Ex-wife of lawmaker who killed himself claims he molested two girls including a relative for more than a decade before shooting himself in the head
Brandon Hixon, the former Idaho Republican state lawmaker who committed suicide on Tuesday, molested two girls, including a female relative, his ex-wife has claimed.
The bombshell claims came from Danielle Eirvin Hixon, the 36-year-old statesman's ex-wife, who says he abused and raped the relative for more than a decade.
Danielle Hixon said on Wednesday that her ex-husband was being investigated for raping and inappropriately touching two young girls. She said one of the alleged victims was molested for about 11 years.
'Brandon made people believe that he was a stand-up, morally correct person,' she said. 'But behind the house walls, he would cheat on me and molested children.'
Danielle Hixon, who was married to Hixon for 10 years before their divorce in 2016, said she had 'no idea' the abuse was happening because the girl 'kept it quiet for so long'.
She said she found out about the second victim, who is not related to the Caldwell politician, from the girl's mother.
The father-of-four died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on January 9, nearly three months after he abruptly resigned from his position in the Idaho House following reports that he was being investigated for sexual abuse.
He was found dead by a relative at his Caldwell home around 7am. His death was announced a few hours later by House speaker Scott Bedke.
'Former Rep. Brandon Hixon has tragically taken his own life. Our thoughts go first to family and friends who are suffering from this loss,' Bedke said.
He added: 'We should… support those who are close to us when they are struggling. Please remember Brandon's family in your prayers.'
Danielle Hixon told the Associated Press that investigators told her not to go public with the allegations until her ex-husband was charged. She said the reason to keep the information confidential ended when he committed suicide.
'I say he was a coward by taking the easy way out,' she said, adding that her family was robbed of the chance to get justice or closure through the legal system.
According to the former spouse, she and two other people were scheduled to testify on Wednesday in front of a grand jury.
The attorney general's office, who took over the investigation from Caldwell police, declined say whether a grand jury had been scheduled prior to Hixon's death. They also would not provide further details on the case.
It remains unclear how old the alleged victims were when the abuse took place and how one of the girls was related to the former lawmaker.
Hixon's sister, Kayle Olson, said information surrounding the case should have remained private and slammed her former sister-in-law for 'running to the press' so soon after Hixon's death.
'Danielle has brought forth many allegations. She has put the minor children on the front line of this tragic battle when they should have not ever been,' Olson told the Idaho Statesman on Wednesday. 'This should have remained private and not exposed by her in the manner it has been.'
She added: 'This is a sealed case with minors involved and the children need to be thought of first, which she has completely failed to do.'
The month before his suicide, Hixon was arrested twice on suspicion of driving under the influence.
During the first incident on December 9, he was also charged with resisting arrest when he refused to get out his car. Police later found that the former statesman and father-of-four had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
On the December 30 incident, he was not under the influence of alcohol but had a depressive drug in his system.
Records also show that in December 2014 he was investigated for inappropriately touching someone - possibly a child. He was never charged in that incident because the alleged victim could not provide police with enough details.
Hixon also ran into trouble during his 20s. Before the age of 21, he already had five convictions including two for alcohol possession, urinating in public, having an invalid driver's license and a curfew violation.
When he first ran for office, and during his re-election, Hixon brushed off his past convictions off as 'youthful indiscretions'.
He is survived by his four children, ages six to 17.

If every violent, criminal black committed suicide, there wouldn't be ANY blacks left in America!
