Yes quite the boondoggle job... why don't they leak salaries per hour? I bet many of these teachers end up making well over $150 hour and then if you include benefits it would be more like $250 hr. These salaries and benefits for a very part time job with sleep in days, weeks on end for winter and spring break, summers off, early release, sleep in days... sickening. These teachers should be ashamed to take their pay... for as little as they actually work.

If you put their salaries over an entire work year for private sector, the annual salaries would be well over $300K per year.

Sickening. Poor teachers... I guess they may have to go to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off in December, work 3 days, off 3 days, then holiday... phewww ..no matter taxpayers and workers are pissed.

If you'd actually paid any attention in math class, you could do the calculations. Let's accept you and your ilk's brain-dead "six hours a day, 180 days a year". That's 1080 hours a year. Let's round that DOWN to 1000 hours (increasing the per-hour rate, so shaving it in the favor of your argument). Even though you probably need to take your shoes and pants off to count past 20, you can probably figure out that this would mean that a $100,000 per year employee is making $100/hour.

Now look at the data. Fewer than 6% of those employees make over $100K.
Overall average across all 26K is a hair over $60K.
If we just take the teachers (about half, interestingly enough), average is just under $70K.

So those map to $60/hour or $70/hour respectively. Which probably makes a lot of you say "Wow, I don't make that!" -- but you're claiming they work only 1,000 hours a year, which is about half time. But 180 days a year doesn't leave them room for a second job (except something temporary over the summer, which will pay poorly), so the net is -- they're still not making much money.

I think this fractured sentence is referring to burdened costs (including benefits, etc.). Nobody doubles white-collar salaries to burden costs--even if your per-hour math had stood up, this was more nonsense.

With students like you, I do feel sorry for them!

How’s that gonna happen? I thought it was established that you have no education...

If this job is such a cake walk for big money why is there a critical shortage of teachers in Va? So go on and get a teaching job. I bet you don't last the first year.

I like your thinking! You have your priorities straight and with that attitude you will have Gate House potential in a year or so!

He think it works like the Wizard of Oz. He's going to tap his sparkly shoes and repeat "I want to be a teacher" until it becomes true.

what's not to like...? part time job at inflated full time salary for some (not all) of the teachers (those with salaries of 80K and above) with over the top Cadillac benefits. I wish I had gone into education because although I work year round with miserly benefits and 2 weeks off a year, I don't come near the salaries some of these teachers make. (Let me say, the top of the line teacher that is teaching something like math, English, to kids I get...but there are some teachers and other staff on this list that are not in that category). Along those lines, why are teachers paid by grade versus what they teach, their schedule, the quality of their teaching? That's how it's done in private industry. So yes... why is it that people I am paying huge tax dollars for have it better than those in private sector/// no wonder taxpayers are pissed.
