Instead of chanting U! S! A!, everybody should just start chanting THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS! THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS! whenever these mass shootings happen. It seems to be the Trumptard way of handling uncomfortable issues.

Of course, that individual is well within his rights to not cooperate, but that doesn't prevent them from knocking on the door. Most idiots know that.

Additionally, when local law enforcement is called to a residence 39 times for a single individual, they can certainly start a civil commitment process or arrest him for domestic violence (which was substantiated in at least one report).

In Florida, a person may be placed in involuntary inpatient treatment under a court finding of clear and convincing evidence that mental illness is present and that because of the mental illness, the individual:
- is unable or refuses to make responsible decisions with respect to voluntary placement for treatment AND either
- without treatment, be incapable of surviving alone or with the help of willing family or friends, or be likely to suffer from neglect or refuse to care for himself/herself in a manner that will pose a real and present threat of substantial harm to well-being; OR
- be a danger to self/others, as evidenced by recent behavior

Let's apply this criteria to this case. The police and other agencies visited the home dozens of times meaning they had significant interaction with this individual and enough information to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

There are actually tens of thousands of "tips" each week.

The FBI violated their own protocol. They failed the children. Do you know how those tips work? Of course you don't because your a fucking moron.

A tipster calls 1-800-CALLFBI. That call is generally handled at the field office. Then the calls are sorted according to topic and transferred to a trained employee in WV if the call deals with potential crimes or threats to public safety (which was the case in this situation).

That employee evaluates not just the raw data being presented, but the credibility of the caller. The caller in this case was "someone close" to the shooter, likely a family member.

When a tip is determined to have merit, which this one was deemed to, it is passed along to a supervisor who forwards it to the appropriate field office. In this case, it should have gone to Miami.

It never made it to Miami. The FBI acknowledged the information provided by the caller should have been assessed as a potential threat to life. The information should have been forwarded to the FBI Miami field office, where appropriate investigative steps would have been taken.

As we all know, that did not happen and there are 17 murdered children because the system broke down.

As for the authority to deal with a tip, you are a moron on that front as well. The FBI can start an assessment with nothing more than a tip or a hunch. In an assessment, they can interview potential witnesses or informants, including the person who called in the tip. They can search commercial and government databases, and conduct physical surveillance of a person's public movements.

Guess what they did in this case. Nothing.

Here's how it works.

FBI gets call. FBI transmits pertinent information to field office. Field office agent issues a guardian or opens an assessment. Immediately after that, the agent would uncover the previous guardian or assessment that was opened because of the previous YouTube threat.

After that, there are multiple branches on the decision tree. One could be interviewing the subject and/or his family members. One could be a deeper background check that would've revealed his previous numerous interactions with law enforcement. The FBI could've recommended and pushed the shooter into counseling or even recommended commitment based upon his file.
