested in him. The Nats in the meantime can make offers to Harper in hopes of luring him into resigning with them before the off-seadon, but Scott Boras would likely rather see Harper test the open market. The Nats could also throw in the towel come July and trade a few month's worth of Harper for whatever prospects they could get back Might not sit well with an already disgruntled fan base though.

Some folks believe that the odd free agent market of this past off-season was a matter of collusion among owners -- a trial run for trying to keep a lid on bidding in 2018-19, when a lot of star players will be joining Harper in free agency. That the owners are crooks is certainly a believable theory, but it could also be that they were just trying to keep salary off the books now so as to have room to splurge this winter. we'll just have to wait and see what develops.

Harper will do fine in any case, with the same pinheads who suggested he would get $500 million to begin with being the ones to chirp and carp if he ultimately doesn't It's amazing how disgracefully dishonest some people can be. And not just in baseball of course.

Harper has awards, but his career with the Nationals has been average when you look at the big picture.

He won't break 500 HRs, and his temper tantrums are a distraction.

Who in their right mind would pay Harper almost half a billion dollars? He's hitting .224 (or 141st place in the NL). His OPS is only 23. In 22nd place is Ozzie Albies of the Braves. Never heard of him? Neither have I. He's a 21 year old, 5'8" 160lb 2nd basemen who's out-hitting Bryce.

Take the $40 million/year that you were going to spend on Bryce and go out and get 3 excellent bats and another reliever.

If there is one thing that the blocked Lerners have proven over and over again, it is their refusal to do what is necessary to address the deficiencies of this team every season so that it can win in the postseason.

If Harper wants to win in the postseason, he needs to go somewhere else. It won't happen in DC anytime soon.

You aren't bright enough to see the big picture. Four post season appearances and 0 for 4 in those appearances.

The game is different in the postseason. The 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017 teams all had deficiencies that weren't adequately addressed. The 2018 team has them too, even if the injured players come back and play to their potential.

Harper,is a cancer in the dugout.

In baseball, the 9 best players on the field does NOT win ball games, ask the Yankees.

The Nats should have curtailed Harpers' "Phenom" status and down played his celebrity and tried to nurture a team player.

But they wanted to sell #34 jerseys instead of building a winning, stable, cohesive team.

The dick factor should have been given more weight...a dick will always be a dick, it's kinda like tiger stripes.

No, son. It's YOU who is the laughing stock. So many years of binary thinking have left you believing that static classification is the same as dynamic understanding. That's unfortunate. And by the way, where do you usually sit up at Hagerstown? When did you attend your first MLB game? Did you get down to Spring Training this year? What section are your season tickets in? Will you be there for the Futures Game, HR Derby, and the All-Star Game itself? Go ahead...lie to me some more, small fry. I won't tell anyone.

Bruce's batting average this season is the result of the intentional walks he and the Nats have had to endure. Murphy's injury has affected the whole line up. Bryce is good but at this stage of his career with the Nats, his value lies in is his trade potential and what they can get for him.

I say trade him to the Diamondbacks he would be a perfect fit in Arizona.

Once Murphy is healthy again the Nats will have more options for their line up.

LOL. Now, you're pretending to be some big shot baseball buff. Unfortunately, none of that false puffery can cover up the simple fact that you didn't know the difference between a free agent and a player in a contract year?

Let's make it simple, and even that might be asking too much from you.

Can Bryce Harper sign a contract with any other MLB team today without a move by the Nationals?

True but by pitching around Harper opposing teams take his AB away and he can't do what he is paid to do. He leads the league in HRs even though he has been robbed of many of his ABs by way of intentional walk. With the HRs come the strike outs / ground outs and so on affecting both his average and his attidude. Last night he went opposite field and that's always good to see. Shows he's putting in the cage work.

> Murphy's injury has affected the whole line up.

And now Howie KendricK is down.

> Bryce is good but at this stage of his career...

This is his Age-25 season.

Trading him now the team get the biggest bang for their buck.

> I say trade him to the Diamondbacks he would be a
> perfect fit in Arizona.

What would you ask for in return? Socrates Brito?

Prospects to develop? If they don't come from the diamondbacks get them from some other team. The Nats could use a catcher although Pedro has been consistent and is doing a good job. Weiders is spotty.

Murphy, Adams and Reynolds can handle the power hitting freeing up Rendon Michael A and Trea Turner to concentrate on hitting singles/doubles and getting on base.

IT really doesn't matter what team Harper is traded to as long as the Nats can get something of equal value in return. I only used the Diamondbacks reference because of the baseball in the mouth comparison. Fact is management is going to break this team up due to salaries vs. return on the dollar and DC will be in the baseball cellar once again. They have had ample opportunity to advance in the playoffs and for some reason just cannot get to the world series let alone win it.

As much as I love Zimmerman he's getting old and the Nats need to look at that position and make the necessary adjustments that make the team better moving forward. Harper is a good ball player and is very talented. It's apparent that he is not happy here and it appears that his frustration affects his performance on the field. When he's happy he hustles when he is in one of his blue periods he doesn't. Thats bad juju for the whole squad. I just say the Nats don't need him as much as the fans think they do. Hell it would have been better if they had traded Harper and kept Span. And thank God they unloaded Werth.

I note by the way that you had no answers to any of the earlier questions. You may assume that I was not at all surprised that you would duck them as surely as any old no-account stinking coward would have.

Bullseye, I knew it as soon as I read all that crap about spring training and the futures game, no guy gives a shit about that. The Nats sure do know their market, put together a bunch of character guys. This is why I don't let my daughters play sports.

Sounds a little like Barry Bonds.

Yeah, I had already mentioned Kendrick, but thanks for following up. He's actually just a sub of course, but while Difo is a very good player, Howie's being out not for a couple of weeks but for the rest of the season puts extra pressure on vulnerable sorts such as Adrian Sanchez.

More likely that trading him in late July would bring more bang for the buck, but trading him at all makes sense only if you believe that you have no remaining shot at yet another division title.

So you don't know what the ARZ stable of prospects looks like, but you think they'd be a perfect fit anyway?

The D'Backs could offer Jeff Mathis or JR Murphy. Are you excited about either of those? Severino is a solid player whom we've been grooming for years. Wieters is a fine defensice catcher who hits well when healthy and not being over-used.

Adams and Reynolds = Lind and Heisey. They are bench bats, not regulars.

"Equal value" is based on 2 or 3 months.

Salaries are fixed for our top-tier players who are beyond arbitration. I'm not sure what you are thinking here at all.

The post-season is a crap-shoot for every team that makes it. Seeing it as anything else is nonsense-thinking.

Spare me! He was healthy last year, and has not been so far this year. It makes a difference. At age 33, he has more productive time in him.

Not what he and his wife say, but you would probably know better.

Span's value was in his defense and his speed, both of which have been fading rapidly. The Giants made a terrible play in signing him and were lucky to be able to move him on to Tampa Bay.

> And thank God they unloaded Werth.

There was no "unloading," his 7-year contract was up. He would have made sense for the Nats as an OF4/player-coach, but he wanted to pursue more regular at-bats. That was his decision to make.

What I mean is teams show a tendency to move players after either winning the world series or having a number of "getting close" seasons as the players "that got you there" start to command higher salaries and bigger extended contracts. Don't they call it "rebuilding"? I'm a fan and have never worked in Por Baseball or pro any sport for that matter so I see things through a fan's perspective so I'm sure there is plenty to be learned here on my end.

No seems you know better but next time you chat with him ask him about this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYfRRg3BLh0

Keep in mind that from a fan's perspective a lack of hustle or just plain giving up is unconscionable.

As for Werth; I think we have had this discussion before. Hope all is well with you and yours.

So, you can't answer the question? Your questions are meaningless and meant to distract. They, like you, are irrelevant. Further, the answers are not readily provable by you or anyone else.

On the other hand, the question of whether or not Bryce Harper sign a contract with any other MLB team today without a move by the Nationals is, in fact, provable.

Now, why don't you attempt to answer it.

Teams that make deep runs in the playoffs net a ton of money. Most often, they use that windfall to try to make another such run the following year.

Doug Williams and the redskins was the last time.
Then, Snyder took over.

No, sleazebag. Your question is by quite a lot too much of a worthless clown question to bother replying to. I won’t demean myself in such a way. On a separate note, the guy with whom Harper had been tied in HR going into last night was —— Ozzie Albies.
