Champs won earlier matchup. I think Huskies get them 2nd time around.

Edison does not belong and is an embarrassment to FCPS football.

Was really hoping they’d be facing MV & Hayfield notneach other in the 1st round.
Have to go with FW.

Tough to beat a team twice let alone the very next game. Be the closest game in scoring wise. Soco by 2.

> 5. Lee @ Stone Bridge (-42)

Another embarrassing representation of FCPS football.

Both teams lucky not playing FW or Hylton cuz they’d both would lose. It will go with Hayfield in rematch.

> 7. Patriot @ Madison (-17)

Co-game is the week. Patriot has really good size up front, can Madison play their physical game against Jakai & co? Maybe, Madison by 6

Marshall runs for 200yds in a upset. Jags by 9

> 9. Robinson @ Woodson (-21)

Rams in an upset. -6

> 10. South Lakes (-5) @ Marshall

SL winning is not an upset. Either way, winner gets WF.

> 11. Stonewall Jackson @ Centreville (-21)

Wildcats have not been same since they lost Price for the year due to injury. SJ in an upset. -7

> 12. Yorktown @ Westfield (-28)

Bulldogs offense needs to knock some rust off. Haven’t played much since Oakton 1-qtr for starters. WPO - first half in rain and Tilly for a half before rain and wind affected their game plan. Need to come out fast to prepare for later rds of playoffs.

I think she has named herself LBSS spokeswoman, Gridiron Gang leader, Team Mom of the year, and this is according to all the football parents that like to gossip so stop acting all high and mighty. Nothing to be jealous about.

I really don't understand the anger towards her. She's done nothing but look out for the well being of EVERY member of that team and attendee of the school for that matter. I don't think you'd be so judgemental if you needed something for your child and you had her lobbying for it in your corner. For all the talk out there now about bullying and harassing others I would think the last place I'd see or read such childish trash talk would be on a parents forum! Such a sad example for our young children. Grow up... your child is in HS, ...not you. Time to start acting like an adult. If you have a real issue with her, call hedirectly

Here is the part I really don't understand. Why do you care how much she does for the team? Does it bother you that she cheers loudly for your son out on that field? Does it bother you that she does countless things for those players and that school out of the goodness of her heart? While the attack on her is just ridiculous, the fact that you chose to comment on her son just makes me so mad!! Whether a child is the smartest or the dumbest in the class is irrelevant and the fact that you chose AS A PARENT to pick on another mother and their child is just so low. If you think your child is such a superstar and this program isn't great..... then MOVE!

Power points explained...

I was also puzzled by Falls Church's ability to outpoint two superior teams in Tuscarora and Champe. A closer look....

Falls Church definitely benefited from playing so many D6 teams, as they received 26 points for every win plus two additional rider points for every victory those 6A schools have on the season, if Falls Church beat them. Case in point - Falls Church just received 40 points for their win over a very average Justice team, who managed 7 wins over some of the worst competition in the area.

Broad Run, Stone Bridge, Tuscarora, and Champe are four outstanding teams in the same district. That means that they all play Freedom, Rock Ridge, Briar Woods, and Potomac Falls. Winless Freedom and one win Rock Ridge kill power points for the top teams.

Falls Church cleaned up by beating Justice and also Marshall. Look at Calpreps - - they have Champe and Tuscarora ranked 10th and 11th in the state in 5A, and Falls Church 33rd! But FC did better in their scheduling and accruing power points,

Great job, Mickey! If you didn't pry away that Cole kid from Oakton (# 3) and that HUnter Peyton kid from Rock Ridge (# 9), you would have lost by 20 against your cross-town rivals!

Warning to all coach’s, keep an eye on your Soph or Jr QB’s, make sure you know where they are at all times cuz Mickey is on the prowl. Desperate about next year.

SB isn’t the only school desperate for a QB next year. We have no one in the pipeline at Centreville. I couldn’t tell you who the back up is or who the starter on JV is and my kid is on the varsity team. If Egbers ever went down we’d go Wildcat with Wright. We are so screwed.

No worries. I hear they are already talking to some kids out of state. Won't be a local QB this time.

It’s just one pissy parent jealous and mad at someone everyone loves. The boys and coaches need and rely on this woman and she’s being harassed on here?

The team has a nickname for her. Her jersey collection is all gifts from the boys. This other ONE poster is mad about that? She’s mad at the wrong person and for no reason.

Maybe she takes her sophomore and gossip and transfers to another school.

It's a result of the size of the regions here. With 8 teams getting in from regions of 17-18, it's far more competitive in 6A around here than the typical regions of 12-14 teams.

Thanks for all the help with the bracket info!

Is Falls Church good? Who will win that one?

Looks like BR and SB win and move on for sure.

Are Tusky and JC an even match?

Next round, could Tusky or JC beat BR?

Could SB beat BR in a rematch?

Calling for rain on Fri again, Thurs looks like the best night of the week, think games will be moved?

Falls Church is going to crush Potomac Falls. Their defense is vastly improved from the first of the year. If they were playing like this early in the season, they'd be 9-1. And PF can't stop the Marshall kid.

They’ve bragged about how they’ve illegally built their program and should have to surrender every win in which illegal transfer players dressed out. It’s a poor way to win and it only builds man egos. Those poor players think they’re so good when it’s killing the whole program overall.

I don’t think a head coach should be able to hire his son either and that one has hired two? I’m what other field is that a legal hiring practice?

Chantilly will be a great team next year as they will have the best Offensive Lineman in the district such as Andres Sagustume and Jack Kinerney. A explosion running back in Pierre Johnson. As well as athletes on defense such as Carlex Teimeni and Eric Kwon. Curry and Rowley have a great scheme that are bound to work on teams that think they can win based on talent alone. Chargers would be in the playoffs if not for horrible refs in their games against West Po and Hayfield. Expext the Chargers to make a deep run in the playoffs next year.

Carmax, really, REALLY? PJ looks like a smurf. Who in the blue blazes are the other jabroni’s. Your class of 2020 will never,EVER see post season play. Your QB & RB are gone and their back ups behind them are nowhere near as good. You will have a chance for playoffs when your class of 2023 become JR’s. Until then next year 3-7.

Curry’s taking too many scoops of pre-work out again. Bro put the shaker down and step away from the keyboard.

I don't think much of Chantilly's chances, but using the WestPo game as evidence is BS, WestPo suffered some season ending injuries that ruined their season - and their record - they were healthy when they played Chantilly.

Doesn’t matter, they have a horrible passing game & no WR’s. Poor mans Robinson Rams.

Of course in real life Tuscarora and Champe both played much tougher schedules than Falls Church, but the point system is easily gamed.

Tusky SB BR are the only good teams in that division, JC is decen, rest stink, pretty much like every other division in NOVA, 3 good teams rest stink.

I'm gonna say it...Justice was served. They weren't one of the 8 best teams in their region and they weren't even the best 7-3 team to miss the playoffs in the region.

Champe won the regular season game, probably a letdown for Tusky after beating Stone Bridge, but have to pick Champe to cover.

Rescheduled for 6:00 on Thursday and the Edison fans can start heading home by 6:30.

Freedom looking to avenge last year's playoff loss. Hylton's defense seems to be good recently so I'll take the Bulldogs and the points.

Toss-up so take SoCo.

Stone Bridge.

Hayfield with the close cover.

I thought Patriot would take a bigger step forward this year. Madison shuts them down and covers.

> 8. Potomac Falls (-14) @ Falls Church

No idea. Falls Church's turnaround was mostly due to the awfulness of their district, but Potomac Falls didn't beat anyone either. When in doubt pick against the National District team.

Robinson's 43 minute time of possession will get them the cover.

South Lakes easy.

Stonewall has improved and Centreville's offense is sputtering, give me the points.

Yorktown has won 14 games the last two years and not a single one was against a team that finished with a winning record. Westfield covers by the middle of the third quarter.

Well he turned a 4 win team into a zero win team so if he can just get them back to an average Chantilly year before he took over they make the playoffs. And with the new alignment, that should happen.

They all recruit. Is there a clean team out there? Play with your own players. All schools are members of the VHSL. All schools pay to be in the VHSL. VHSL requests all schools to be honorable and play by the rules. They ask for schools to turn themselves in if there has been an issue. That’s not happening and the higher ups in Central Offices are afraid of negative pub. Not gonna call a school out.

The Patriot district was already announced. Coach Doc of Lake Braddock won Coach of the Year. He has done an outstanding job in turning that program around and getting it going in the right direction. Well deserved

I wonder how this player and his dad feel about the transfer now? He's sitting on the outside watching Lake Braddock in the playoffs while Woodbridge is done for the season. Only goes to show that you should just play where you live and make the best of it.

Doc did NOT win coach of the year. It was Woodson’s coach. Quit trying to hype this dude up. He got smashed 70-3 by SB and lost badly to WF. He also lost to SoCo. He is far from being the best coach or having the best coaching staff in state. Quit the bullshit, troll. Next time someone talks about Doc being the best coach in the state, he better win a state title(s).

Should’ve been Van Acker. Amazing job going 9-1 in his 2nd year. Complete opposite of what Doc has done. Acker has improved WTW football. You could argue Doc has regressed LB football. And Pannoni, he’s squandered talent year after year 6-4 def does not deserve it.

Hi,

Can someone please help me understand the difference between rule 9-4-1 - Fighting, vs. 9-4-7 Defensive player slap to the head

Why would an open handed slap and push to the head to be called as a fighting penalty instead of utilizing penalty 9-4-7?

Did this happen before or after a whistle? I.e. was the play over?

The ref must have determined that the head slap was not any sort of football move or technique but was intended as the equivalent of punch. We don't know the context as to if there had been something going on during previous plays or even during this play. If this was a one-time isolated swim move gone awry it probably shouldn't have been a fighting penalty.

Thanks - I will try to give a a run down. The interaction occurred between offensive and defensive lineman.

In previous plays the O lineman is seen throwing the D lineman on top of a pile after the play has ended; as d-lineman is getting up, o-lineman pushes him back down, and gets in his face (assumed to be trash talking). O lineman's teammate pulls him away and the official is seen saying something to him quickly.

Next play - O lineman "throws" D lineman to the ground - close to whistle unsure if just before or just after - no biggie, its football. O lineman does not put his hand out to help D lineman up, instead he bends over to get in his face again. D lineman gets up and walks to his spot - O lineman is kicking D lineman's feet and ankles the whole time the D lineman is walking back to his spot. O lineman is walking aggressively behind him - neck out and smack talking to his back.

a few plays occur where D lineman breaks O lineman's hold and runs to the ball/play, no issues.

8th play of the game - O lineman and D lineman holding their positions. O lineman has a good hold on D lineman and his jersey, they are doing their thing...D lineman's hands are getting higher on O lineman as he is trying to break the block. O lineman continues his strong grasp of D lineman jersey. D lineman is getting more aggressive to break the hold and makes contact with his right forearm just under O lineman's helmet causing it to fly off. O lineman continues to grasp D lineman's jersey after the helmet came off; neither stopped their play and the ball was still in play. D lineman then comes up with right hand and missing O lineman's shoulder contacts O lineman in the face with open palm, O lineman releases his grasp of D lineman's jersey and the D lineman turns and walks away.

As D lineman is walking away the flag is thrown and he is assessed a penalty for the helmet and then ejected for fighting.

Ugh I hope that can be read sensibly. I would share the video but I don't want to post it publicly.

thank you

Three comments here: Assuming the refs are doing their job and see all of this, they failed to control the situation. Never should have gotten this far.
Second, this is a perfect example of the retaliator gets caught. Third, the helmet was off, so I think it is probably fair to rule it fighting.

You have described the context quite well. My only comment would be that this is a judgement call by the refs and it should be within their purview to penalize and eject as they see fit to maintain control of the game. Might not be fair in every case but no one is perfect. Don't know why the fighting rule was applied here. After all, a player can be ejected for a flagrant slap to the head. But I wasn't there. Tough break I guess.

Thank you both for your responses!

So the official could have called either penalty?

It's up to him if he wants to call it fighting?

It does not matter that the D lineman did not "throw" or "swing" a punch - or that is was open handed, so not a punch?

It does not matter that the D lineman walked away as soon as he was released, instead of continuing to engage, which I would then see as fighting.

What should the D lineman have done when the O lineman's helmet came off - should he have dropped his arms to the side and let the O lineman do whatever he wants?

The available appeal process did not work, as our team replays this team in the playoff tonight :-(

There doesn't appear to be any other recourse - I have seen injunctions issued by courts, would any of you consider going that route for this call?

With all the talent LB has, how are they one and done in the playoffs? I mean really, they finish the season 7-4! 2 straight losses to SoCo.

They have at least 2 legitimate D1 players may be more, with a lot of surrounding talent. They have a very good young QB a speedy RB, very strong O-line, good receivers and a talented defense.

I have watched LB football for the last 12-15 years, this year and last years team had as good of talent as most of the those teams, yet they still struggled.

I dont think anyone expected them to beat Westfield and go to the state title game, but expectations had to be a deep playoff run!

What a disappointment for the players whose high school football careers ended a lot sooner then expected

For starters, that Marshall kid is the best football player in NOVA. If you haven't seen him, you don't understand just how good he is. Never seen a kid so hard to tackle with such explosiveness.

Second, FC has quite a bit of talent, and a great strength program. It's a misnomer that they can't play with most LoCo teams. If they can get past that psychologically, they will be competitive next week.

Their Soph class may be one of the most talented they have ever had at the school. They are going to make some noise in 6A over the next two years.

Stone Bridge’s players are bigger and definitely more talented than FC’s! I think Stone Bridge is going to crush FC like 49-14! I think Stone Bridge will actually be able to stop that Marshall kid’s plays, even he’s going to have trouble and a hard time against this team!

Football is a team game. I hope FC can throw the ball because if Marshall is all they have he won't reach 50 yards rushing. Can't be one-dimensional against a team like SB.

All, pretty good games. Let the cream come to the top so Westfield can beat them. But the Northern Region Champ isn't gonna win the State Title this year. Y'all cant win em all......, right?

And who are your leading candidates to win this year?

Westfield is unbeatable, indomitable - the best in Virginia, the best in the US, the best in the world. Have you tried the Mahi Mahi Mango cilantro tacos at the food stand at the home games this year? I, I believe, I believe that we, I believe that we are, I believe that we are the best in the world.......!!!!!! My kids go there and that is what they all know deep down and that is why they will be so successful in their lives after Westfield.

God bless Westfield!!!!!!!

Lighten up Frances - why do you think everyone hates Westfield? Not because of their winning, but because of pompous fans and students and coaches (how many head coaches do you have now - 15?)

The problem with Madison is that it's in Vienna. Vienna is the shithole of the county now. They have no talent anymore as all the rich, white people have fled West and are being replaced by nationalities that don't have the mass, speed or disposition to play American football. They have a great talent pool for soccer tho.

That's probably the dumbest thing I've read on here lately. Have you ever been to a home Madison football game, pretty much mostly white folks, not to sound racist. This Madison team reminds me of a typical Westfield team, smart, athletic, play hard, and play as a team. I think the high school team that resembles your description would be Centreville more than Madison. By the way, Madison kicks the you know what out of Centreville come Friday night.

South Lakes v Westfield:
Westfield way to strong for SL, Westfield with the easy win. SL has had a much better season then people thought they would

Madison v Centreville:
Madison with the upset. Centreville has not played well since the Westfield game

South County v Woodson:
Woodson with the win, they have played well all season. Offense averages 30 a game and defense is very good. No one thought they would be here

Hayfield v Freedom/Woodbridge:

Freedom with the win. Hayfield has had a good season, but Freedom will be to much for them to handle

Lighten up Frankie - do you really think that was a Westfield booster? It's the Centreville troll that's been trolling for the last 4 years.

Where are all the Doc trolls?

2 seasons now under this staff at LB 8-4 and 7-4 I would say that is pretty mediocre for a program that had averaged 10-11 wins per season the last 10 years. No one was looking for state titles since they haven't won any in football, but to regress like they have each year, is not acceptable

Best staff in the state???? Hardly!!! They were maybe 3rd 4th best in the District

Sounds like this staff is all hype and no action!!!

Well, it's hardly going to be an upset. Madison has already clearly demonstrated they are the better team and I am 100% confident they will defeat Centreville again.

You're kidding, must be. Three of the four top teams in the Southern Region will trounce the Bulldogs. Both Manchester & Colonial Forge won't have a problem with the Bulldogs. Each of them will have to get past Smith which is no easy task. Ocean Lakes is the only team which Westfield would have a chance against.

Sorry Bulldog boosters & fans but it's just not happening in 2018. Heck, the winner of the Madison vs Centreville game could very well end your season if the favorable ref crew doesn't call that game again!

You sound like the same broken record all the Westfield doubters have been spouting for the past several years. Each season is "the Bulldogs are too small, they lost too many players, they just can't compete with the better teams".

Think they've proven all the doubters wrong, as they've done up to this point this season. Before the season began many on this board said their reign had come to an end.

Don't get me wrong, they may very well lose at some point, it's bound to happen, all streaks come to an end. But I think any game they play in, with the play-makers they have, and that coaching staff, they have every bit of chance to win this year.

Please stop using that "Coaches" name too, you're about as much a coach as I am a king. Anyone who watched the Centreville game, which I assume you're referring to about "favorable" calls, will tell you they were all spot on. Plus, Westfield had far more penalties called against them Centreville did. When you accumulate 5 first downs and 132 yards of offense in a game you're going to lose.

The other statement you made about Westfield getting "trounced" also proves you're no coach but possibly a homer fan of a rival of the Bulldogs. It's a very rare game in which Westfield gets trounced, much in part due to their coaching staff. They were outmatched the last 3 state title games, not only did they not get trounced but came out victorious.

You started out with a reasonable response, then shot yourself in the foot with your last comment. You have little idea what you are talking about if you blame the refs for the CV loss against WF. And just to educate you, you are correct with the three teams from the South that are probably the top 3 picks to reach the state final from that side of the bracket, but you forgot about Freedom PW from the Occoquan. Then you topped it off with your asinine statement about those three teams from the South having "no problem with the Bulldogs" because it shows just how little you know about VA HS football, fool.

I LOVE it, self doubt is the seed of eventual failure. Yes, Westfield would get trounced by Manchester. They've recruited several of the best players in Richmond and with Notre Dame commit, Clark at QB, Kim will only be able to sit on the sidelines in awh of the bigger, stronger opponent. At least he doesn't need 12 coaches to spoon feed perfect plays to him. Westfield's success is all about their coaches and their side deals!

It has been a while since there was a Thanksgiving Breakfast at Lake Braddock. Not too long ago it was a regular part of the season, but now under the turn around specialist, .....no more. Maybe the LBSS parents can lend their waffle irons and pancake griddles to the Woodson parents. The team Doc (the high Character guy that he is) walked away from at the last minute with his entire coaching staff is still playing and Doc is washing uniforms and looking forward to building more character next year because it is not a football program he is building.

Blah, blah, blah, heard it all before. Who cares who Manchester recruited. You don’t think the past 3 Oscar Smith teams weren’t heavily recruited as well you dope. Ever hear of Cam Kelly, he’s probably the best player in the state. Guess what, his team still lost!
