People just don't give a shit about anyone (in the snow)

As I drove home today (from DC to NOVA), I saw a lot of cars and trucks getting stuck in the snow. For every car/truck that was stuck, there were about 25 cars/trucks that would stop, take a look, and then continue driving past them. I simply could not believe the lack of sympathy.

I must have gotten out of my car at least 6 times to help push someone out - often before they even got out of their cars to see who it was. Each time, after 30 seconds of pushing, they were off, hand waving, and I was back in my car moving along.

To top it off, there were dozens of folks walking in the MIDDLE of the streets, some carrying shovels, and still, I did not see a single person try to help someone who had gotten stuck.

What is the problem? Is it that no one trusts anyone (fear of being robbed, etc)?

why do you walk down the middle of the street? I realize that it is hard to walk on the sidewalk in deep snow but I cannot stop very fast for your dumbass trotting down the road

In most cases, no matter what the circumstances, you can pretty much rely on the common douche bag to do the wrong thing. This is especially true when it comes to driving. Fucking around in the passing lane, rubbernecking, not using signals and yes, no courtesy or helping out somebody stuck.

They stopped, looked and once they figured out it wasn't a hottie, moved on.

I actually stopped at least 7 times to help people. I didn't have proper gloves and my hands were freezing. At least 2 of the people I helped said it was their first time driving in snow.

That's probably because they are fresh out of the back of the van that smuggled them into the country. They are probably used to riding donkeys in their village or wherever the hell they are from.

I would pat you on the back for your service, Novaguy, but you do a very good job of that yourself. I would have stopped myself, but I'm too much of a pmpous ass to think about anyone else but myself.

Stop double dipping!

The reason none of the people helped is because they were to busy making money shoveling peoples houses that will pay them for thier services and not expect shit to be done on good samarian basis. What happens if the non driving fuckwad going to fast were to plow into your son or daughter. Betchya you wouldn't be wondering why people weren't digging that asshole out of the ditch, because you'd be to busy digging your child out of that same ditch.

I remember one time I almost got buried in a street-side pile of snow eight feet deep. I started sinking, and had to half-jump and roll off of it into the street to avoid being lost until Springtime lol. I for one take care to not walk in the streets, but sometimes it can't be helped. Even then, I still walk as close to the curb as possible, and I keep an extra vigilant look-out for cars.

One of my friends drove through the snow two years ago, and he kept complaining that his car wasn't working properly. He said that the brakes kept "grinding", and not working. I told him to drive the car up the street with me in the passenger seat, and to brake a few times. It only took once for me to figure it out, this guy was slamming his brakes as if it was still dry pavement which he was driving upon. I had to show him how to drive in the snow correctly (Now he's one less potential ditch dweller).

I have fun taking out the FWD car in the snow and drifting, especially when you have banks of snow on either side. I have the 4WD SUV for the big storms like today though.

I saw two people stuck throughout the course of yesterday. I helped one but not the other. Why? Because the first person was stuck when I came across them around noon. The second person flew by me (in a residential street) at about 40 mph at about 3pm. As I continued my walk and came over the crest of the hill, that dipshit and his Nissan Armada were in a snowbank - and he was DEEP. I took one look at that dude as I walked by and just shook my head. Fuck him.
