Why are teachers so lazy?
Posted by: QUESTION TO FCPS ()

Teachers only work 180 days a year and only work for 7 hours a day. Not counting recesses,Planning period. And they want a raise why don't they get a summer job?

First no teacher works only 180 days. That is the minimum set by the state for school year attendance. Most teachers work a 200 day contract minimum. Also they work during planning and recess. During that time they are grading papers, making copies, making lessons, supervising students, calling parents, filling out reams of paper work for 504 plans, IEP's, school improvement plans, interim reports, setting up labs, cleaning their room, taking online classes for license requirements, tutoring students who need help, meeting with principals for personal goal setting, maintaining abused computers used by spoiled students, organizing proms and homecomings, running various clubs for students, calling places to set up field trips, cruising the internet looking for good quizzes, test, worksheets to use in the future, looking at AP sites for helpful instructional hints and exercises, meeting with assistant principals to testify about discipline issues, filling out forms documenting discipline issues, going to the bathroom, meeting with fellow teachers to make common formative assessments required by the county, and then after that they sit on their butts.

Teachers aren't unhappy with the work. That's what they signed up for. What they're unhappy with are morons like you babbling incoherently about what they do.

Of course if you were teachable, you'd know better. So you and they are about as far apart as could be.

How many teachers have you known?

They are right up there with real estate agents. They aren't exactly lighting the world up with their brilliance...thus they teach 2nd graders all day. Second graders can't really correct them much or know that something they said is entirely false, so they are safe.

The pay is commensurate with the quality of the staff, the risk and the level of effort required to do the job.

What about the technical and career vocational teachers that teach adults ...and make close to 100K, the ones that teach intro to health professions, cosmetology, mechanics, dental hygiene, vocational nursing/nurse assistants? not all teachers teach children- there's an entire program where teachers only have adults.... other states don't do this and it's a total abuse of taxpayers money. When are the taxpayers going to learn about the abuse of their hard earned dollars?
