SNOW!!! Are you ready???

STERLING, VA—Following a tease Sunday that spring is beckoning, the work-week weather forecast for Northern Virginia—alas—isn't likely to put a spring in your step. We're talking about a nor'easter flirtation, with chances of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. That's the word from the National Weather Service's branch in Sterling and other weather-related outlets.

Clouds should begin to move in Monday, and later in the day and into the night, there's a strong chance of rain. Highs will be hard-pressed to reach 50 but lows should be slightly above freezing. Then comes Tuesday.

The Weather Channel breaks it down thusly: "By Tuesday night. . . low pressure should begin to take shape along the mid-Atlantic coast (and) snow or a rain and snow mix could affect a swath from the upper Ohio Valley into the mid-Atlantic region, including Washington, D.C. and Baltimore."

So there you go. And once this stuff clears out, Thursday and Friday are expected to be pretty nice. Here's the detailed forecast from the National Weather Service:

Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 35. West wind 3 to 6 mph.

Monday: A chance of rain after 2pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 50. Light and variable wind becoming east around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday Night: Rain, mainly after 11pm. Low around 35. East wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Rain and snow, mainly before 2pm. High near 41. Northeast wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tuesday Night: A chance of rain and snow before 9pm, then snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Wednesday: A chance of snow before 2pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Wednesday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 45.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 30.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 48.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32.

Saturday: A chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 49. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

I was thinking about the snow and then I got to thinking about the intersection of Annandale and Hummer Rd. Why are there so many roads that come together right there? It seems very strange that there are so many roads that seem to lead right there. I wonder if this wasn't a town a long time ago maybe with a mill and a granary?

It's not much, relative to some of the malfunction junctions in the area.
