I’m guessing OP wants new concourses or renovated ones.

That is helpful...not. I like the layout of Dulles. It is from another time, but that alone isn't a reason for replacing it.

Dulles airport is terrible. It's embarrassing. As a frequent business traveller I often wonder who designed it. The food choices are also trap compared to other major city airports.

The C and D concourses at IAD are "temporary". That's why the train stops a half-mile from the C gates: it stops where the C gates are *supposed* to be, if and when they ever get replaced.

Mind you, these "temporary" concourses have been there for over 30 years. Must be some definition of "temporary" with which I am unfamiliar...

This is so true. Even to and from train way too much walking and going up down around. Whoever designed that place had no idea...like they just connected pieces together in the most retarded way.

Maybe I'm just used to it, but I find IAD to be one of the better airports, other than the aforementioned hike from the train to C gates. Try Pearson--you'll walk 10x as far. Or ORD--come into F, trek a mile to B. Even SFO can be quite the hike. And LAX? LGA? JFK? Major shitholes by comparison. MCO smells like mold everywhere. EWR...oy.

Honestly, I'm not defending IAD like some sort of fanboi. Just sayin' that of the many large airports I've flow in and out of, it strikes me as not too bad.

Now, you start comparing it to a midsize airport, especially one of the many such that have been rebuilt in the last decade or so, and you'll not find me disagreeing. But they're much smaller, which makes things a lot easier.

And some of the small airports are downright fun: HPN always makes me feel like the cast of Wings is about to appear, and if you've ever been at SWF when a jumbo is diverted from JFK due to weather, you'll never forget it (the plane is taller than the terminal!).

Finally (and I know I'll get some hate for this): I actually kind of like the mobile lounges!

Also new cargo on the 606 side and a 2nd terminal in 35 years on the south side by rt 50.

United signed an agreement to keep Dulles a hub until 2025. There will be more improvements coming to keep up with National.

Gotta say if you're a cut our taxes type, you have no room to talk. Congress has been slowly degrading it's performance through cutting both budget and regulatory actions.

For arriving foreign visitors about to fly on U.S. domestic carriers, IAD is a great introduction to the level of service offered by the domestics.
