It was funny seeing the contracted pick up truck plowing for pay. Pushing wet snow already on the side of our street, just further to the side of our street never touching the middle of the road because IT WAS ALREADY CLEAR DUE TO MELTING AND TRAFFIC!!!

This is what sucks about our area. Stupid.

I noticed this too. Plow trucks roaming the streets for HOURS in the afternoon. WTF were they doing??? The shit had already melted off the street by 12:00.

So you think it's RIGHT and OK to go through the motions and do no work to get paid?

Drivers who push snow are paid by the hour, with a minimum of 8 hours plus an hour travel time to the job.

Anything over 8 hours is overtime.

Trucks that push snow contract out at over $100+ per hour

We had trucks 'plowing' our wet streets - no snow. very strange. I have no idea why today was a snow day for schools.

We had trucks treating the roads to prevent overnight freezing. Cool.

You SAW plow trucks on the roads because the contracts aren’t going to that guy that was skimming millions off VDOT !

Spring Break

OK newbie, people already asked this in the news and the fat cats already answered.

1) public safety increased, old people can be stuck at home and die (no word on how a dying old person saves themselves by driver, or why an ambulance can't drive on 4" of snow!)

2) the cost of government not being able to get to work that day is more than the cost of laying out the salt, screw it if it kills the plants and life along the feed into the patomac

(you see, OP, that old people who are dying while driving often injure people, if you didn't know)

3) oh i forgot. gov workers don't miss their restaurant meals.

The only waste was that my truck was broke down and I couldn't go out and plow to make my own money. It's in the shop now- but too late.

You know the plowsmen (and women, know of 2 personally!) around here are lucky to get 2-3 good days worth plowing and making money for the season (snowstorms over 3" is considered heavy in this area and is enough snow to justify breaking out the heavy equipment)- and I missed it. Damn.

Next year I will have a brand new truck! This one is being sold once i fix it! Going Toyota this time, I tried Ford and Dodge and they both broke down on me catastrophically with <100k miles on them and my friend has a tacoma, up to almost 300k now with no problems except for brakes but that is everyone with a truck SMH.

Didn't pay anything to our lawn dude this year to dig us out of snow. So we signed up for some extra Springtime services. The guy has mouths to feed after all.

The real question would be, why are you salting dry asphalt???

Maybe these plow people should get more steady work instead of scrounging

They HAVE steady work. They pitch in to help the rest of us out when it snows. Be a little thankful maybe instead of being a douchebag.

Just like the crew I hired years ago to cut my lawn agreed upon "as needed".
So we found them cutting literally nothing during a drought ... so they could collect full price for wasting their gasoline in exchange for full payment.
This is the mentality of many illegals who come here.
Yes I said it and I now cut my own lawn and enjoy doing it.

The fact is they are scrounging for every dollar they can get even when they aren't even needed.
