Always have a gun to defend yourself. Just remember you will be shot back at and possibly killed.

Man Shot During Burglary in West Springfield Area

West Springfield Police District – A 56-year-old man defending his home was shot by a burglar on Wednesday, December 16 in the 6100 block of Hillside Road. Around 11 p.m., the victim encountered an armed man breaking into the residence. The victim and suspect exchanged gunfire and the victim was struck once in the chest. The suspect fled on foot but was intercepted by responding patrol officers. The victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Jonathan E. Anderson, 21, of 8929 Arley Drive, was charged with malicious wounding and burglary while armed.

You left out a step. Don't just have the gun, practice, practice, practice and make damn sure you are a good shot. Gun ownership isn't the problem here, marksmanship is. If this were my house, the responding patrol officers could have been called off and sent to an ongoing crime while the medical examiner came over to pick up the leftover garbage.

And as my father told me - if you shoot them outside, drag them back inside.

I used to play cops and robbers and laser tag when I was a kid so I have endless of hours of practice in these types of situations..

I think I am still capable of having the outcome turn out in my favor if somebody were to try and break into my house.

You realize most thugs with guns also practice and are extremely good shots.

That is all... continue your long ranger fantasy.

This is why double barreled shotguns are always a crowd pleaser. Not too discriminate, but they will hit just about anything in front of you - hard.

Yes but you have to remember that this is just like a sporting event.

The home owner will have the home field advantage.

The home owner will know all the best hiding places and where to position themself to guarantee victory.

Actually, most don't. In fact, most gun toting criminals are not even familiar with the basics of firearm technology and handling. That is why most panic and miss targets or shoot themselves in an extremity. Many can't even get the safety off.

That is all....continue cowering in fear over a legal product.

You're right 1 shot. I'm just another cowering little Democratic homo. I can't deny it. I'll move to DC where it is safe because nobody can buy a gun. Plus, I can marry my boyfriend there.

Yes they will. However, at close range the shot hasn't had much time
to spread. Shotguns for home defense require a lot of thought.
What happens to stray shot? Go through walls? Hit the neighbors house?
Much responsibility for a shotgun.

Take a look at what happens to someone hit by a shotgun at close range.

The gangs and bro's I've hung out with smack on their guns. They tuck them in their pants like badges and trophies, make videos showing them off and have plenty of slang names for the different types. If there is a way to modify their gun or some new trick they are all over it and showing the trick to all their bro's.

Now back to your books and beamer

I'd like to see the robber also charged with attempted murder.

He can't be charged with attempted murder because he was shot at first and returned fire.

Yea cause he clearly brought his gun for his own self defense.. not as a accessory to his crime...

and to all those other posts.. gangbangers DONT practice.. you kidding me? You always hear about gang shootouts happening and its always some 12 year old innocent girl getting killed or something... thankfully true gangbangers would stand out like sore thumbs in northern virginia.. for the most part... which is probably why the cops were able to find this dumbass so quickly.. good work

If you hide around a corner and snipe at a burglar you are committing manslaughter in VA. You have to show that you felt your life was threatened. Simple ballistics would show that you were hiding when you took the shot.

In court they wouldn't really lock you up for a long time because the guy did break into your house and the public would be sympathetic towards the home owner. That's why they have to do the crime scene analysis with the tape and crime scene bus. It's the homeowners word against the burglars.

If your family was in the house, you definitely could hide around the corner and snipe the burglar (legally).

The homeowner had already called the police to report someone breaking into the house before any shots were fired......The police caught the burglar running from the house while responding to that call.

(I had the scanner on last night while all this was happening)

That's why you shoot the invader more than once. Don't go apeshit and unload 15 into his ass (16 if you had one in the chamber already), but 3 or 4 probably would have done the job.
