Ice trucks Jumping the Gun Again

The truck are lined up again for the report of a half inch this afternoon...load'em up and waste that taxpayer funds.

Never-mind the damage to the roads, vehicles and environment of the hundreds of tons of salt dumped.

Would be interesting to see the salinity of the Occoquan reservoir.

As a State of Virginia Game Warden, I had the same question 5 years ago so, I grabbed a water testing kit and took some samples. When I came in the next morning to record the results, 3 of the sensor probes had corrosion through their insulated lead wires to the point where the probe was sitting in the bottom of the glass jar.

I was stuck in that last ice storm we had on Wednesday night.
If you fuckers are in the ice storm predicted area, I would leave DC now and head home.

That ice storm was so bad it took me 4hrs to drive 24 miles!
Couldn’t go into work bc I got home after 0200!

Thread based on misconception and ignorance.

VDOT uses primarily brine (salt water) and has already been laid down on the roads from the last storm. It is a more effective, less expensive method for keeping the roads from icing, also better for the environment and your vehicle.

They will go back over roads with granular if it starts as mostly rain/sleet that will wash away brine. Especially on heavily trafficked roads.

There are also many, many more trucks sitting around now that are private contractors paid to clear private roads, developments, shopping centers, etc. They use salt and there's no regulation to stop them. (We HATE regulations, don't we.)

Odd to see so much concern for the environment over the state salting roads than what is dumped in our watershed by corporations. Or underfunded infrastructure like Alexandria's sewage system that overspills raw sewage in the Potomac, because 'gotta keep those taxes low'.

Keep on Derpin' in the free world.

Bullshit.

1. Game Warden's don't test water. In this area, they only sit in a truck at the Burke Lake Fishing Only parking lot kicking joggers and walkers out.

2. If you were a game warden, you'd know there is a Occoquan Watershed Monitoring Laboratory run by Virginia Tech. You could get login credentials to their website or call them to get the latest tests.

Your derp is weak.

ALSO

A refractometer would have done the job within seconds and at least half the cost.

You must be one of those suburb types with a little car and little life that needs salt to go to Starbucks.

The sleet is coming down a this moment. FCPS and many school systems made the right call. Amature hour will probably start at about 3 pm, if you are coming from DC, you might think long and hard about using the GW and Clara Barton Parkway, Park Service is so stupid about treating the roads they are responsible for, I was on the GW Parkway on the other day at 4:30 am when most of the primary Faifax roads had been pre-treated and salted and the GW Parkway has not been touched.

I had a friend stranded on the GW Parkway about 5 years ago for 13 hours because of the idiots that do not know how to manage a road.

half inch of ice, did you say? Will that be like a sheet? Sounds serious. Does Fairfax have ice trucks?

(Somebody's got a saltwater fish tank and/or home brewing.)
