White male accidentally kills best friend then shoots himself at his birthday party
A Michigan man accidentally killed his best friend before fatally shooting himself at his birthday party Friday, authorities said.
Zachary Woodcock invited some friends to celebrate his 21st birthday at his home in the Bavarian Haus Apartments in Merrill, MLive reported.
Woodcock pulled out a gun and then accidentally shot 21-year-old Richard Skillman in the chest before 10 p.m., Saginaw County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Gomez said.
Skillman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Woodcock then went outside and shot himself, Gomez said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died Sunday.
Gomez told WJRT-TV the other partygoers had been drinking before Woodcock went to his room to get his gun.
“Anytime there is alcohol involved and guns, that is a bad mix and almost nothing good is ever going to come of it,” he said.
Authorities recovered 10 guns, including the one used in the shooting, from the home.
