Ever watch a honeybee nest being invaded by a hornet? What happens? Do the bees run away and find help, hoping the hornet won't kill too many of their friends in the meantime? Do they try to find how the hornet got there and destroy the next hornet's means to do the same? Are some bees trained to spot angry hornets where they live and divert them from finding their nest?

No, they don't mess with any of that. They're just prepared to attack him as soon as he shows up. The hornet won't leave their nest alive. Every bee is one the hornet needs to worry about, and they're in numbers too large for the hornet to escape.

Yes, it might make their nest seem like an armed camp. And it is. But they don't worry about that, and they don't depend on anything or anyone else to save them. It's their job to save themselves. And it works.
