Maybe VHSL should implement a new rule to limit the amount coaching experience allowed per team? Would that make the whiner happy?

Falls Church is Class 6 starting next year. So are Edison and Wakefield. Are the Jags going to upgrade their schedule are are they going to continue taking advantage of the VHSL point system and playing small DC schools?

Smith has just about the same number of kids that transfer out of their program compared to those who go into it. In 2015, that team had 3 Senior All Tidewater defensive players transfer out of their program. All 3 are playing D1 football now and they STILL took Westfield to Triple OT!!!

Besides, with Westfield, it's about keeping ALL their Coaches & making sure they don't leave with their sweet off season side deals! This year the talent level isn't going to live up to the Coaches efforts.

I'd give the Bulldogs about a 60% chance of getting back to Hampton, same for Smith. But it looks like Manchester has the best 6A team this year. And with 5A Highland Springs having the best chance to 4peat, it looks like Richmond will dominate Virginia High school Football....Again!!!!

Until Westfield has the balls to play the better teams in their OOC schedule, they're only going to be the team who barely beat Smith 3 times. A Tigers team with far fewer financial resources, fewer coaches, No Freshman Team, and fewer students by 25%.

To the Victor go the spoils of their triumph, no matter how hollow it might be.

If Westfield doesn't 4peat, they know all they have to do is throw more $$$ at their program and hire away a few more head coaches. But, their reign will end once enough of their staff finds a way to leave and get a better deal with their competitors.

Frankly, I'm surprised there aren't more private schools developing big football programs in Northern Virginia. Certainly a coach could make big $$$ by leaving a public school program over a private, right?

It pains me to write anything in defense of Westfield because that will only serve to further infuriate and provoke the haters but it has to be done.

These people who keep obsessing about Westfield coaching – implying there is something shady or illegal going on – simply put: you have absolutely NO IDEA what you are talking about. NONE. The statement that Westfield is “about keeping ALL their Coaches” is laughable. Westfield has had significant coaching turnover under Coach Simmons. One small example – all three of their state championships were won with a different defensive coordinator (Everett, Giancola, Shields). Simmons had to replace six coaches last year. And still have not a clue what the constant reference to “side deals” is about.

OOC schedule. Obviously someone has not studied Westfield’s strength of schedule over the past 19 years. It’s consistently ranked among the most difficult in the VSHSL. Stupid. Financial resources. Westfield has no more financial resources than any other big program in Fairfax County. Stupid. Hollow victories. Ridiculous sour grapes.

Sure, this year’s team is not a dominant team. But no one seems to understand that none of them were the last 3 years either. Only have to beat the team you are playing. Of course someone is going to knock them off sooner or later. But your commentary is so uninformed and stupid.

And my math show that Oscar Smith has 16% fewer students that Westfield. But that's not a handicap. When you recruit players it really doesn't matter what your student membership is.

I understand on good source that the 15 coaches thing is because Simmons and the Principal are very worried about maintaining the streak at all costs and so have hired all of these coaches and taken the other well known liberties with letting players skirt the rules. Great example of leadership there guys. Win at all costs, yet that's it. Karma has a way of coming back sooner or later.

Well said. Just like the Russia-Trump collusion story is a hoax, this Westfield and coaches angle is FAKE NEWS. I actually wasted my time to go back and check. In 2011 Westfield had exactly the same number of varsity coaches as they do now in 2018. This is just a made up issue by some sore loser south of here.

They have a great coaching staff, who cares if they were former head coaches.
That's why they win, they take the talent they have and coach it up.

I dont see anyone from the north beating them. Freedom/Woodbridge....could give them a good game. So, I am sure whoever they play from south region, it will be a very good football game. Remember, The past 3 years OS was way more talented and they couldn't beat a well coached Westfield team.

Understand that there are dubious provisions Westfield uses beyond VHSL rules to get in the number of head coaches via other labor categories. Sorry to hear about the cheating, always knew something was not right over there.

What kind of loser posts 7-8 threads in a row on here about Westfield. Must be the same idiot that is always talking about cheating, Dixie cups, skirting the rules, etc., etc.. Dude, get a life, you’re posts are idiotic and a waste of space. Many, myself included, come here to actually talk and read about high school football. So please, go away and find another hobby.

By the way, whomever keeps saying this Westfield team is less talented than the previous 3 title teams, what the hell are you talking about. There might not be as many players in the program, not that many huge kids, but they certainly don’t lack talent. Their offense is the most explosive Simmons has ever had the privelige of coaching. Their defense isn’t too shabby either. If they go shotgun formation and spread opposing defenses for the remainder of the playoffs they have just as much of a chance if not more than anyone in 6A. Those that don’t think so obviously have their opinions clouded by jealousy, hate, or whatever.

What so pathetic is that while the powerhouse teams skirt the rules related to coaching, recruiting, and covering for poor player behavior off the field, other teams are folding. Good for you for winning over and over but you create a mess in the big picture. When there’s no one left to play because the sport has died, what will you do with your staff of HC’s and all your illegal transfers?

If you’re speaking of Westfield here’s a fact for you, the past 3 state championship teams, EVERY player on those 3 teams played freshman football at Westfield. No illegal transfers, no sweeping anything under the rug. They’ve suspended kids as recently as this year for issues that weren’t even cause for suspension just because they keep the program as compliant as any other program, even more given their success. So please, stop with the inuendo because unless you have any facts, which you don’t, it’s all just wasted print!

Please, someone, anyone, get back to talking football and shut these other idiots up!! Or should I say just the one idiot who keeps posting under aliases.

So you talk about Westfield playing a weak schedule even though their opponent rating is higher than Manchester’s? Also, don’t think anyone up North is impressed by Manchester thumping, what, at least 3 4A schools and 2 or 3 5A teams. That’s been the downfall of the beach schools over the past few years. Beating up on the little sisters of the poor doesn’t bode well when you finally play a quality opponent. So please, stop with the trash talk because that schedule is weak as you know what!

Now let’s get back to the next round.
What does SL have to do to beat WF?

Can Madison beat CVHS again? Are Warhawks in Wildcats heads now? So they have their #? Co-game is the week.

WTW able to beat SOCO? For all the talk about coach P squandering the talent, they are still in it.

Can Hayfield beat Freedom W or will it be a blow out? Can HHS defense slow down Eagles offense.

Can Falls Church not embarrass themselves against Stone Bridge. Edison and Lee were quite embarrassing in their games against LOCO schools.

Broad Run vs Tusky, battle of 2 really good QB’s. Co-game of the week.

What does SL have to do to beat WF?

SL doesn't stand a chance this year. They did just fine when it came to the mediocre teams, better than most would have predicted. End of the line for them, bit still, program seems to be solid. Westfield marches on.

Can Madison beat CVHS again? Are Warhawks in Wildcats heads now? So they have their #? Co-game is the week.

Haver to think Madison is a close one. They just seem tougher, mentally and physically. Not really more talented, just a little more rugged.

WTW able to beat SOCO? For all the talk about coach P squandering the talent, they are still in it.

Have to say I have no idea about this one. Leaning towards WTW, but SoCo surprised me with two close wins over LB.

Can Hayfield beat Freedom W or will it be a blow out? Can HHS defense slow down Eagles offense.

Hayfield doesn't have any quality wins. Their best win is a 7 point victory over Robinson and they lost by 30 to South County. How does a 6A team in NoVA play such a ridiculous schedule? Freedom by 40.

Can Falls Church not embarrass themselves against Stone Bridge. Edison and Lee were quite embarrassing in their games against LOCO schools.

Falls Church has one player and Stone Bridge will game plan for him like you wouldn't believe. They will stack the box and spy. If the kid breaks one long one, that will be a morale victory. Aziz has never played a team like this, and this is just an average Stone Bridge team.

Broad Run vs Tusky, battle of 2 really good QB’s. Co-game of the week.

Broad Run is more athletic and talented. Tusky is bigger.Tuscarora needs a monster game from their QB and I just don't think he has the receivers to pull it off. They will try and pound first, but Broad Run is too strong up front. Really hoping to see Broad Run and Stone Bridge play again for the region.

Hope Westfield doesn't take them seriously. Four years ago South Lakes nearly stole one from Westfield forcing them to rally late.

It's not a matter of being in their heads. Madison is just a better team and they will win.

SoCo has a really good defense. And they seem to be gelling a little bit. I say they have a shot at an upset here.

No. Blowout. No.

No. It will be a beatdown.

I like Broad Run to win this one. You can't let a 3 loss team knock you out of the playoffs in the second round. Tuscarora beat SB. I think they are satisfied with their season.

1. Champe @ Tuscarora (-17)
- Don't know too much about either school... Someone fill me in on what I should know.

- Tuscarora won 21-13.

2. Edison @ Broad Run (-42)
- 3-7 team that should not be in the playoffs.

- Broad Run won 57-24. Surprised they gave up that many points to Edison.

3. Hylton @ Freedom - Woodbridge (-28)
- Winner will get past Hayfield or MV.

- Freedom won 42-7.

4. Lake Braddock (-7) @ South County
- Game of the week. Also a rematch from last Saturday. I think LB gets revenge when it matters. All you LB supporters better hope so also.

- South County won another close one, 15-9. Back to back wins against LB & the first time that LB hasn't made it out of the 1st round. Disappointing.

5. Lee @ Stone Bridge (-42)
- Another 3-7 team that doesn't belong in the playoffs.

- Stone Bridge won 56-12. It was 49-6 at the break...

6. Mount Vernon @ Hayfield (-24)
- Hayfield is lucky they didn't get Hylton in round 1 again. (See last year) This year it'll probably be Freedom that ends Hayfield's campaign.

- Hayfield won 33-22. Now it gets real for the Hawks.

7. Patriot @ Madison (-17)
- I wouldn't sleep on Patriot.

- Madison won 35-7. Good win for the Warhawks.

8. Potomac Falls (-14) @ Falls Church

- Falls Church won 52-30. Great win for the Jags. I don't think I've ever seen them go this far in the playoffs. Usually a one and done.

9. Robinson @ Woodson (-21)
- Robinson coming in hot after a huge win last week. Could be a close one...

- Woodson won 29-14. Are they the real deal this year?

10. South Lakes (-5) @ Marshall
- Give me SL in an upset!

- South Lakes won 39-15. Get ready for Westfield...

11. Stonewall Jackson @ Centreville (-21)
- Centreville beat them 44-7 in the season opener, so they are somewhat familiar with each other. Expecting a closer game this time around.

- Centreville won 33-10.

12. Yorktown @ Westfield (-28)
- Westfield transforms into playoff mode...

- And that's what they did. Westfield 49-6.

Here we go...

*** Is anyone in NOVA going to a power 5 D1 school next year? I haven't heard much from a recruiting stand point. I know Camron Kelly (Oscar Smith) has committed to Auburn, I haven't heard much about kids from our area, though.

1. Falls Church @ Stone Bridge (-42)
- This RB from FC is the real deal. Probably the best I've seen since Idreis Augustus. (Lee Class of 2010) Unfortunately, Falls Church hasn't seen a team like Stone Bridge and when SB stuffs the box against FC, they'll soon find out they are in a world of hurt.

2. Hayfield @ Freedom - Woodbridge (-17)
- The hawks don't have Brian Cobbs. I think this actually favors Hayfield because teams don't just have to focus on 1 player. I still think Freedom is going to be too much to handle and will cover.

3. Madison (-7) @ Centreville
- Game of the week. It'll be big for Madison to win in Clifton, and they already beat Centreville once. We shall see...

4. South County @ Woodson (-14)
- Pannoni went from the hot seat, to back-to-back wins against LB, and also ending their season. Woodson has a very good defense. They also have a sophomore QB... Soco, you better get after him and get to him early, otherwise it won't be good. You have to keep the Woodson D on the field and try to get them tired.

5. South Lakes @ Westfield (-28)
- Not much to say here, Bulldogs keep rolling...

6. Tuscarora @ Broad Run (-10)
- Who do you think Stone Bridge is pulling for? A rematch against Tuscarora, or a road contest against Broad Run? I think Broad Run is better and will win this game, and I think they'll be ready for Stone Bridge part 2.

So many changes at Lake Braddock with 2-3 DSAs and Principals and all sorts of investigations, I think Doc held this program together with flying colors.

Accomplishments under Doc:

They were district champs the past 2 years, quite a few all districts players that were developed under Doc that will go on to the next level to play football. 3 playoff games. Lots of fan support. A team that showed Discipline and Significance. He himself was named coach of the year the past 2 years.

I think overall it has been 2 very good years, Congrats boys!!

Best thing Doc did at WTW was to leave while the current crop of seniors were only sophomores and therefore didn’t get tainted by his ineptitude, look at how they are flourishing now without him!

LB kid, Matheny? Is going to UVA. Half of Stonewall defense is going to VT. 2 kids from Flint Hill, Houston and ? were going to UMD. Patriot HS Jakai has every major school offer him not sure if he picked one yet.

SB will have 42-0 by halftime. Sorry Marshall you got big heart but your o-line doesn’t have the same. Great career ends, good luck at next level.

Even with BC Hawks wouldn’t have a chance. Eagles run rough shod over them. Wonder who Hendo cons into coming to HHS next year at QB.

Tough pick, CVHS has lost past 2 against Warhawks and each time they play MHS does a better job of figuring them out. Going with MHS 17-3, they are tougher and tackle better. Really impressed with Counts as coach. Like a young Kyle Simmons.

SOCO I think is the most dangerous team cuz their defense has come alive an speaking at the right time. Defense travels. Stallions in an upset 24-14.

Apathy and injury are Seahawks only hope. They couldn’t do it with those monster teams past 3yrs def not doing it with out them (Mensah, Alston, Kroll,D.Miles, Funaki). WF get it done.

BR has a little too much for Huskies, they’ve had too many let downs and distractions this year. BR by -17

Noah Kim takes $10K in bribe money to throw the game. Or Simmons decides to rest his starters in prep for next week's matchup against Madison/Centreville winner and starts the freshman team instead. Even then, I'm not sure the WF freshmen wouldn't give the Seahawks a good run for their money.

SB in a route 48-0

2. Hayfield @ Freedom - Woodbridge (-17)
- The hawks don't have Brian Cobbs. I think this actually favors Hayfield because teams don't just have to focus on 1 player. I still think Freedom is going to be too much to handle and will cover.

Freedom with the easy win, way to many athletes 34-7

3. Madison (-7) @ Centreville
- Game of the week. It'll be big for Madison to win in Clifton, and they already beat Centreville once. We shall see...

Madison wins in a close game 14-7 Madison is tough and well coached

Woodson beat SoCo early in the year. Woodson Defense is very good and the Offense is much better then the first time they played. Woodson wins 21-7 BTW...how many people thought Woodson would even be here

5. South Lakes @ Westfield (-28)
- Not much to say here, Bulldogs keep rolling...

Westfield in a easy win 42-7 They are the best team in the state until someone beats them

6. Tuscarora @ Broad Run (-10)
- Who do you think Stone Bridge is pulling for? A rematch against Tuscarora, or a road contest against Broad Run? I think Broad Run is better and will win this game, and I think they'll be ready for Stone Bridge part 2.

BR will win

Oh STFU. That team’s momentum started with Doc. They loved him and got pissed when he left. The new coach is a good guy too.

There are so many moving parts to winning at football. Less and less kids come out to play and LB is an example of that. It’s high school football. Why are there so many washed up dads on here complaining?

Doc had several go on to play in college from LB, and another one this year already, plus he has a couple NFL players under his coaching belt. Add in that there’s no cheating, recruiting, or scandalous behavior going on in his program and I’ll be trying to get my kid to him.

So many have something to say about him on here. I see that people love him and wish he had their kids. I’m moving my family this summer.

Falls Church going one-dimensional with Marshall seems to be working all season but that was against teams that aren’t very good! Their season is going to end at the 2nd Round! This will probably be Marshall’s worst performance of the season! I see Stone Bridge crushing FC 49-7, I honestly don’t see FC having a chance here! You can tell FC has no idea what they’re getting into because they never played SB before!

Why all this talk about Lake Braddock and their football coach, they are not in the playoffs and really haven't been a relevant football program in 2 years.

If your going talk about football programs start with:

Westfield: 11-0 3 time State Champs.

Madison: 9-2 Tough hardnose program who plays fundamental football

Woodson: 10-1 Cinderella story of the year, a program who hasn't had a winning season in 10 years

I don’t know what’s so special about SB! They don’t have anyone even close to Marshall’s level. He runs for 300+ yards EVERY WEEK. SB might be the ones who have “no idea what they’re getting into “. How could FC win the last 7 games IN A ROW and didn’t play ANYBODY good?! What a hater.

Your response shows you live in the microcosm that is FC football, lower tier. easily one of the worst districts in the FFX/LC/PW area. Their opponents are, generally speaking, terrible.

Yep. And don't forget Freedom W: 10-1. A great senior RB and big physical defense.

SB just has way more talent. Blowout, but no cover.

Freedom has more talent and I don’t trust Hayfield’s schedule. Freedom covers.

SoCo has improved a lot since their last meeting, but Woodson has improved by more. Woodson covers.

Not sure BR is the sure win everyone thinks.

Tusky didn’t have their regular QB in their first meet up and that game was called for rain after waiting for 2 hours and the rest played on Saturday. I think if Tusky has been able to come out after 1/2 time adjustments there might have been a different ending. Granted Tusky seems to start slow so finishing on Sat didn’t allow them to get in their rhythm. None the less it should be a good game.

Only wish the cheaters at SB didn’t have a chance to move on.

The best team FC played this year was South Lakes and got beat 28-0, the rest of teams they played Lee , Justice, Edison, Wakefield Herndon Marshall were horrible. These are all lower tier teams, who could not compete with the Westfields Centreville, Madison, Hayfield, Woodson. SB will blow FC out by 50, if they want.

Simmer down Doc or staff member. Quit making excuses you pussy. Why the fuck you on here making excuses for him, talk about washed up, you’re not even a “has been” you’re a “never was” so go F yourself you pathetic Doc apologist. Clean it up, little nasty mouth boy. Your mom raised you better and if not, your coach would smack you in the mouth got your language and your tone. Let me guess who you play for? Nevermind, your mom is calling you for dinner. Come back when you can add something constructive or at least clean. Your language shows your age!

You probably won’t ready this until tomorrow since you’ve eaten dinner (5pm) and probably in bed already. Why is an old timer like u on FU anyways, must’ve clicked on wrong button this isn’t AARP site.

How lucky is SB that they draw FC & not Tusky.

So SB is going to win, that isn't in doubt. But this isn't the same team that lost to SL. The offense is completely different, and they have made a number of changes on defense. All of SL 28 points, along with most other points given up early in the season, we scored on big pass plays. They've fixed some of those problems, but are still vulnerable to big plays. Their qb is just good enough to take some pressure off Marshall, which results hm getting a little more room to run. SB should dominate, unless they read and believe everything written on this board. If that happens it will be a game.

Dude, its not going to be close, SB will win by 50.
FC can not compete with the big boys, plain and simple.

You can go ahead and believe all the hype your coaches are telling you, but once you get on the field, you will see they were just lying to you.

Doc knew this 2 years ago. He said this is going to be the most talented class Woodson has had. That's why he started developing them.

Yeah right, which is why he left. Stupid! His leaving enabled those kids not to be infected with his loser mentality. His stench of mediocrity. Instead they played tough, didn’t get scared to get off a bus when they see black coach or black kids like Doc did last year against Woodbridge.

FC has always been all hype and the coaches tell them that beating the lowest tier teams is good! SL was the only real team they played this season until now! SB is tougher than SL! Did you see what they did to Lake Braddock and Madison this season! Having the best running back in DC isn’t going to beat SB! FC has no idea what they’re up against! I say there’s no point in even playing this game because FC has absolutely no chance to win this! You might as well send Stone Bridge into the Region Final right now!

So what if I am an FC graduate! Why am I supposed to be a fan of them that’s like saying you have to be a Cowboys fan because you’re from Dallas! I think the spirit at FC is annoying and what makes StoneBridge special is that they have gone to the State Final 7 times and got a State Title in 2007! They’ve gotten 8 Region titles, 5 perfect 10-0 regular seasons and 11 District Titles all since 2005! They still have their head coach from first opening in 2000 and every year since 2002 they’ve gotten a winning record and at least one playoff win every year! Hope the Jags like getting crushed because they ain’t gonna win this! Ha ha ha!

It doesn’t matter how talented FC’s offense is or how strong their defense is! SB is to powerful so don’t even try! If FC seriously believes they can beat one of the best in the State then that proves how delusional they are, there’s no point in putting up a fight because they can’t beat SB

What coaching changes should we expect?
Openings- West Potomac, T. C. , South County (despite winning)?
Who’s out there that could take over one of these programs? Westfield assistants? Flint Hill assistants? Small school coaches seeking bigger opportunities?

I very much doubt any of those 3 schools will change coaches unless the head coach wants to leave.

I doubt any Westfield coaches will want to leave . There is a chance that job might be open two years from now. Everyone will want that position.

Blair is the only suitable replacement for Simmons. May happen sooner than later. Either Simmons takes a college position that suits him or he steps down if they 4peat. Def after next season.

Get real - he's not leaving Westfield before his kids graduate from the school. But after that... he could pretty much name his price.

I have heard there is a 50/50 chance that WP coach is let go. I have also heard that TC coach is looking to leave but that was also said last year so maybe just a repeat rumor. Have heard nothing about SoCo. What are some other possible schools that will replace cosch?

They have a good young Soph QB and talent around him. Underachieved past 3yrs. Threw the mall too much. Not physical enough considering the size they have up front.

Count Oakton HC in. Either is Much better gig than OHS
Curry might have an eye on either, esp if you compare the rosters.
Panoni if he gets bounced from SC.
Aziz would be smart to leave FC

Coach Aziz is my bud! He’s one of the few people on the team with any common sense and that is a great sport! I don’t even know what you saw but I wasn’t even in the stands, I was only there for the end of the 4th quarter and I was wearing an all black shirt! Now either your blind or just trying to accuse me of something I did not do!

I heard Poythress, ex LB coach is looking at Battlefield, that would make things interesting for that conference. A big program that could dominant the state for the next 5-10 years, with the right coach.

Agreed. Poythress could do some major damage with that kind of program. That guy knows his football and is a proven commodity. Battlefield and Patriot are both under-performing right now.

With all the talent in that program, Battlefield would not touch Doc, he took a top 5 program at Braddock and turned it to mediocre.

I think all the coaches in this region were happy he got the Braddock job.

Best game of 2nd rd. Wildcats vs Warhawks. Who you got and why?
Warhawks just physically tougher than Wildcats. Wildcats better athletes. Going with Warhawks by 6. They have a swagger that’s missing from Wildcats.

Madison is a more physical team at this point for sure. Walker and Finney are every bit as good athletes as anyone at Centreville. I expect Madison to pull this one out in the 3-10 point range. Although it does worry me a bit how Madison completely rolled over for South Lakes in the second round last year. They were a better team than South Lakes but they didn't show.

Think it comes down to QB play. Which one can make the bigger play and avoid costly turnovers. Can Presley out duel the combo of Berry & Yates? Both teams will try to stop the other’s primary WR weapon in Kalin and Finney so can the next guy step up, Madison’s did last week for a big game, does Centreville have a #2 WR that will step up?
