It's the best Italian around. The only other Italian place is maybe Ciao in Centreville and the Villagio is ok in Clifton.

Given the OP is not going to NY or Italy anytime soon, Bellissimo is good enough.
Same holds true for Dolce Vita (FFX City), Trattoria Villagio (Clifton), Bonaroti (Vienna), and Pazzo Pomodoro (Vienna).
For a handful of dishes, these restaurants serve delicious, authentic Italian food.
That's just it though; you can only find a handful of really good dishes at these restaurants.
Arguably, the best Italian restaurant in the DC area -- across the entire menu -- is Floriana. It was even better in its original location near Tenleytown.
If you want to spend an arm and a leg (and a head and a torso), go to Fiola Mare in Georgetown, especially if you enjoy seafood.
Buon appetito!

It's good but service can be spotty. Try to find a Groupon for it. Bonaroti's in Vienna is a more solid choice for service. Da Dominici at Tyson's is also good. Very old-school but the food was terrific.

My gay lover and I frequently go there. The service is excellent and there are may homosexual diners that frequent this place. So I would say OP would like this establishment.
