It was on Gunston Road at the intersection with route 1. A gas station sits there now.

No, I think it was a little further down, between Gunston Rd and Giles Run, on the left side as you are headed south.

You can see the remnants of an old sign, basically two H's is a frame.

I've been told that was it.

It is seriously funny to read some of these posts. Cry babies who were afraid to go in or called it a dump. I worked there and I made the employees scrub the kitchen every night and I can only wish that some restaurants were as clean.
I think it had charm.
I saw fights and got in a few myself but trust me, we all laughed at the newbies who thought they were better than we were. My income will embarrass most of you and so will my college degrees.

Earl had a great sense of humor and to have silly t shirts hanging from the walls was funny to him, he knew he was no designer and it made people talk. Like how Paris Hilton made a spectral of herself, if people are talking you are making money, and trust me, Earl Dixon made plenty back in the days of Hillbilly Heaven.
We sat so many nights after the bar closed and laughed at most people and probably one or two of you... :)
We knew what we were doing and I know for a fact that most of the people who came in there thought they were tough and would show us a thing or two. So who was the Redneck, the ones who thought they could beat us all up and out drink someone, or the ones who just sat back and laughed at the end of the night? LOL Oh those were the days, watching people get their asses kicked out and onto the parking lot :D
I am sure that right about now, many of you are sitting with your nasty beer bellies, smoking some generic brand of nasty cigarettes, with little to no money in the bank, still whining to your toothless fat ass wife about your life being unfulfilled while I enjoy my life with an amazing and wealthy family , reminiscing about Hillbilly Heaven :D I hope you have enjoyed this as much as I have.
The good 'ol days! Have a absolutely wonderful day.
Just a little FYI. If you were male and were in HIllbilly Heaven with a woman, most women were asked to put your name and penis size and a few details about your skill (as it were) , i.e. Name 5" and he makes growling noises when he has sex....on a card and drop it in a box and all the female employees would read them and laugh at you. If you know a girl who worked there during 1980 and 1985 (before the box was discontinued) she can tell you your penis size and if you had any cred in bed :D Now that's gotta suck!

Never went to Hillbilly Heaven, but my Dad and Uncle owned Greenleaf Restaurant/Christophers/Cow Palace. I grew up off route 1 and spent a lot of time at the restaurant, during the day only; heard it got rough at night. Great memories from 1970's -80's. Big John and Buster were 2 of the bouncers...many fights...great bands...KIX 106.

I found this thread kinda by accident while reminiscing on Google. I played a couple of times at HH with The Blue Ridge Country Road Show (formerly the Blue Ridge Quartet) in the early eighties. I remember the folks there to be really friendly and everyone treated us well. We met all the family and heard the Dixon Line Band perform. We later played a show in Burtonsville, MD with them on the bill. Is Sherry still singing?

Went to Hillbilly Heaven all the time. Best club if you lived on Rt. 1 back in the day. Place was always crowded. The Ft. Belvoir enlisted men spent their entire pay there (many imported southern rednecks). Ladies never paid for a drink. Old Earl made more money from US Military boys than the Pentagon budget. The time Dolly Parton's brother(maybe Randy?)played with the band the crowd filled the building + the parking lot.

Was in the Groveton HS band with Donna Dixon my freshman year. This one time at band camp, I decided to take a solo swim in a nasty, algae filled unmaintained swimming pool that was there. Upon leaving the water I began walking to my cabin when SUDDENLY my nuts began to itch REALLY BADLY. Perhaps it was the algae. Being alone on a wooded path, I did not hesitate to thrust my hand into my cutoffs and give my nuts a fierce scratching. While I was so occupied, I heard laughter, looked up and there was DONNA DIXON and another girl in the band standing there giggling at me. My brush with fame I guess.

Yeah, the dive trailers are there across from Rosie's Arco (Sunoco) and Seven Eleven on the other side of RT 1 at the intersection with Frye Rd.

You used to be able to buy Propane somewhere near there, maybe the Propane place took the place of the Green Leaf.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s and don't remember any Green Leaf

I remember Little Detriot Garage and Doc Johnson's though - in Engleside.

The Moose Lodge in Lorton is still there.

I remember driving by Hillbilly Heaven many times in the early '80s.

The Junkyard once owned by Mr. Casassas (a neighbor of ours in Woodlawn Manor) is still there. Mr. Casassas died in a plane crash in the early '80s.

The Junkyard is on the right as you head towards the rt1 and I95 entrances near Woodbridge, as you exit Lorton.

The Belvoir Bar and Grille (dive) was just demolished recently as they are widening Rt 1. It became a strip place in later years.

Dang Dude! Take it Easy! I get sick of hearing about the Pig, but people Loved that place! Hillybilly Heaven has it was called had a Great House Band and Earl Dixon owned it. Most everyone knows it but he was the Father of Donna Dixon who went on to mideocre fame with an unheard of Tom Hanks and that little Peter guy from Newhart later, when her show was called "Bosom Buddies". She ended up marrying Dan Achroyd, and Earl's shifty son ran a used car lot on Rt. 1 across from McDonald's that featured " The Blues Brothers " Car on their lot. (There's a Walgreen's there now). We bought a Gorgeous Fluorescent Lime Green 1975 Plymouth Sebring Plus from him for about $1500.00 back in 1986. We went to make one of our last payments there one week, and the entire car lot was GONE! Emptied! In a week! No one could tell me where they were. Very strange. Earl would rent rooms to Construction workers above his bar for about $50.00 a week. It got noisy at night until 2 am. Debbie Dixon, Donna's sister, had a little bit of fame with a Pepsi Commercial she did in the '80's. Hillbilly Heaven was a blast although some really rough fight's broke out there on the weekend's. The place was always packed wall to wall with people. I loved it! Great rowdy bar with decent music and ice cold beer with all your friends! THAT'S why people ask about it! Just like the Pig.
I want to know if anyone remembers any of Bars with dancers in them. Like "Ad-Lib" Restaurant off of Rt. 1 in the Old My. Vernon Sguare Shopping Center, late 1970's, & "One South" at the bottom of Rt. 1 in Alexandria by VA. Lodge and the "1420 Club", (that might've been in Springfield next to " Dauphine's "), because my friend said it was 1320 Club or something. Same Guy owned One South and all of them in Springfield. Was his name Terry? I worked there back in 1976 - 78, & then in '79 - 1980. We had "Fort Belvoir Bar & Grill" down there too.

Wow! I went to HS with a Susie Phelps. I was also stationed at Ft. Belvoir in 1980. But The Grill wasn't that bad. Very quiet. Good for pool practice Because the Bar in the Shopping Center next Door that was often called The Grill had Dancer's back in 1980 & 81 until those Korean's bought it out. They had that nasty XXX Book Store over there. But the club had live Bands on the weekend's that started at 9 pm. And Best Pool Player's around. That was my final hang out before getting stationed in Germany. I didn't come back until 2005. And everything was Gone except those Ft. Belvoir Apts! My son broke a double-paned thermal sealed glass window with his tiny plastic hammer that went to his little tool set with those little plastic screws when he was 15 months old, and I was surprised it broke!
VA.Lodge is still there. And McDonald's. But then 2 yrs ago they tore it down! It was a LANDMARK! And moved it right next door! Nim-Nuts!

We rotated weekends with area bands, as well as touring national groups like Johnny Paycheck and David Allen Coe, etc...rednecks for sure, but we never saw a fight or a killing! Earl treated us well. My only regret is, we never played there when Donna, Dan Akroyd,or his best friend, Dom DeLuise were visiting!.....lots of fun memories at HH!...Bill

Where was Virginia Lodge?

Down by Belvoir Grille?

The little area that Belvoir Grille was, right below the Railroad track crossing, is now gone, due to the widening of Rt 1 there, as well as the destruction of the RR bridge...

Hello, I had a cousin who worked there back around 1990, Chuck Fullen, do you remember him by any chance? I remember going to visit him some time around 1990-1991, and him taking us to Hillbilly Haven, and we loved seeing the band that was playing that night, and the people were very sweet to myself, my mother, and my aunt, who was Chuck's mother.

I feel sorry for today's young people.
The soulless manufactured places to drink today are so sad in comparison to the places from the 60s -70s.

As a soldier going through surveyor training at Ft. Belvior in early 1983, HH was my favorite place. I really don't recall any violence. They always had really good band there (I still can hear them doing "Brick House" by the Commodores). There we're a lot of pictures of Dan Ackroyd on the walls. From the other posts, now, I know why! The outside was had a lot of junk lying around... I always thought that it was to give a "faux dive" affect. Inside wasn't particularly nice, but I've seen worse! They did have a "Moon Patrol" video game that ate a lot of my quarters!

But, best of all, women also went to the place. They seemed to be relatively good looking, intelligent, didn't smell like farm animals and, as I recall, had a significant percentage of their teeth.

At the time, the place wasn't "off-limits" for student-soldiers (many places were), so, I'm guessing that the violence came after I graduated and moved on. I'm sorry to hear that they gained the reputation of a dangerous place. I always felt comfortable in there. If there was trouble to be found, at the time, a group of 18-year-old (yes, it was legal age then!) Budweiser guzzling soldier like my friends and I were would've certainly found it!

I was feeling nostalgic about the place and found this board. I'm sorry to hear that they ultimately gained a reputation as a dangerous place. I had a lot of enjoyable times there during my 4 months at Ft. Belvior.

There was a bar just south of the greenleaf, same side of the road, small, near Dorans garage. And 2 bars right at Rt 1 and Fort Belvoir @ backlick rd. Anyone remember the names if these places?

One was Thomas's restaurant.

The other was the Belvoir grill. That was the place where you sweep up the eyeballs after closing.

Yes indeed, The Heaven, Hillbilly Heaven. I was permanent party at Fort Belvoir in the early 1980s (81 to 85); but usually TDY elsewhere in one or two places about 8 months of any given year. In between TDY stints Hillbilly Heaven was one of the occasionally visited establishments, but not frequently.

More frequently visited places included: The Belvoir Grill, Thomas' Lounge (Thomases), The Hideaway, and of course, Skinifatz, Lazy Susan, and various places in Old Town and Georgetown. Skinifatz, Old Town and Georgetown were the most frequently visited on weekends, at least by me and a couple compadres. I had several patches, crests and appurtenances on the memorabilia wall behind the bar at Belvoir Grill from units or detachments with whom I was affiliated or places visited. The Grill and Thomases were just a stones throw from the billet and an easy walk to chill for an evening during the week.

I always received a very warm welcome at Hillbilly Heaven and never had a problem, but I only visited the place a few times a year at most.

How can you talk about places like Skinny Fats/ Lazy Susan and not mention the notorious Silver Fox (Crotch) in Hoodbridge?

That area from Pohick to Pw county is a shithole today.
Even mason neck is getting crime from the niggers coming from dale city to Pohick bay’s PIRATES COVE swimming pool!
It’s gotten so infested with niggers and illegals at the pool, that the annual end-of-the-year “dog swimming” event had to be canceled!

Even dogs don’t want to get into the same water as these niggers!

In reality it's the white people who are filthy and disgusting.

My biological father. Larry DeMarcus, a.k.a. Larry Black, sang in Roy Dixon's band at Hillbilly Haven in the early to mid 80's. I met Sherrie and she took me there to show me the business when I was 16 years old or so. She drove a white corvette with "Sherrie" written in red on the sides in cursive above the door handles. She was very kind and beautiful. The sound system in that place was amazing. I never met Donna or Dan but my brother, Randy DeMarcus, did when they visited they were there to visit their family. That was over 35 years ago so my memories are pretty vague. I do know the band Larry played in was quite amazing and there was always a full house.

I used to go to Hillbilly Heaven in the early 70's with my uncle and aunt. We lived in Woodbridge. I dated Marcel "Twitty" Jenkins a few times and went out with him and Roy Dixon and wife to eat Chinese once. Marcel was Conway's nephew (father was Conway's brother). Such a redneck place, but I never saw any fighting. Maybe I was just naive didn't notice.
