Is anybody voting in the special election in Jan.

I noticed the David Marsden signs up all over the place for the special election in Jan. I haven't seen signs for his Republican opponent but I'm sure they will soon start to clutter the road once the snow has cleared.

The only thing I know about Marsden is that he voted for the bill that was eventually repealed that dished out heavy fines for traffic violations.

Is his opponent a real scumrat or is this a don't give a shit election?

Steve Hunt is great. He was the only school board member who gave a crap about the parents and the kids. He always responded. I wish I could vote for him and wish he could represent me in Richmond.

Marsden doesn't even live in the district. He's pretending to rent a room from a friend so he can claim an address in the district. What a jerk.

This is a very important election. STATE SENTAOR

Marsden is a moderate. Yes, he voted for Dave Albo's heavy trafffic fines. Many did. I didn't agree with him on that issue and clearly many other constituents didn't either because it was repealed. That was ONE issue. My guess is Hunt would have voted for it as well if he was in the position to do so. Dave Marsden has a track record, and a very good one, as a delegate. He responds to every constituent, always has. Hunt on the other hand, only responds to those who agree with him. The only track record he can site is his school board record. Need I say more? SCHOOL BOARD. Hunt was the lone vote to break up long established (35 years) neighborhood when he was on the school board in favor of newer, wealthy republican neighborhoods. Hunt is an ultra conservative, right wing partisan. Hunt even refused to shake hands with women who opposed his views after a contentious and costly boundary study. Not the kind of person or respresentation Northern Virginians need in Republican run Richmond. We have enough good 'ol boys in Richmond already. Hunt is playing up his anti-tax position. Plays well in this econonmy to those who can't buy a free thought. Anti-tax? Really? In Northern Virgina? Our schools, therefore our property value, have already suffered millions in budget cuts and he claims that he and he alone, is going to cut your taxes.

Dave Marsden is THE moderate. He has a track record of being bipartisan. Look at his district. He won handily in a heavy republican district because forward thinking republicans voted for him. The alternative is too extreme.

Oh yeah, Masden did have to rent a room. So did his republican predecessor, Jim Dillard, who endorsed him by the way, when the boundaries were redrawn and Dillard was "drawn" right out of his own district. Not uncommon. Doesn't mean he doesn't know he issues down the street.

Steve Hunt was exceptionally popular with parents and teachers ranging from liberal Democrats to conservative Republicans who followed School Board issues. Steve Hunt listened to parents, students and teachers and spent a lot of time researching the pros and cons of issues. He was not popular with central staff or School Board members who just wanted to rubber stamp staff's proposals, because he would ask questions that staff would prefer not to answer.

I didn't agree with all of Steve Hunt's views when he was on the School Board, and I wouldn't agree with him on every issue likely to be considered by the State Senate. However, I would still vote for him if I lived in his district, because of his extraordinary integrity and laudable approach to analyzing issues.

During his time on the FCPS school board, Mr. Hunt was usually the lone voice asking hard questions to the "staff". He always spoke with the vistors at the board meetings prior to the start of the meetings. I've always found Mr. Hunt knowledgeable to communtity issues and open to the opinions of his constituents. I wish that I could vote in this elections.
