are you worried about your car starting ?

Are you worried about your car starting tomorrow? I haven't started my car since Saturday and I am worried that it will not start... Should I be worried?

Tried to start mine today - no dice. I haven't started it in two weeks (I was out of town) and it's been sitting outside.

Just started mine. So cold, the LCD displays are dim. Til 3 -4 minutes to get warm and the heated seats and steering wheel took 2 minutes. Oh my.

Be brave.

You pikers.

My cars are all in a heated garage. And I have a reserved parking spot in the underground garage at my office building. If I do have to park outside for some reason, I have no fear my German-engineered vehicle will start every time. Oh, remotely, too. That way I don't have to wait in a cold car while it heats up.

All depends on how old the battery is.

If the battery is elderly, it might die. Just like a person!

You kids. This isn't cold. Cold is when you split and hear it crackle when it hits the ground. Cold is when you take a deep breath and feel the membranes in your nose freeze. This is not cold. This is *cool*.

When it actually gets cold, then you can worry about your cars not starting. -20F or colder.

Nope, my garage has been about 39 degrees all weekend. Not terribly cold and shouldn't be enough to kill a <2 year old battery. Wife's car got a new battery in August. Should be good to go.

< 1 A isn't going to start a car, it won't even help

furthermore it'd take days to charge, maybe just two if you brought the battery inside

if it doesn't start it's highly likely you need a new one: charging is only going to help you get to a place that will change it for you, which i suggest since your clueless about whether you need one

(did you check your battery connections are tight and if you need water in your battery?)

Old mechanics trick - drop an Alka-Seltzer in your battery the night before to guarantee a quick start on an extra cold morning.

If you are worried about a 2 year old car battery then it must be a POS.

WRONG

Purified water (not tap water) is the ONLY kind of water that replenishes a battery.

You can order battery acid too, if you think that is low, but do not remove any old fluid due to the lead in it.

Even with acid/h20 replacement, batteries will, after a few acid replacements, stop performing, due to lead corrosion. You can't open the battery to clean it and what would you do with lead scrapings anyhow?

Batteries are sealed and FULLY recycled: so just get a new one. It's a secret we all know about.

Adding fresh acid is a good idea. You can siphon out some of the old with a straw before pouring in the fresh stuff.

the real "old mechanics trick" is an old chemistry trick:

baking soda helps clean battery contacts, though a battery wire brush is still suggested for simplicity

a few electrons in valence are weekly held, many electrons in valence (between a few and 8) are tighly held and like to "take" more. HCL is an acid. When HCL combines the H is said to be an H+ ion in solution because in solution H variously detatches and re-attaches: thus becomes a free H to attach to anything HCL is in contact with - which will "react" with many things (except plastic bottles that hold it on store shelves!)

acids have H+ ions (they have a free hydrogen electron to donate), bases have H-. (note this doesn't mean the H are + or missing an electron when detatched, which as i said is continual process of many things in solution, not just acid)

baking soda is a base that neutralizes acids, in water it bubbles when active

Add two tablespoons of honey to your washer fluid. The antibacterial qualities will prevent freezing and you be amazed how quickly and completely your windows de-ice in the morning.

note the above is confusing but leave it at that: H detatches from HCL to form hydronium h3O and Cl is left "CL-" (and could combine with what it contacts in solution), but CL- robs H back again to form HCL. the "action" comes in when anything that is effected by H or Cl is presented. let's leave it at that.

(if CL- were really an electron donor it would never take the H back - meaning the - is acid notation not indication of electron affinity in solution)

(for chem equation CL- means that CL- (valence 7) takes an electron to maintain the "stable 8", it doesn't NOT mean CL is negative :)

sealed batteries that don't require water, agm batteries (sealed)

WELL KNOWN INDUSTRY LIES. THEY ARE CHEAP ASS BATTERIES THAT PREVENT YOU FROM REFILLING THE BATTERY.

The sealed “caps” on those batteries pop right off with a screwdriver. Add tap water/acid as needed to recharge them. Loosening them the night before helps in the morning.

Because ice and bacterial action are so closely linked.

Lol dude. That was meant as a joke. Honey will completely clog the small rubber lines that manage the washer fluid, especially in the cold. Not very bright are ya?

Park so that if your battery does die that another car can reach it with jumper cables.

Admiring you if you are riding in this wind chill weather, not to mention the snow and icy spots.
