Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I had to turn around TWICE because you stupid fuckers were stuck and blocking the road. If you have 4WD it really isn't bad at all out. It was a lot of fun actually.
I've already lost track today of idiots in expensive 4wd vehicles that have gone off the road or managed to block traffic as they continue--even in conditions like this-- to try to drive and talk on their cell phones at the same time. Thanks for the advice, but I will continue to drive my 2wd vehicle with good tires if that's OK with you...
Actually - EVERYONE (unless you are a first-responder or critical need) stay off the roads and let VDOT do it's job. Every "idiot" that gets stuff causes hours of delays getting the real work of clearing the roads done. Sheesh - Nothing is that important you can't chill for a day!
What? I gotta get to Tysons Corner Mall to get my Christmas shopping going on! No time to wait out the snowstorm! And if I get stuck in the snow it's VDOT's damn fault...not mine!
Agreed, all of you asshats should stay off the roads.
Also, if you drive a Lexus/BMW/Mercedes/Porsche SUV, it is my sincere wish that you all die slowly an painfully of a horrible disease. Your stupidity is on display, and you are a net drain on society.
Regardless of your drive train, stay off the road. Your job at Cinnabun will be there waiting for you after everything is cleared. And if you think that having 4WD makes you a sudden expert that is allowed to have "fun" when the plows and VDOT are trying to work, you are clearly part of the problem.
Channel 9 or 7 kept broadcasting from Arlington where there were shops open today. They only closed at 4pm because eventually Metro Rail closed down their outdoor stations.

Some fucking idiot in a 4WD kept making these fucking u-turns in the middle of the road. I saw him do it TWICE! Stay the fuck home if don't have patience in the snow.
Yeah, some 4WD people act like idiots as well. The best part is when there's ice around, and they somehow believe that 4WD is "Ice Proof" too.
Hey "Eesh", did you drive the car later on in the day? There is no way I could even hope of getting my car out of my driveway, there simply isn't enough clearance. Hell, I still have to dig-out the SUV (I might take it for a spin tomorrow).
Oh yeah, and just to let some folks know, 4WD/AWD is not a free ticket to speed and tailgate. I've seen too much of that garbage, and it's what gets people killed.

I have winter tires on my car, and the traction control came on a few times, I made it just fine.

The State doesn't have to tell me anything. I have 4WD and no desire to
get out in this. My family agreed last night that even if we have to give
a few presents late, it's better to stay home and OFF THE FUCKING ROAD!
It's not a matter of 4wd/2wd (at least not totally). If you have experience driving in conditions like these then do what you feel safe doing. These are not the conditions for inexperienced snow drivers. Go learn how to drive in slippery conditions when there are a few inches on the road. If you have experience and are comfortable/confident driving in these conditions then, like me, you prefer the packed snow to the salted, plowed, disgusting garbage we're going to have for the next few days. Packed snow is much safer (for capable drivers with decent tires) than the icy conditions we're going to have because people demand to see blacktop. And for those of who who are wishing death on stupid drivers, you're not cute.
FWD(front wheel drive) and $WD (4 wheel drive) are pretty close in traction if you know what you are doing in snow. Most people don't realize to put the FWD in a lower gear to get better traction.
4WD does have a slight advantage over FWD because generally the tires all designed more for off road and 4WD's have higher ground clearance. 4WD drives also general have 4 wheel high and low that are sets of gears design for better traction.
RWD (rear wheel drive) are the best for performance driving in dry weather but absolutely suck in rain and snow because there is no weight on the rear tires for traction. You have to weight down the backend with sandbags to get traction. Most performance cars are also geared way to high for snow. They do 0-60mph in 5 seconds, but 0-0 in snow.
