Is it true that George Washington used this road on his commute from Mount Vernon to the White House every day?

when George was president,New York was where he lived because that was where the executive building was located. He would come back to mt.vernon now and then for vacation. The white house was under construction,along with D.C.,during his second term but he never lived there.
