FCPS WILL OPEN ON TIME TOMORROW
Posted by: FCPS NEWS ()
Date: January 01, 2018 07:29PM

Happy New Year!
We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school tomorrow, Tuesday January 2, and school will start on time. While our students have been enjoying the break, our facilities and transportation staff have been working proactively to ensure our buildings and busses are ready for the cold weather.
While we do expect to run on time, some unplanned and limited bus delays could occur. If a bus is more than 15 minutes late, please check the FCPS bus delay page for a status: https://busdelay.fcps.edu/
We encourage all students to please dress for the weather. FCPS will continue to monitor the weather this week, and throughout the winter, should conditions require changes to operations we will communicate as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Wind chills are in the SINGLE digits. Little kids have to walk to school and some do not have transportation to school. Have a heart. It's one day to ensure your students safety. We've had 1 snow day in the last 1.5 years. This is nonsense.

Orange County, Allegany, and Hampshire are all operating under delays with one academy even closing. Come on.

You sissies. Layer your kids up. They will be fine. You think we ever got off school because it was too cold? Nope. 4-6 grade, we walked about 1/2 mile each way to school and back. When it rained, we wore raincoats and carried an umbrella. When it was frigid, we wore a sweater, coat, hat, gloves and a scarf. Not that complicated. People have been walking to school in the cold for a long time. How do you think kids survive in Minnesota and Wisconsin in the winter?

We regularly went to school in -15, -20 degree weather in Vermont. It was fine. Sometimes it snowed too. The forecast tomorrow is CLEAR and well above that. Bundle up, put on your big boy parenting suit, and get the coddled kids in gear.

Big boys and girls go to school in the cold.

Fucking idiot. It's winter. Of course its cold. No child in the history of the county has ever frozen to death walking to school. If you would have had their fat asses out on some playground during the break they would be used to the weather by now.

Surely you are a troll. The rest of us call this WINTER. A snow day isn't an entitlement, it is what happens when it snows too much to operate the yellow buses. There is no snow in the forecast for Monday, it is expected to be sunny and clear.

Put extra layers on. By the way, the so-called "wind chill" refers to the effect on wind on bare skin. Cover up your skin, like all the boys and girls do in New York, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, and hopefully Virginia. The weather will be a lot colder in Maine tomorrow than Fairfax County and I guarantee nobody will be frozen while walking to school.

You assume that kids have been outfitted for hiking in 10 degree weather.

That's not typical temperatures in Virginia.
You can't bundle up in clothes you don't own.

They can't layer a few sweaters? Stop making excuses for people and maybe they will start to help themselves.

Not an argument. The potomac has been freezing solid for centuries.

The kids have more to fear from a soccer mom running them over because she is too busy texting the other soccer moms about whose husband makes the most money.
