Braddock Road - please help (or is everyone an idiot?)

Look, I get the Braddock Road/495 interchange is horribly designed. I also know the government is spending money to "study" road improvements and will, one day, fix what it broke only a few years ago when HOT lanes got added to the Beltway.

How about throwing us citizens a bone now and doing something simple to fix this cluster-eff like adding a few more road signs?

Every day drivers suddenly realize, "Oh, sh#t! I don't want to get on the Beltway." They either veer hard to the left to get back onto Braddock Road, or they sit in the median between the exit and Braddock until the traffic breaks.

Either way, these idiots cause huge back-ups during the morning commute and/or accidents.

How about VDOT painting on the road signs telling drivers "This lane for 495 only?"

How about installing additional signs on Braddock Road as early as Inverchapel or Queensberry?

Is it really this hard?

Otherwise, how about adding a Jersey wall at the intersection? If you're dumb enough not to pay attention that the two lanes merge onto the Beltway, then your punishment is to get onto 495?

Does anyone know the history of Braddock Road? Why was it built and when?

That is certainly true for most drivers. When VDOT was doing its Braddock Road improvement plan I asked the about putting in a solid barrier to prevent cars from doing that. Their response was it had been deliberately designed to allow for the things we are complaining about.

Braddock Road was built in 1937 to help congestion from Columbia Pike to Lincolnia Road. It gained national fame in 1985 when the first Starbucks in the country was put in near Parklawn. It was named after Chief Brad-dock of the local Indian tribe. He had aids.

Put up yellow plastic poles to prevent the stupid late lane changes.

Simple. Easy. Cheap.

And post a cop there everyday to shoot morons who fuck up traffic.

Allowing the Korean supermarket into that place was stupid. They can't drive for shit.

Speaking of Braddock Road, does anyone know why Braddock Road has so many traffic lights? I would think that some roundabouts would help ease congestion. And does anyone know when it was built?

Revolutionary war British general Braddock allegedly misplaced a payroll of gold and silver somewhere along this road.

Anybody know why they never built an overpass over 123? I remember hearing one was planned, but why did they not build it?

After we fix this can we please also figure out how to get people from the inner loop to the left turn lane for Ravensworth without stopping on the eastbound travel Lanes with their blinker on?

The solution for that one already exists. Those drivers should exit the Beltway at 236 or at Gallows. The only time this is a problem is when drivers think traffic will be backed up on the Beltway.
