Lake Barcroft was too big for a standard bridge span, therefore 244 or even I-95 does not cross it. That is why we have the cross-Barcroft expressway.

That's phase II, first they need to expand Braddock two two lanes each way from Columbia Pike to 236.

Yes, Braddock Rd. II will include a multi-tier span that will go over the lake. It will also include a drawbridge. A tunnel was proposed, but it was deemed to expensive and people hate tunnels except gays.

You people are so misinformed, is this a joke?

Braddock Road at Columbia Pike was widened to six lanes a couple of years ago. It is HOV only between 11:37am and 1:04pm Sunday to Wednesday, and is completely pedestrianized on Fridays.

I think you got the times wrong. Braddock Road is HOV only between 11:37 and 1:03 PM, not 1:04.

I just don't want people to get a ticket due to misinformation. Now, does anyone know why Columbia Pike dips down like it does right by the dam at Lake Barcroft? When was that stretch of road completed? I have heard it was 1924.

It’d cost a lot to build a bridge.

Lake Barcroft has approved a bridge over the lake (and neighborhood homes) in exchange Fairfax County proffered it will be responsible for fishing dead bodies out of the lake for a period of 99 years.

Baileys Crossroads Community Boosters has raised over $3,100 dollars in donations for spray paint to be provided to MS-13 for decorating the bridge with 'graffiti bridge-art.' Ads on craigslist for gay hook-ups under the bridge are pre-booking meet-up groups.

The road is ancient. See Bailey’s Crossroads in this 1861 map and go left a ways.

You stupid fucks!
VA-244 (Columbia Pike) came about before Lake Barcroft was built. Yes, Lake Barcroft is a man made lake.

Lake Barcroft was there long before Columbia Pike. Columbia Pike was constructed by indian traders who would get fish from lake Barcroft and take them to the new city of Alexandria. They would trade the fish for hatchets which they would use to scalp colonists.

But does anyone know why S. Greenbriar St. has its name? Its right off Columbia pike and is not green nor has any briars at all.

Completely wrong. Lake Barcroft is referenced in several indian books dating back several hundred years. Columbia pike is not on any maps prior to 1900.

Two interesting facts found in The Lake Barcroft Story.
https://lakebarcroft.org/about

1) Columbia Pike was constructed as a toll road in 1808, and was then called the Washington Gravelled Road.

2) Lake Barcroft came into being in 1915. An increasing need for water by the City of Alexandria led the Alexandria Water Company to build the dam and establish a reservoir to store the waters from the branches of Holmes Run. The North Branch of Holmes Run is now called Tripps Run.

The early roadbuilders were quite wise, some even say prophetic.

The could see into the future, and knew that the inhabitants of this new road would speak Spanish. They named it ‘Columbia Pike’ as this was their best guess of the settlers’ origin, not El Salvador as we now know.

The displaced Indians were moved to the north side of the road, and then it was filled with water, drowning them and creating Lake Barcroft.

They would have to have been extremely clairvoyant, because when the U.S. Capital was moved to the City of Washington in the District of Columbia, the region that now constitutes the Republic of Columbia was then known as the Viceroyalty of New Granada.

Yes, that’s the point. They were clairvoyant.
