The only reason most people choose to live in NOVA is because there are plenty of jobs and some of them pay VERY well. As soon as they can retire 90% + of them leave this God forsaken shit hole and move to some where better.

NoVa is actually one of the best places to live in the nation, and therefore in the world. It's a laid back and low-tax area in comparison to New York or Boston. It has the ideal temperate, four-season climate with a low risk of any "natural disaster" occurring. It has a charming countryside of mature trees along innumerable creeks and streams that supports much kindly wildlife, but not so many cockroaches, alligators, or Burmese pythons. Surfing and skiing are each within easy reach in season.

The local population is highly educated and concerned with health, fitness, and the environment. Parks and recreational facilities abound. There is a top-tier medical community, along with upscale shopping, dining, and cultural amenities out the wazoo. There are teams in all major pro sports leagues, plus plenty of golf, tennis, and swimming (which is a significant scholastic sport here), as well as other athletic opportunities from kayaking to kickball. We also have a solid public transit network, including both Metro and hundreds of miles of dedicated hike-and-bike trails. Then there's that quick and easy Amtrak connection to Baltimore, Philadelphia, and NYC.

Basically, we have it all here. The only question is whether people can afford to shun a dull and uneventful life in the boondocks in order to live here instead.

My family is from the Carolinas. I spent my summers there growing up. Far more niggers there than you find in Fairfax, and they were overrun with spic laborers twenty years ago. Went back not long ago. No jobs. No cultural life. Church only has half the parishioners it used to. Doctors are Indian as are the pharmacists.

Uh, you left out the part about the horrible traffic gridlock, terribly expensive housing, MS 13, high property taxes, overly restrictive rules and regulations and the illegal aliens,Niggers and towel heads that fester like cock roaches every where you go...

You aren't very bright, Edward. Average commute times in NoVa are little different from the 30 minutes or so that prevails in other Metro areas. Even the very worst places around here (such as Aquia) average 45 minutes or less. Those times are for the rush-hour peak of course. At other hours, travel here tends to be a breeze. We have plenty of very good roads.

Housing costs could well be beyond your feeble means, but that would only be if you were a total loser. The facts are that real estate prices and taxes here are modest as against comparable areas.

MS-13 is meanwhile a total non-factor at all here. It's an asswipe myth propagated by a handful of deplorable and potentially violent skinhead extremists. Those are the ones we need to take down and put behind bars.

I agree with the above poster about most things, but not MS13. Two bodies were found in the woods near my house at Holmes Run right when I was trying to sell it. The problem is very real.

You're full of shit. DC area is consistently in the top clusterfuck traffic areas in the country no matter how measured. Aquia is about 40 miles from DC. There's no fucking way that anyone averages 45 minutes at rush hour peak. Try doubling that maybe.

Standard BS fucktard attempt to obscure using 'comparable areas.' NoVA housing prices are among the highest in the country.

Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf, the Big Bad Wolf, the Big Bad Wolf.

Go hide under the bed, losers. You are as likely to be abducted by aliens as hassled by MS-13. Try to realize that all Hispanics are not illegal, and that virtually none are associated with MS-13. Watch out for your shadow thoughh. He might actually be dangerous.

It's not much if any hotter there than here in the Summer. In fact, it's often hotter here than there on any given day. You just have less of a colder season and longer time when you can do things outside. About 5 months out of the year here the weather is too fucking cold to do much of anything.

The summers here get hotter than FL, just dont last as long. Probably the only redeeming factor for me here is that theres 4 seasons, but you cxn get that many other places. Came here for a job that pays well and found one but it all goes to expensive housing and defeats the purpose. I wont list all the things I hate about it here, take too long. Basically it doesnt feel like a homey place. Its a congested shithole, diversified with miserable ppl that want you to be more miserable than them. And Ive heard it many times from locals since I moved here how much they hate it here. I was kind of shocked ppl asking me why I came here, should just get out now. Never moved somewhere and had the natives tell me how much it sucked.

Grew up in Fairfax County around McLean in the 80s and 90s. Went to the Elementary, Middle, and High School here. Spent the college years elsewhere, and then moved back, because well, the economy was crap elsewhere, but strong here. That, and it has been nice having family around.

Great if you have a family and can afford it. Generally good schools (albeit their are some coveted pyramids (Langley, McLean, Woodson, etc..). Lots of parks and trails. Quick access to DC for baseball games and downtown events. Within an hours drive to Apple picking and camping out West. Lots of good local eats if you know where to look.

Has it gotten worse in recent decades? I can't really judge because I was in the McLean bubble. That area is still very fancy and price prohibitive for lots of home buyers. Same is true for Great Falls and to a lesser extent Vienna.

I think the Baileys' Crossroads area is better than it was in the 1990s. Lots of new construction as you get closer to 395. Getting the bubble-gum gang-magnet Skyline Mall out of there helped. Then you have a completely re-invented Merrifield area, in the form of the Mosaic Center. Fairfax City also continues to climb, at least its downtown area.

Can't vouch for Route 1; don't live anywhere near there. I stay outta Springfield.

Somebody's dealing with a touch of paranoia this morning. Is it worse today than usual, or are things always this bad for you? Meanwhile and as you likely wouldn't know, "outside the Beltway" back in the day was seen as a wild, frontier sort of drawling badlands. Vienna was on the scary side while Manassas was just plain out of bounds.

Have you noticed that despite you posting under multiple names, you're still the only one defending it? lol

I've likely been around here longer than you. It used to be a nice medium-sized area with the benefits of a larger place due to the federal government presence and without the drawbacks of a place based around some supporting industrial base, a declining older central city, etc. The population was primarily ex-military and government workers raising their families. Now it's an overcrowded, overpriced clusterfuck.

The cost of living here is actually low in comparison to other major MSA's, so if you can't afford it here, you're basically out of luck everywhere.

Every top tier metro area is going to be expensive, shocker. If you can't afford tier 1 areas, NY, DC, LA, etc you have tier 2 cities like Denver, Jacksonville, Dallas and so on.

If can't afford those its down a noch to a tier 3 like Richmond or Baltimore.

Fed and other data sources confirm that the cost of living Here is lower than in comparable MSA’s. Things like taxes, insurance, and gas prices tend to help us out. Whiners of course don’t depend on data. They just whine ignorantly on.

I can’t wait to leave. The County has been taken over by illegal aliens, it is amazing how much it is costing to educate the aliens. Almost all are on free meals thru the school system too. The Board doesn’t even want to listen to opposing views. I am anxious to leave.

Face it, assfuck, you don't remotely undertand what the fuck you are talking about. The cost of living here is moderate in comparison to similar areas elsewhere. This is one part of reasons why the area is so attractive in comparison to those other areas.

Now please post yet another bit of remarkably ignorant stupid shit.

Thanks. That was more ignorant bullshit alright.

What you need of course is data of much finer granularity, but the record has so far shown that you don't even know the meaning of the word. Briefly put, you would need to identify areas comparable to this one in various other MSAs. Then you would need to find, compile, compare, and interpret those data. I predict that you will not be able to accomplish this task over the remaining course of your lifetime.

All you demonstrate here is your level of ignorance, something already recognized as being quite advanced. If you want to redeem yourself somehow, go get data for the three thousand or so counties and county-equivalents in this country, classify them by relationships to neighboring and nearby such areas, find the ones that are most similar to ours here, then compare them. Easy, peasy.

Not necessary other than for you trying to bullshit your way out of being obviously full of shit.

Want to get more granular? No problem! The composite for the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV MSA is 146.1. For Fairfax County it's even worse at 158.60.

That's not the proper methodology, you relentless moron. Your stand alone data are like trying to define a straight line from a single point. You just plain suck at this, which explains the extremely low level of your posting.

Here meanwhile are the facts: The cost of living in this area is moderate in comparison to similar areas elsewhere. This is one part of why the area is so attractive to people young and old in comparison to those other areas. Another part of course is the huge array of high quality amenities that those low costs provide here.

Bullshit. Nobody's buying your dumb attempt to try to do some qualification around "similar" and "comparable" based on criteria that you deem worthy and pull out of your butt.

This is rather simple. COL is high here primarily because housing costs (the largest component within) are very high. As they are elsewhere among the most expensive areas of the country. In fact, it would be easier to list the few areas which are more expensive like San Francisco/Silicon Valley, Seattle around the tech HQs, Manhattan and related suburban areas, HI where land is very limited and the price of goods is high, and then what are scattered smaller enclaves of wealth.

And, once again, you can't put up any data that says otherwise.

Soon, Fairfax will just be Southern Montgomery County and the few remaining tax payers will be getting raped (physically by MS13 and monetarily by the BOS Gestapo Nazis). Happily, it will be witless fucktards like the poster above who will be left here.

True or not, kinda lame you have to use San Francisco and NYC to compare the COL. What makes Fairfax COL worse to me is its built on do nothing govt employees that take our money and pretend to provide a service. San Fran and NYC are built on free enterprise and innovation. Its why a lot of ppl in Fairfax are Aholes, theres nothing here except comparing yourself to someone else who might be more miserable than you.

Is it odd that NOVA reminds me of Florida? There are even some retirees here. Lots of military. Same kind of people- it's rare to meet a native, much like Florida. It's the northern edge of the sunbelt. Lots of subdivisions every place. Not much culture. Everyone seems miserable. Other than getting 4 seasons, NOVA and most of FL seem the same culturally and everything else. Some times NOVA also reminds me of Orange County, CA, maybe even less liberal, though.
