Can anyone please inform us why Shirlington was built? I was there today at the Cheesetique and I was wondering why that who area is as built up as it is with the towne centre.

Shirlington was founded just after the Spanish Civil war to house veterans with PTSD from the fighting. That is why there are so many small houses in that immediate vicinity. There was once a hospital and also a bakery right there around where Carlyle Grand is. There was a horse stable where the Guapos stands today.

Shirlington was founded to complement Newington and Fairlington.

Similarly, Franconia and Lincolnia are awaiting a partner city

Shirlington was originally built several decades ago as a shopping area/ downtown for the surrounding neighborhoods. It has been extensively renovated to be what it is today. One restaurant after another.

Shirlington was developed into a semi-industrial area by evil white people to get rid of some poor black neighborhoods. Prior to this the black families were kept behind a wall called Hall’s Hill Wall and parts of that wall still stand today. The final act of government inspired hatred was when the black families houses were burned to make way for the Pentagon and Arlington cemetary. The white lawmakers brought their families out for a big picnic to watch as the black families homes were burnt and torn down. Many of those poor black people fled across the river to Washington DC. Remember that Arlington county was originally southwest Washington DC and was given to Virginia at some point.

So they had cinder blocks back then?
How would a three and a half foot wall hold back a group of which is notoriously good at jumping?
I'm white and even I could get over that wall easily.

Those are breeze blocks and they are 13 inches tall each so that wall is about 7 feet high. Any black person trying to climb it could be legally shot and killed by a white man.

That wall was very difficult to climb. There are may reports from the 1800's of people not being able to climb it and even falling off of it! Very dangerous wall.

91 percent of the NBA and NCAA could jump over that little fence.
I don't see it of any use to contain the intended population.

I consider myself an excellent jumper and have won several jumping competitions. I could not jump over that wall. It is much too high and tall and is too big.
