Burger King was bulldozed quite a while ago to make room for more faceless, soulless, high-rise stuff.

The FFX county board keeps approving all these skyscrapers with no road or infrastructure improvements. The county is going to be completely gridlocked soon.

My question is who is payoff all the board members? What they are doing is criminal. Especially the county zoning board!!!

Our county really handles the zoning in Falls Church City?

Most building engineers, inspectors, architects and similar professionals define a high-rise as a building that is at least 75 feet or about 7 stories.

The Kensington, which replaced the Burger King, is only 5 stories. I suppose it could be considered a mid-rise, but most would consider it a low-rise. As for soulless, I suppose that is in the eye of the beholder, but I never considered a BK to be an architectural masterpiece.

Maybe. However, they added nearly 40 acres of prime real estate to the city within the last five years. Various other parcels could be added to that in the coming years.

They should never have given away South Falls Church or East Falls Church. Hardly room these days to put up a decent chicken coop.

LOL! A whopping 38.4 acres, 36.0 of which were already owned by the City while being used as the site for George Mason High School and Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School. The remaining 2.4 acres of "prime real estate" were not a single parcel, being instead bits and pieces near the intersection of Shreve and Gordon Roads.

Is 38.4 acres not nearly 40 acres?

Is real estate adjacent to Metro station not considered prime real estate?

The aforementioned property was not owned by the city as you erroneously claim. Rather, it was leased by the city from Fairfax County. There is a difference between leasing and owning. Do you need that explained to you?

Thank you for proving my point.

You versus Patch...

[December 18, 2013] The boundary adjustment will bring an additional 38.4 acres into the City limits, although the majority of that land is already primarily owned by the City. The largest parcel includes the 36 acres on which City's George Mason High School and Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School sit. Additional parcels totaling 2.4 acres near Gordon and Shreve Rds. are also included.

Patch vs. Facts.

Here's what one of the relevant parties states:

The site in consideration is referred to as the “School-Related Parcels” in the 2013 boundary adjustment agreement between the City of Falls Church and Fairfax County titled, “Voluntary Boundary Adjustment Agreement By and Between the City of Falls Church, Virginia, and Fairfax County, Virginia” adopted by Falls Church City Council resolution TR13-13 on April 22, 2013 and approved by voter referendum on November 5, 2013. On December 13, 2013 a Special Court appointed by the Virginia Supreme Court approved the voluntary boundary adjustment agreement that brought 38.4 acres from the jurisdiction of Fairfax County into the jurisdiction of the City of Falls Church.

And of those 34.8 acres, 24.8 were at the time owned by the FCC school board and 10.0 acres were owned by the the teeny tiny little city itself, one that has nowhere to grow but up.

An ownership with limited rights to develop property aka a 99 year lease for school purposes only.

You asked when in the last five years the city's boundaries were modified. You got the correct answer.

Sorry you didn't like the answer. Your attempt to play with semantics is making you look foolish.

You were clearly unaware of the facts. You tried to play a game of one-upsmanship and you lost due to your lack of knowledge. Accept it and move on.

There was a nearly 40 acre change. That was all that was claimed. That's what occurred. I suggest you learn to live with that fact.

I suggest you go fuck yourself, you dishonest douchebag. There was no material change in 2014. Exactly no PRIME REAL ESTATE became available for development. You omitted from your feeble post the fact that the city and its subdivisions already owned the bulk of the properties in question, and there were no plans at all in place to "develop" a site that had already been developed in 2005 to include the high school and middle school. You're just one sorry ass shill for one sorry-ass little village.

Actually, a good portion of that real estate became available for development.

It’s been noted by the city and outside entities.

https://www.fallschurchva.gov/1770/Campus-Project-Planning-for-Economic-Dev

https://nvar.com/realtors/news/re-view-magazine/article/may-jun-2015/2015-05-06-commercial-real-estate-falls-church-land-swap

In any event, your going outside the bounds of the original question and response.

To bring you back on course, you asked when in the last five year were the city's boundaries modified.

That question was answered with accurate information.

Your subsequent tangent to deflect from your mistake was equally unsuccessful. The land is being prepared for redevelopment and it is prime real estate adjacent to a Metro.

LOL! I guess there’s no way to fix your level of stupid. Too bad for you that people with half a brain can see that in January of 2015, the city added 40 acres and its boundaries changed.

(Map created July 29, 2015)

Did you not read the linked information or did you just not understand it?

The "kit and kaboodle" as you put it was rendered worthless by the courts as the city was prohibited from taking a profit from the non-city residents. Without that ability, running a public utility became a pointless nuisance for the city.

The city got $40M in cash and the right to sell and develop 10 acres of prime real estate next to an already thriving Metro station. It's certainly not the zero sum game you make it out to be b

Add in the fact that city residents got the same quality water at a lower price, and it's a win, win, win for the city, the residents and Fairfax water.

Compare that to Fairfax City that paid $20 million to essentially get absorbed by Fairfax Water.

http://www.virginiaplaces.org/watersheds/fairfaxwater.html

The Town of Vienna didn't fare much better.

No need to thank me for the recent history lesson, I'm fascinated by these little twists and turns and the machinations of our local governments that lead us to where we are today.

Done right, the redevelopment around the West Falls Church station could be as big a deal as the redevelopment of the Wilson/Clarendon Blvd corridor, or at least as big a deal as the development around one of the Orange Line stations. Of course, this statement omits any comment on whether Falls Church City has the skills, imagination, or ability to actually do the redevelopment and get a quality, sustainable neighborhood around the WFC station at the end of the process. The Broad Street experience does not bode well. Falls Church City is about to choke on its own condo/apartment buildings, but even that could come out well. Some more attention to the businesses at street level could turn things around.

Fairfax Water took everything from Falls Church except their accrued debt and pension liabilities. Lost in the deal were the surpluses long collected from areas outside the city that were illegally transferred to their general fund. The ultimate sales price was millions less than the minimum that the city had estimated in 2012.

Did they get $40 million an almost 40 acres of land, 10 of which they can develop or sell to developers?

Hey, rick, hurting Goose Creek Reservoir was a bizarre attempt to avoid paying the sensible rates for water from the money Potowmack from adjacent jurisdictions.

It was a show.

Hurting donkey dicks in Fairfax built a 22-mile long money metal pipeline over 60 years ago to avoid doing the sensible thing, donk.

They were cised from all the water they got from Goose Creek Reservoir and the Beaverdam Reservoir built years later.

Today, the hurting Loudon County, home of our silly Lurch Papa, the Mayor of Loudon County, has access to the water, but Beaverdam Reservoir is empty to clean it out for more fun and more frills, to quote The Don and Mike Defunct Show.

The money metal 22-mile-long pipeline was left to rust.

The consensus among area historians (other than biased FCC lapdogs, of course) is that Falls Church badly lost the Water Wars to Fairfax County. It is so clear that the lapdogs actually know this as well, which is why they resort to touting the pending miracle of their magical ten acres when none of their past such opportunities has ever amounted to much. This is their last straw, but it's likely enough to be just another short one for them.

Getting paid $40 million dollars and given 10 acres of prime real estate is not losing. Well, some bozo moron might consider it losing, but most thinking folks do not.

Ask the people of Fairfax City who paid to be taken over by Fairfax Water.

All you have to do is see how you’ve cowardly refused to answer any questions or address the facts in front of you. Until you do, it is easy to summarily dismiss your nonsense. It’s no surprise to see others write you off as a the obvious troll you are.

The only bias that exists is the bias possessed by those who ignore facts and refuse to answer questions. If Jesus can forgive cowardly blowhards, so can I. I forgive you despite the fact that you’ll never seek repentance or forgiveness for your ignorance.

What was the origin of you bias? A speeding ticket 20 years ago from a Volvo cop car that you just paid off? Your inability to come close to affording a home in Falls Church? The fact that you have to get in your car to do just about everything?

No need to answer, it’s obvious you’re incapable of speaking the truth. Here’s to hoping the grapes won’t be so sour at your Easter meal.

Cheers!

Can you name the area historians you speak of?

The reason I ask is that I'm a bit of a local history buff. I was a longtime member of the Historical Society of Fairfax County as well as a few other local groups. I was close with the late Nan Nerherton. While Nan passed before this event, I've maintained numerous relationships with many amateur historians in the area and I've never heard this perspective presented.

From one local history buff to another, thanks!

LOL. You're just another uninformed sock-puppet. FCC lost it all in the end -- cash, real property, major revenue sources. They got millions of dollars less than what their own experts estimated and got effective control of a whole ten acres. The Mosaic District alone is more than thirty acres. No need for the personal insults. All researchers cone up short every once in a while. That's why we amateurs enjoy a collaborative and collegial relationship.

If you're speaking of the virginiaplaces.org website, it doesn't draw the same conclusions you do. In fact, I've known Crarlie, the creator of that website, for over a decade. Like me, he started dabbling in local history as a hobby. However, he took his studies to the next level. That being said, I don't think I've ever heard him reach the same conclusions as you.

What other local historians do you suggest?

Thanks in advance.

You're not even a good amateur sock-puppet. FCC lost everywhere it went. Lost their capital investment, lost their service area, lost their customer base, lost their revenue base. That's a serious setback. Even a blind squirrel would have found that nut. How did you manage to miss it?

The courts certainly dealt the city and its water system a blow. However, it appears they were able to turn a nothing into a something by unloading the system while other jurisdictions were not able to do so.

In any event, you failed to name any of the area historians who you claim reached a consensus on the matter. Returning to that question, can you please provide the names of area historians you claim reached a consensus on that matter?

It’s now been asked of you a couple of different times, but you’ve neglected to provide an answer. Is there a particular reason you’ve failed to provide the answer?

How about instead of regurgitating your previous point once again, you provide the names of the area historians you are referencing, OK? Thanks.

Vienna and Fairfax City were not looking to "unload" their systems. Neither was Fall Church City until it foolishly entered the Water Wars in defense of its illegal activities and got slammed and battered by Fairfax Water into a costly and all but unconditional surrender.

By the way, how's that ten-acre prize of "prime real estate" working out so far? Still being left in the dust by the former Sam's Farm location? LOL!

So, you’re unable to name any of the area historians that you claim reached a consensus on the matter. It’s beginning to sound like you made it up. I guess the others are right- you are nothing more than a troll.

You -- under all of your phony sock-puppet profiles -- should already know. But you insist instead on a pointless pretense that the historical facts are anything other than that Falls Church City went down in flames during the Water Wars. Your own sources have repeatedly betrayed you on the point, noting that in loss after loss, FCC ended up with either nothing at all or pennies on the dollar. Your own doltish views on the matter are of course not worth anything close to that amount.

Your word salad aside, it appears you still can’t provide the identities of any local historians to support your contention. Perhaps there aren’t any.

The fact that you consider yourself to be an "historian" of any sort at all labels you as an unredeemed asshole. Actual historians deal dispassionately with actual facts. You and your band of low-grade sock-puppets are transparent phonies who want nothing to do with facts. You deal in useless hometown drivel only. Case dismissed with prejudice.

Could be wrong of course, but it may be that one of these bits and pieces is an oddly shaped parcel at the east end of the single-lane dirt road called Railroad Avenue adjacent to the bike trail. The City is allowing ten "cottages" to be packed in there along with a modest common building where a kitchen, dining area, "social interaction area," and guest room would be located. Line up early for THAT opportunity!

I grew up in Falls Church and it used to be a nice city. Now it looks like a cheap Rosslyn. Do they have to build all those high rise buildings right up to the road? It's like a cavern driving down route 7.

The charm is gone.

The place peaked 50 years ago. They opted to avoid change back then. Now they've missed the boat and don't know how to catch up.

Kind of sounds like what Kamp Washington was back in the day. But what could possibly go wrong given the city's sparkling history with "The Reserve at Tinner Hill" that was never at Tinner Hill and has now been renamed. Then there's all that remarkable progress over at "Mason Row" -- also now renamed, but still looking remarkably like a 7-11. Clearly, these "cottages" are going to be a huge success, as will whatever one day goes up on all that "prime real estate" across from the Giant. People will be forgetting about Ballston any day now.

"In the spring of 2007 the City of Falls Church and the Fairfax County Water Authority, unable to amicably resolve their differences, met on the field of battle. No bayonets gleamed in the sunlight. No drums beat or trumpets sounded. No cannons roared. But at the end of the day the City, which had sought the engagement, withdrew from the field, defeated as surely as Lee at Gettysburg. So ended the first major battle of the Water War."

"Facing the loss of its golden goose, Falls Church tried to auction off its 80-year-old water system to an investor-owned utility but had to cancel after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers nixed the idea. Fairfax County then offered to merge the two water systems, but the city demanded a minimum of $44 million up front and another $30 million to cover its outstanding debts and employee pensions."

Journal article? I see an Examiner article and a Falls Church Post article. You like the Examiner?

It's a conservative mouth piece. It's a beginning to make sense. You do exhibit the brain dead tendencies of most Trumptards.

As for the Falls Church Post, it's an online only blog for those who want to bitch. The article you quote was written before the event concluded. You're like the moron that cites First Bull Run as evidence the Union lost.

In any event, neither are historians. Please try again. Something tells me you're going to epically fail again.

The Burger King on Broad St. and Lee St. in Falls Church used to have hot rod shows in the parking lots on Friday nights. All the gearheads used to pull their rides into the BK lot and drink pull tab Schlitz's. This was a regular occurrence until the mid-'80s.

Every source cited here (including your own) has painted you as a laughable, ignorant clown. So go back and revel in the scope of your utter destruction. So, you can’t name any area historians to support your assertion. Got it. Claiming victory after being outed as nothing more than a petulant liar is about as pathetically impotent as it comes.

BTW, one of your “sources” (the Trump loving Washington Examiner) claimed Falls Church wanted $44M. They got $40M. If that’s what you consider a loss, I suppose you’ve paid full price for everything in your life. That’s the province of hapless morons. Do you have any concept of what negotiations are? Before you address that, name an area historian that supports your contention.

The only one that lost was the one who had to resort to fabricated “area historians” to feebly attempt to make a point. Unless you can name one such area historian, you’ve freely admitted you’re full of equine manure. Ever since your inability to back that contention up, you’ve floundered around like an impotent putz. You’ve resorted to feckless ad hominem attacks. You fail on style and fail on substance. I’m sure you’re plenty used to that by now.

Name the “area historians” or continue getting spanked post after post.

Back your assertion up or admit it was a lie. What’s the matter? Not man enough to admit your lie?

So, you still can't substantiate your lie about "area historians" supporting your contention.

Why would I be envious of some stooge that got caught in a lie?

You haven't won and you can't win. Your citations are from a Trump supporting rag and an article written five years before the settlement between Fairfax Water and Falls Church was made. You're like some moron writing a report on the Civil War claiming the Confederacy won based on an article about First Manassas.

Not only are you a conformed liar, you're actually intellectually challenged as well. No matter what your feeble mind tells you, that's not a recipe for victory.

Once again, name an "area historian" that supports your contention. You boldly claimed they existed. Why can't you name them niw?

I take it you still can’t provide the names of “area historians” that support your assertion. It probably occurs to you at this point that lying wasn’t a strong play. It looks like you’re stupidly prevented you from thinking you’d get caught in your lie.

The shades and colors of your staggering envy and butthurt are not actually of any relevance. The facts are that you are full of shit, and anyone who — unlike yourself — actually paid attention to the progressive and total collapse of FCC entities and positions during the Warer Wars knows it full well. Envious of What? Some moron that got caught lying on a message board? That's hardly anything to be envious of.

So, do you have the names of "area historians" that support your assertion? You claimed they came to a consensus on the matter. A consensus implies more than one studied the subject. Yet, despite your claim, you've yet to name a single one.

It's plain as day, that the only loser is you. You got caught in a lie, and no matter how hard you try to weasel out of that fact, you're just to stupid to accomplish it.

It's simple. Name the historians or admit your lie. Why are you such a coward?

As I recall, it was the spring of 2007 when the City of Falls Church and the Fairfax County Water Authority first met on the field of battle. At the end of the day, the City -- which had sought the engagement -- was forced to withdraw from the field in tatters, defeated as surely as Lee had been at Gettysburg. There followed only darker days for the defeated, as its campaign was buffeted and battered by one further setback after another. In the end, the City simply collapsed, losing its substantial capital investment, its substantial cash investment, its exclusive service area, and a major chunk of its revenue stream. Losses don't come much bigger than this one. The City had way overplayed its hand and got its butt kicked accordingly. They lost everywhere and everything. That's what went down, and every serious person knows it.

It's tiny, cramped, and outdated as we all know, but there further appears to be something about residing within the City of Falls Church that can make one oblivious to even the most evident forms of fact and reason. It may be that the CDC ought to look further into this. It would be awful if such a plague were capable of spreading into nearby, more desirable locations.

The loss of Burger King has only been compounded of late, as Falls Church also recently saw its premier dining spot -- "Meat in a Box" -- close its doors for good. True, ratings there had declined markedly in recent years, but there is no logical successor to turn to. Just another reason for the hungry to head out of town.
