the gap is in NJ. you have to drive for about 10 miles on another highway before 95 picks back up again. the road is just signed as “To 95” while you’re on that stretch. it’s pretty weird.

there is a broken interstate in PA though. if you take I-70 west, you actually have to get off the highway, drive a few blocks through Breezewood, Pa, before you can get back on the highway again. it’s pretty unique as far as the interstate highway system goes and is widely known among roadgeeks.

95 North actually turns into 295 South in that location in the Garden State.

Yeah, 95 suddenly becomes 295 for awhile, and then you gotta get onto 195 for another 5 miles before 95 starts up again. I don't know why they just can't renumber the crap but I guess it makes sense if you live around there.

Not for long, I-95 will soon enter the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-276), cross the Delaware at the PA-NJ Joint Turnpike Bridge, and then follow the I-276 to the mainline NJ Turnpike north to the GWB. Construction on the new junction is well underway, and the toll location was moved a few years ago in preparation for this change. The existing I-95 north of I-276 in Pennsylvania will be renumbered.

There have been I-95 signs after the bridge upon entering New Jersey for years.

I-95 was originally supposed to continue from the Scudder Falls bridge near Princeton, through Somerville, and continue North, eventually merging with the NJ Turnpike. But posh Somerville and Princeton managed to nix those plans many years ago, just as many Interstates in/around Washington DC and Boston MA were cancelled in the same era.

I propose that these threads all be moved to a new sub-forum "Roads", and then we will begin to learn which posters put up interesting info. (Well, as much as that works anywhere on this site.)

I would also promote the Pictures thread to its own sub-forum.

Here's an idea: lock those two forums so that only registered users can post!

If you ride the originally proposed route (along US Route 1) you can still see abandoned buildings from when they started clearing the right of way for I-95 that was never built.

Instead of riding the new I-95 to the PA Turnpike, I just take a right onto I-195 and get on the NJ Turnpike. Faster and easier and no bridge delay in Philadelphia.

95 in NJ is the turnpike.
U can pick up another 95 where 295 ends and runs into pa and into philly then down to Delaware, which is not the same 95 as the New Jersey turnpike 95

I-95 is I-95. I-95 does not cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge, 295 does. When you cross that bridge northbound, you are dealt two choices- the NJ Turnpike or 295 which runs parallel.

If you remain on I-95 in Delaware, you will travel west of the Delaware River and parallel to 295 and the Turnpike. I-95 travels through Philadelphia and then ends around Trenton at U.S. Route One.

Here is the rub. The NJ Turnpike is marked as I-95 north of 195, but if you remained on I-95, you would have to travel south about 10 mile on 295, then take 195 east all to get onto the NJ Turnpike.

My wifes family is in Brunswick and I've traveled this route probably 100 times. The best bet is to stay on the Turnpike and pay the tolls. All other options will take a lot more time and aggravation.

Learn how to read a fucking map. I don't want to waste my time explaining why you're wrong because you are too fucking retarded to comprehend it.

Fucking moron.
