My father went there back in the 80s. Seemed like a fine school back then, but nowadays, yeesh! When did it start to go downhill?

The Potomac mansion kids go to private schools. MV students come from the Route One immigrant hoods and the Fort Belvoir housing units. If it weren't for the military kids, MV would truly be a shite hole school.

Mt Vernon High, and its neighbor, Fort Hunt (closed in '85) were some of the better schools in the NATION through the 80's.

Fort Hunt, although small, was consistently competitive in football, track, swimming, and sent kids to the academies, Ivy's, etc.

Mt. Vernon won the state in football in '83.

Much has changed...

School can't teach beyond a 2nd grade level when the majority of the school are illegal kids that can't learn to speak English. The same thing happened to South Lakes in the 90s. That is why the created SOLs, to try to force teachers to teach something moderately on the actual grade level.
