The current incarnation of the 29 Diner is not as good as some of the earlier ones. It's worth a try, but a better choice food wise e might be The Virginian in downtown Vienna. It's more of a luncheonette than a diner though.

The 29 diner in Fairfax City? It was very good 2 years ago.
Some people didn't like it because the prices were higher.
They would rather go to some cheap place with terrible food.

For decades it was a grease and roach trap, a shadow of its glory days
in the 1960s. Then in late 2014 someone bought it and fixed it all up,
new everything inside, restored all the art deco stuff, all new food and staff.
It was very good. But I haven't gotten over there much lately.

Unless something changed recently, it's good.
Just go there and find out for yourself.

Most of the posts above speak to the (very low) quality of the average FFXU poster rather than to the quality of the 29 Diner. The latter was for many years a bustling, traditional diner, but as dining options and habits evolved, the whole diner genre sort of fell by the wayside. The current owners basically pulled the place out of the waste stream and gave it new life. I try to stop by from time to time just as part of a local's patriotic duty. Or sometimes just to check out the BBQ or those "commie" antique car rallies.

The operative phrase her describing the diner is "waste stream", and sadly, it still applies.

Went there recently for the first time for breakfast and I agree, it's a bit over-priced, omelette was mediocre, home fries under cooked - had to send them back. On the plus side, it's one of the few breakfast places in NOVA that has scrapple on the menu. E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!

Good luck with that. They had to install padlocks on them because people with no fixed address were diving and leaving a mess for them to clean up.

Its pretty good, Its an old school greasy spoon that cooks everything and anything from your grandmothers cook book. Yes its a little pricey but they raise money for any cause you can think of. Its a revamp of a historic place, and I think they have done a good job with it.

I went there this morning (3 AM) for breakfast and had the cheese omelette
with sausage, and a bowl of chili. The 3 egg omelette was simple and great.
The sausages were gigantic and tasty - you won't find anything like that in
any regular breakfast joint.

I only tasted the chili because I was filled up and took it home to go.
It was a huge portion. It tasted great, was spicy, and the beef was
shredded chunks of pit beef.

The 29 Diner is partly a BBQ joint now, although they don't pitch it that way.
That is why the delicious sausage and beef chili.

The service was outstanding: waitress was friendly and very attentive.

I had not been here in about a year.
I still give it a THUMBS UP.

PS. The place was also nice and clean, and well lit.
I think they improved the lighting since I was in there last.

Also, there were about six different unusual vehicles parked out front.
Old classic cars and trucks. Probably belongs to some club.
The owners were not inside (there were only one or two other people
in the join at 3:30 AM on a Saturday morning). I think there is
some kind of "classic car" meetup there on Sat or Sun.
Presumably something to do with them.

The old time car shows are a regular weekend feature. At least when the weather is okay. The Diner itself has been there since 1947. Much of it is still original. The current owners restored way more than they replaced when they took over.

Food tastes like shit and it’s fucking dirty in there. Pretty sure the health inspector needs to check this place out. I’m honestly amazed it is still open.

The owner is a self righteous douche who keeps flags right next to his grill that end up soiled. It’s disrespectful.

For decent BBQ there’s plenty of other spots within 30 or 40 mins.

John Wood owns the 29 Diner. The man has a heart of gold when it comes down to giving back to the community with him donating to many charities, helping so many children, families, veterans, police, sheriffs, firefighters, Virginia State Police, teachers, the list is endless.

Many of you who 'trash' John and the 29 Diner are cold and heartless and you have no human soul. Those who have ripped him or his diner don't have an ounce of decency or compassion for people in your stone cold blood that pumps through your veins.

Diner food is diner food. John and his team at 29 Diner serve up some great comfort food to so many people in our area.

I know some asshole will rip me for defending John and his 29 Diner but I am a very hard core conservative retired vet. I don't take shit from anyone and I could easily take out most of the fucking pussies who sit in their mom's basement in their dirty underwear full of their own shit and piss stains while they eat stale Lucky Charms with expired chunky milk who foam at the mouth and post negative nasty shit all the time on Fairfax Underground.

I dare any of you lifeless simple minded dipshit fucks who have ripped the 29 Diner to go down in person and tell John what you have posted here. You have no fucking balls and deserve to get your sorry pansy asses whipped every fucking day of the week!

I'm the guy who posted the positive review (omelette) above,

(And yes John Wood is a good man who gives back to the community.)

There is nothing that conservatives can boast about these days (meaning the last century or so), but politics has little to so with the 29 Diner. Former owners simply aged out of being able to carry the business forward, and we are all fortunate that this local "white knight" rode in to the rescue. Hopefully his passion will not wane, and we can all enjoy many more years around here of what was once commonplace everywhere. Long live Mom's Meatloaf!

For 40 years, it's been "The Inn at Little Washington" -- distinguishing Washington, VA from Washington, DC. The Inn is probably down a tad from its peak, but it still rates at least 4.9 Dalmations out of 5.0, and it remains the #1 spot in the area. Expensive, but always money well spent. The food and service are consistently first class. Still, dinner at Bonaroti's in Vienna on Monday was very nice, it was a lot closer, and it came at perhaps half the price it would have been out at The Inn. Which goes to show that there is a time for every purpose under heaven.

When the parking lots full of trucks, the foods good. The truth is that there's room for the trucks to park.

I always like to stop at a busy place with lots of cars as the food is going to be good, because its going to be fresh with lots of customers

That's because lots of customers keep fresh food coming in. When I see a place that s l o w You get the idea, slow place stale food.

This place looks packed ! Got to be good!

John Wood, the owner of the 29 Diner, is a really great man! He supports vets, local police, Virginia State Police, firefighters, EMTs, and is a conservative guy who has a heart of gold for teachers and children, too. John's children even help out at the diner. People who are ripping the diner haven't been there to meet John or to taste his delicious food. And the haters have no balls to go to the 29 Diner and say what they post online because they know that a long line of vets would be there to kick their ass!

All of these places today are at least 10 bucks for a good breakfast with coffee

I had a Mc'Ds steak egg bagle this am over 5 dollars to go and that was it

I went many times to the 29 years back, Ill give them a try , If I don't see any leftist political BS or loud liberal Democrat political statements from the mouth of the owner it will be a fine place to try and perhaps come back too.

If I do and Ive ordered I will eat, pay up and leave and never return or walk out as soon as I hear or see any of it if I have not ordered. And I wont stiff the cooks or waitress on a tip, who ever serves except the owner, they are workers that need a job

Last year, 29 Diner was cited for 10 "critical" health code violations, including five repeat violations. No soap near the handwashing sink, dishwasher that doesn't clean dishes, no certified food manager... the list goes on and is disturbing The repeat violations are the most disturbing issue.

"In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,"
[Virginia Department of Health website]

And of course in it's inspection of December 11, 2017 (you know, last year), 29 Diner had ONE violation. The chlorine disinfectant sprayer in the dish machine had malfunctioned.

Yo, lil cunt - there were 12 months last year, just like every year, and dirty 29 Diner collected 10 critical healthcode violations in 2017. Five repeats. Seems they rarely have a working dishwasher or certified food manager around. Eat there if you don't care about your health and are a libtard douchebag!

LOL! The question that you answered incorrectly was with regard to health inspections at the 29 Diner, not how many months there are in a year. Kudos for actually knowing that answer though. Meanwhile, the most recent 2017 inspection at 29 Diner has already been referred to twice, and you STILL don't get it. It's almost as if you're nothing but a compromised right-wing asshole or something.

Ate there a couple months ago for breakfast. Really, there are better diners around. Amphora's pancakes run circles around 29, and the City Diner around Bailey's Crossroads is also better.

I might go back at some point, as they support the community. But it's a lot to pay for cramps dining and so-so food.
