What are the best smoking bars in Fairfax County after Dec. 1st?

A group of friends and I are looking for a smoking bar to call our new home?

Whitlow’s on Wilson Boulevard in Arlington will still be able to allow smoking in its Sandbar room and patio, which is ventilated separately, according to General Manager Emmanuel Fliakas, who scheduled a walk-through with the Virginia Department of Health to ensure the room was compliant.

Not exactly a bar, but if you enjoy cigars, dropping by this place in Burke can be a good time: http://www.burkecigar.com/index.html

I wandered in a few weeks ago on a Saturday and everybody was drinking margaritas (free) and having a good time. Food also. A rep from a cigar supplier was offerring discounts. They also occasionally have outdoor events at local restaurants, one in Fairfax City.

Check out the "Events" link at their site.

The bars that have converted to smoking are going to get an initial windfall in profits for the next couple of months.

It's looking like Jacksons and Whitlows are the new places to go, they will be packed.

Good bye to all the other b-tenders.

Anyone in the table serving business should have applied for a job at these places months ago.

I think Great Falls Tavern was going to wall off their bar from the restaurant to allow smoking. I am pretty sure that they already had a separate HVAC unit and exhaust for the bar area. I have not been there in about 9 months, anyone know what is up with the Tavern?

If they didn't, they'd spend a year scrubbing the walls and floors to get all smoke stains/smells out. It's actually less work this way.

Backyard is way too small(about 40 seats), always fights and cops love to follow people out of the parking lot. The place is a sausage fest with some creepy old guy in glasses sitting at the bar.

John's Place is a great dive to grab a beer and a cig. The bar is all smoking and the pinball room is non-smoking. As you go in the front door you have to turn to left then go thru two other doors.

It's kinda a biker hangout. Some lady walked in yesterday and order a glass of wine. I thought the regulars were kick her ass! LMAO

I had to snap a picture of this. This from the bathroom at John's place. I found it very comical. I think it speaks for itself.

I walked into John's place one time with a friend....

dressed in normal clothes. Casual friday kind of stuff. Late afternoon, one day last summer.

We'd passed it a million times and always joked about going in.

Walked to the main bar....greeted by about 10 sets of eyes, looking at us like we were aliens. The lady bartender immediately told us, "Patio is upstairs". Not mean in any way, she just knew we wouldn't want to hang out down there. No biggy.

We walked up there. There was a sweet Mannassas type girl up there by herself tending bar. Drank a few beers. She was friendly and attentive.

Not sure of the point of this. But basically John's Place is pretty blue-collar. probably won't go back unless its to the patio.

----------

Uptown....i heard someone mention. I haven't been there. But I've seen it sitting there next to The Harley Shop in Fairfax. Doesn't look like the type of place you would go to hang out. More like the type of place you would go to experience sub par Asian fusion (?) and never return. Probably a front for another operation I would imagine.

I know these aren't Fairfax County/ City places but Hard Times in Clarendon and Flying Fish in Old Town have smoking areas inside. Also Landini's in Old Town.

Blue Water Grille in centreville (sully station) allows smoking but could possibly be the shadiest bar in the area. I hate this fucking place. Ownership and staff are awful. However if you live close and feel the need to smoke inside at a bar this, unfortunately, is your best bet. Also, if you're under 21 feel free to drink here. How this place still has a liquor license is beyond me.

the fine is only 25 dollars but its going to be enforced by the health department, and they will say its a health code violation and shut down the restraunt or bar

By his own admission, Gumbel was a three-pack-a-day smoker for 10 years, but said he quit more than 30 years before his cancer diagnosis. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/bryant-gumbel-reveals-lung-cancer-battle/story?id=9279746

In addition he was a cigar smoker after he quit coffin-nails. So yes I do know and you are an addict hoping against hope you will beat the odds and not die a horrible death because of your addiction.

now go away and hide

How the hell can anyone smoke three packs a day that's 60 cigarettes a day.

I can smoke 3 packs a day.Especially when alcohol is involved. Hence the need for smoking allowable bars.

However, I seriously doubt the need for an emergency oncology center. Cancer is not something you are suddenly stricken with, it takes time. And beforehand, I may hit a tree that doesn't move. Then I will need an emergency center.

Life's a gamble, do what feels good.

Does the Fairfax Circle IHOP still have the high school smokers room? It had doors, so maybe it could remain open with the new law.
