Why do so many area roads dead end (courts, cul-de-sacs)?

There is some history you have to understand, here. The cul-de-sac was created in France just after the 100 years war to prevent the French peasants from rising up and driving straight through to the royal residence. This was brought to colonial America when the French came to help fight the British in the Revolutionary War. The tradition of having dead-end roads continues to this day. So we can thank our French brethren for not only helping defeat the British, but for giving us glorious circular dead ends to many of our roads.

The road posts are informative. We need to understand our road system since we use it every day to get to work and school and the dairy. I really enjoy learning about roads.

Here's a question - Why does Miller Rd. in Oakton have that 90 degree bend? I think it needs to be straightened.

Cul-de-sacs serve the needs of local residents while frustrating the desires of far-flung commuters to plow through our neighborhoods at break-neck speeds twice a day. Hah-hah, hah-hah!

There was an accident in my neighborhood so I had to take a different way to my house. Turned tight off main road (with the accident), made a left, a right, a left, another left, a right and finally a left onto our court. The entire time a woman was following me thinking I was going to lead her past the accident and to the exit of the neighborhood. I was laughing my ass off when she turned around at the end of the court, drove back up to the entrance and just sat there. I'm sure she was like 'where the fuck am I and how do I get out of here'.
