To be fair, George Lucas is himself a coal burner in real life, so it is not Disney’s fault.

I haven't seen the new one yet, but judging from the first movie of the reboot, it seems their relationship is more platonic than romantic. Almost brotherly and sisterly affection than sexual attraction.
