That is my understanding. It would make sense to deny the change based on equity and balanced regions, but the VHSL is not always reasonable. When it involves making money (playoff gate receipts) or spending it (school concerns about travel time/cost) they are generally accommodating of the request(s).

I'm fairly confident in my bracket although it did take predicting the outcome of approx. 24 games.

Could you be a little more specific on what's wrong with my brackets?

What happened to SB game? That’s 2 losses, shocking after Mickey and his bold proclamation that this was his best team ever during media day this past summer. Would love to read a game recap of last nights game.

Be tragic to see rd.2 of this. So hoping your predictions don’t come true. Marshall is undeserving of being #4 let alone being in the playoffs when a Woodbridge team will be out (I know they are different regions) but still.

I am not vxxne and the rider points will determine all of this, but 1) even if MAD beats CV there is a chance CV will slightly outpoint them to retain #2; 2) if CV beats MAD, Marshall may be the #3 and MAD the #4; 3) unless more than a few other people are mistaken, SL cannot jump to #3 and will almost assuredly remain #5 (and Marshall already won); 4) similarly to SL, I don't think PAT can get to #4 since Marshall won last night-and PAT still has to beat Battlefield.

Patriot defeated Battlefield last night.

My predictions include the results of last night’s Games:

Broad Run beat Stone Bridge
Champe beat Freedom
Freedom beat Colgan
Hylton beat Forest Park
Patriot beat Battlefield
Marshall beat Wakefield
Tuscarora beat Potomac Falls
Woodbridge beat Gar-field
Woodson beat Fairfax
Brooke Point beat River bend
Eastern View beat King George
Kettle Run beat James Wood
Madison County beat George Mason
Woodgrove beat Loudoun Valley

Of the remaining 24 games I predicted (some don’t affect the final standings, but I predicted all of them), I believe there are only 4 that results are “questionable.”

One “too close to call”: Centerville vs. Madison – I picked Centerville
Three potential upsets, TC/Ann, FC/Justice and LB/SC. I picked TC, FC and LB.

My bracket is based on yesterday’s results and these predictions. If I am wrong on any one of the above, the teams in each bracket do not change, but some team’s places change.

I did not attempt to run the 12 other possible W/L combinations of these four games. I admit that if I’m wrong on two or more of the above games then there is potential that one of the teams may be displaced from the bracket and there will be many teams’ place changes.

Obviously if I’m wrong on any of the other 20 “sure” games, my bracket may fall apart quickly.

I was told that Centreville had to ways to the #2 seed.

First, beat Madison
Second, a SB loss, a champe win, and a SL win. This way would make the centreville vs madison outcome irrelevant. Power points take over here.

Based on my above explanation:
If Annandale wins then Marshall and Patriot switch places
If Madison wins they go to third and Patriot, Marshall, and South Lakes each drop one place
If Justice wins Patriot and South Lakes switch places.
If South County wins Patriot and South Lakes switch places and Madison and Marshall switch places.
I'm not sure what you mean that other people are mistaken but South Lakes is 3rd in 2 of the 5 most likely scenarios, and 4th in the other 3 - what makes them drop to 5?

That is correct, BTW Champe won and SB lost yesterday so in your scenario they just need SL to beat Herndon. In the 2nd case, should SL lose, there are actually two possible outcomes but Madison is 2nd in both.

WNL losses, they are tied in PP and Madison wins Head to Head tie-breaker
WNL wins, Madison wins in PP 31.6 to 31.4.

Nothing extraordinary happened. Broad Run just flat out beat them. Stone Bridge made a rally to try and come back but Broad Run defense stopped them. In fact, Broad Run pretty much shut down the SB offense most of the game. Broad Run is a damn good team.

PWCO rankings a mess. You nailed LOCO
FXCO you got 1 right. If this was a test you failed.

C'mon man. FW>Pat>Battlefield is right on. Just bought the hype on Bridge and missed Hylton. We'll see after tonight but FXCO is completely accurate as of game-time in my opinion.

Indeed they did. They played as tough and determined a game as anyone Westfield has played this entire season. And they didn't quit - played till the last second. Nice job.

Chantilly played their hearts out, just couldn’t pull it off. When you’re one dimensional it doesn’t boad well. WF better get their heads out if their asses come next week. Their game plan this evening was horrendous. Before everyone gets on here about pounding the ball on WF they played a good deal of their backups for half of the game on defense. Didn’t quite get that unless Simmons didn’t figure he had anything to lose. Not sure the point breakdown but I assume with the way WF coached toinight they were assured they’d be #1 seed even if they managed to lose against Chantilly which is what it looked liked they tried their best to do.

You got LB wrong, it’s WTW which I called this summer. Knew they would be good this year.

Don’t know about that, wishful thinking. Plus, # 6 scored 2 TD’s, don’t think #2 or #17 scored at all.

2&17 set up big pass plays first half none 2nd half. WF run offense less than impressive. Oline run blocking is the shits! Lucky you have 2,10,17. Won’t be like that next year. Believe that. We will WIN.

What game did you watch, one long pass to #2, don’t know if #17 even caught a ball. Your defense couldn’t tackle #6 who’s not even a running back, he’s the starting DT and TE. Next year WF’s O-line will be huge, look at their Freshman team. Chantilly won’t be anything other than a doormat just like this year.

No kidding yes. Rain is putting it mildly. When that fierce swirling wind and torrential downpour started it was impossible to throw the ball. Madison-Centreville also had no scoring in the second half.

I don't know about this. Looking at the appeals and the vast majority denied, it appears the committee took a very heavy hand. Langley's enrollment is down, but they wanted to keep playing 6A given that every other school here does and it was rejected.

You mean the freshman team Chantilly beat 40-20 on Thursday night? That freshman team?
The truth is Chantilly is improving. Next season the Concorde will be a buzzsaw once again with four out of the five games basically being playoff games. It’s only good for the district and the area. You don’t want bad football and doormat teams. How awesome was this area from 1998-2012? So much excitement it was anyone’s season back then.

Sorry but Chantilly will still be horrible next year 3-7. Your JV and Soph kids suck. Now when the Fr team that beat WF Fr team become jrs and srs then you will be a threat in the Concorde. Your QB and RB are gone, what you have behind them stink or are tiny. Curry had them boys inspired (think he shared his pre-workout scoops with the team) to play last night but they are still oceans apart in talent. Jr kids you have now are soft esp #78.

What happened to SB game? That’s 2 losses, shocking after Mickey and his bold
proclamation that this was his best team ever during media day this past
summer. Would love to read a game recap of last nights game."

I am no Mickey Thompson fan, but here is what I consider to be an honest recap of the game last night.

Stone Bridge got the ball first and hit a nice long pass down to the Broad Run 20.
Note that the SB quarterback, who has a strong arm, threw it long and the receiver made a nice play getting behind the coverage. The note is the QB is not at all accurate and hasn't ever been.
A SB run got down inside the 10 but was called back for holding. Another note - SB was called for 11 (Seriously, 11!) holds against Tuscarora and their offensive line technique looks like they were taught to cheat. This officiating crew more than let the kids play so there weren't as many calls as their could have been or should have been. That is the difference this year. Mickey's lineman are not nearly as good as in the past. They simply could not run that silly power single-wing consistently against Broad Run, although #25 got loose on 2nd and 31 for a touchdown and the early lead.

Broad Run answered and what became apparent is that if BR QB was given any amount of time, kids were open and he delivered strikes. That team has a half-dozen receivers so pick your poison.

When things looked to be going Broad Run's way, an ill-advised middle screen was tipped and returned for a touchdown. Nice, athletic play by a big strong sophomore from SB. More unbelievably, the SB kid is a home grown product!

Broad Run went down the field once again and tied the score at 14 before halftime.

Broad Run pretty much owned the 3rd quarter and went up 26-14 into the 4th. SB made some really nice plays on a long drive. I think they converted two fourth downs and two third downs. The kid from Oakton looked to be Stone Bridge's best player all night and made several key plays to cut the lead to six.

Credit to BR coaches. Up by 6 with 4 minutes to go and they didn't play it safe. High percentage pass was completed, but there was a key drop and they had to punt. horrible punt gave SB the ball in BR territory.

SB converted once, but on 4th and 7 they once again wet to the Oakton kid and BR was waiting for it.

BR still needed a first down to run out the clock, but Mickey only had one timeout because he just uses them up for any little reason and never has them at the end of a close game when he needs them.

BR running back busted a tackle and they went into victory formation.

2nd loss for SB in three years to BR and Tusky. Once a coaching staff knows how to play the single wing, results are going to be closer.

Couple things were clear to anyone in the stands. Without the kid from Oakton and Rock Ridge's best player, SB is not a threat to BR or Tuscarora this year.
They have plenty of other transfers.

If you don't believe me, watch the replay of the game on Gameday Magazine.

Hysterical interview with the SB QB and the RB from Atlee who transferred last year. Preseason interviews and both talk about all of transfers and "new blood" they had shipped in. They are so arrogant over there they don't even try to hide the fact that they recruit those kids.

With that being said, Stone Bridge somehow has the easiest draw you can imagine in the playoffs, and will cakewalk to the finals of the region against the winner of Tuscarora/Broad Run.

Its not cheating if those players reside in the SB district!!!

SB has a tradition of winning and putting kids to the next level, so parents move their kids to that district to play for SB.

Any school could do the same thing, its very common in Texas Alabama Georgia and a lot of other states as well.

Well I got all the D6 playoff teams correct but place order was bust since I predicted Centerville, Edison and Osbourn Park to win. The Edison mistake also knocked Briarwoods out and allowed Lee in Region 5C.

Occoquan Region:

There are 4 games remaining today - resulting in three possible brackets:

If LB beats SC:
Rob at WTW
SC at LB
Hylton at Freedom
MV at Hayfield

If SC beats LB and Christ Church beats Life Christian:
Rob at WTW
Hylton at Hayfield
MV at Freedom
LB at SC

If SC beats LB and Life Christian beats Christ Church:
Rob at WTW
Hylton at Freedom
MV at Hayfield
LB at SC

Northern Region:

There are 3 games remaining today - resulting in two possible brackets:

Note the games are all the same but the home team for Marshall vs SL is determined by the Ann vs TC game.

If Ann beats TC:
York at Westfield
Jackson at Centreville
Patriot at Madison
Marshall at SL

If TC beats Ann:
York at Westfield
Jackson at Centreville
Patriot at Madison
SL at Marshall

Region 5C

This morning I realized that Rock Ridge and Briar Woods played each other twice and both had a total of 11 games. VHSL only allows 10 games so I'm not sure which 10 games to use for those two teams - however, as far as I can tell it doesn't matter, the bracket is unchanged. There are no remaining games that would change the bracket.

Edison at Broad Run
Lee at Stone Bridge
Potomac Falls at Falls Church
Champe at Tuscarora

Sure. But they were hopelessly outmatched. Simply don't have the talent. The Madison game was actually a much harder fought game. Come on, WF won by 16 points in a monsoon while playing 2nd string players in the second half.

Wow, I would have never thought of that. Do you mean the VHSL website that has a master schedule here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1k2PryaprIBiP8aYYz4m5UQ4JFWp_RoTw, that on page 9 of 34 shows them as playing each other in week 4 and week 11?

Maybe I should have instead checked the Washington Post, for weeks 4 and 11? You know the one that shows Briar Woods beating Rock Ridge 39-3 on 9/14/18 and also shows Rock Ridge beating Briar Woods 60-22 on 11/2/18. According to VHSL they were scheduled twice and according to WAPO they played twice

Of course I checked both of the above sources and others before I posted.

Next time before you tell me to do my research, make sure you do yours.

Doc is more then some score on a football field, he is a mentor to those boys. He is teaching them to be men. That's a lot more then you can say about most of these football coaches, where its more about winning then about the players themselves.

Doc has turned this program around from where it was and has made the community very proud. These young men are respectful to others and are significant.

Best Coaching staff in the state, Absolutely!

What a joke the LB program has become, now you have some mom or coaches wife on here defending the coach for losing.

I am so sick of hearing how this doc guy turned around a program that won 11-12 games and made a deep playoff run for 10 years, into a program who has won 7 or 8 games and 1 and done in the playoffs. Get real not even the best coaching staff in the district.

Listen LB, just because Doc lets your spec Ed kid hang out with the team, that doesn't make him or his staff great coaches. He may be a good guy, but the program is going downhill. They have lost to every team with even a halfway intelligent staff. None of the parents who moved to the school zone so their kids could play for Poythress are happy. A couple of sophomores will leave if JP coaches again somewhere next year. As far as "mentoring" what he really does is coddel the mamas boys on the team to keep the mamas happy. Good dude? Maybe. Good coach? Maybe. Great coach? Now way. Not even close.

Why people bash high school coaches on here is stupid. As if anyone wants that shitty job plus so many people criticize everything that happens.

If I could get my kid to Braddock, I would. Sports is so much more than winning. My son needs football skills plus leadership and mentoring. Show me one kid who doesn’t? Coach Doc and his staff make that happen.

I’d take LB over Stonebridge or any other school in this area any day. That coaching staff is doing it right. You can tell by how his players behave on the field, in the community, and in the school. I know teachers at LB and they say the kids are so much better since he arrived. I wonder what teachers at SOCO say about their athletes.

Most every coach is a mentor to the players, LB just takes it way to far with Doc, to cover for the fact doc and his staff are not very good at coaching football. He hasn't done anything that the other coaches in the region dont do with their players. In addition, why are/were teachers at LB relying on the football coach to control their students? If they cant maintain their class room, maybe they should be teachers. Face it with doc and staff, LB football will always be mediocre at best

And you couldn't do any better then 7-3?

Must be the coaching, look at Westfield, 3 straight State titles and no 5 star players.

PWC always has great athletes, but loses to teams they should beat, because the coaching is better.

Last 2 years had as much or more talent then any of the previous Braddock teams

Last 9 years previous to doc, averaged 8-9 wins per year in the regular season

No playoff game at home for the first time in 8 years

Loses to SB 70-3, the worst loss in LB football history

I typically don't look at individual school's websites, first I don't have the time when compiling PP for the 48 NR schools and secondly, they as a group, are notoriously inaccurate. Thanks to the nice post for RR Parent, I now understand that they did not play in week 11 however, the following sources say they did:

1) VHSL Master Schedule
2) VHSL Week 11 Weekly Scores
3) VHSL Week 11 VHSL Weekly Ratings
4) Washington Post
5) MaxPreps
6) Score Stream
7) VAPreps Scoreboard

I guess the above five organizations are also stupid and lack common sense.

Well school websites are not hard to navigate and are 99% of the time human ran, where as maxpreps, and Washington Post, SCore Stream are autogenerated (and if you notice, even sometimes games that had articles written on them in WP have the wrong score on the schedule part of the website).

Everyone reads this thread! It’s obvious who they are talking about and it’s true! That woman can be so EXTRA at times, acting like she’s the official LB football spokesmom!

Battlefield coach Cox has stepped down. Wouldn’t mind being an asst elsewhere, he was quoted saying in the InsideNova article. What are that chances “elsewhere” is located in Chantilly on Simmons staff? Kinda surprising he is leaving but whoever takes over will be in a good spot, just the sheer numbers of played they have a available if done right could be a force to reckon with.

What other coaches are on hot seat or one foot out the door and ready to split?

If Woodbridge hadn't scheduled both 2-8 Osbourn Park and 1-9 Osbourn, and instead played even a .500 team they would be in.

I don't know what you mean by autogenerated. WaPo requires a "scorekeepers" account (new one established for each school year) for each school for reporting - that's why each week some games have no score, because both school's score keepers failed to enter it. Last week some "official scorekeeper" entered the RR/BW score. Score stream also requires an account to report scores - but anyone can get one so it's easy to spoof. Don't know how maxpreps works.

VHSL requires schools to report their scores, but I don't know the exact process, I assume the DSA's office is responsible for providing VHSL a score report? Each week VHSL is missing some scores (thus not autogenerated) and when they create their weekly ratings, they are always off due to the missing scores. Whatever their process, it is obvious that they got spoofed last week too - see their final ratings - they were off in 5C because they counted the week 11 BW/RR bogus score.

I'm just trying to provide accurate PPs for the northern region. VHSL's official schedule had BR/RR as playing twice and WaPo, Maxpreps, Score Stream and VA Preps all reported the same scores - I knew something was wrong - that's why I mentioned it. However, I didn't know if the right score was week 4 or week 11 or if they in fact played twice (very unusual but not unheard of). Instead of being a dick, calling me stupid and lacking common sense, you could have been like the RR parent that explained that they did not play last week.

This will be my last response to this subject. Have a nice day.

Final week of the regular season! Some teams playing for playoff position, some just playing for pride. I think every major rivalry game should be played on the last week of the regular season. Nonetheless, here we go...

-- Wild week of (wet!) games. Weather messed up some of my spreads, in my bias opinion, and I don't think I've seen games played in weather like that since 2009.

1. Annandale @ T.C. Williams (-15)

- Annandale won 23-7. Great way to finish the season, Atoms!

2. Centreville (-7) @ Madison
- Game of the week. Should be an entertaining match-up, to say the least.

- Madison won 14-0. Centreville has been shut out by both Madison & Westfield. (Note: no points were scored in the 2nd half, when the weather apparently got really bad.

3. Falls Church @ Stuart (-13)
- The Bell Game!

- Falls Church comes out victorious, 31-12. Not only do they win back The Bell, they also knocked out Stuart's playoff chances. Falls Church has to feel great, for JEB... it'll sting for another 365 days.

4. Lake Braddock (-13) @ South County
- Co-Game of the week. Good tune up for the Bruins before the playoffs. Not sure if SoCo makes the playoffs this year..

- South County won 16-14. Close game that was played on Saturday & we get a re-match on Friday!

5. Lee @ Edison (-9)
- Franconia Road bragging rights.

- Lee hammered Edison 48-14.

6. McLean @ Langley (-15)

- Langley won 26-0. Back to Back 0-10 seasons for McLean... Yikes!

7. Oakton @ Hayfield (-45)

- Hayfield won 39-14. Looks like they took it easy on Oakton. The QB that came to Hayfield from Oakton scored a touchdown.

8. South Lakes (-24) @ Herndon
- These schools don't like each other.

- SL won 23-7.

9. Stone Bridge (-10) @ Broad Run
- I can see SB getting upset again, but I think Mickey will have the boys ready. SB should treat this like the 1st round of the Playoffs.

- Broad Run won 26-20. SB better wake up and smell the coffee..

10. Wakefield @ Marshall (-35)

- Marshall won 42-10.

11. Washington-Lee @ Yorktown (-28)
- Yorktown will be the kings of Arlington with a win. Not sure if SL or Yorktown won the district, or if this weeks games decide that...

- Yorktown won 16-7.

12. Woodson (-35) @ Fairfax

- Woodson won 37-0.

13. West Potomac @ Mount Vernon (-14)
- The Battle of Rt. 1. MV looking for their first win against West Potomac since 2006, I think they'll get it too.

- Mount Vernon smashed WP 47-7. Bad year for the Wolverines.

14. West Springfield @ Robinson (-10)
- Robinson has looked bad lately, I'm looking for them to get back on track.

- Thats exactly what they did. Robinson 63-14.

15. Westfield (-40) @ Chantilly

- Westfield won 29-13.

I was off bad last week, going to get back on track this week though! Now it gets real.

*** Note: Stuart finished 7-3 and missed the playoffs in 6A, while 2 3-7 5A teams live to play another week. VHSL needs to address this, or Stuart needs to "schedule tougher teams" See Alabama. I'm also going alphabetically, not based on brackets. Anyway, here we go...

1. Champe @ Tuscarora (-17)
- Don't know too much about either school... Someone fill me in on what I should know.

2. Edison @ Broad Run (-42)
- 3-7 team that should not be in the playoffs.

3. Hylton @ Freedom - Woodbridge (-28)
- Winner will get past Hayfield or MV.

4. Lake Braddock (-7) @ South County
- Game of the week. Also a rematch from last Saturday. I think LB gets revenge when it matters. All you LB supporters better hope so also.

5. Lee @ Stone Bridge (-42)
- Another 3-7 team that doesn't belong in the playoffs.

6. Mount Vernon @ Hayfield (-24)
- Hayfield is lucky they didn't get Hylton in round 1 again. (See last year) This year it'll probably be Freedom that ends Hayfield's campaign.

7. Patriot @ Madison (-17)
- I wouldn't sleep on Patriot.

8. Potomac Falls (-14) @ Falls Church

9. Robinson @ Woodson (-21)
- Robinson coming in hot after a huge win last week. Could be a close one...

10. South Lakes (-5) @ Marshall
- Give me SL in an upset!

11. Stonewall Jackson @ Centreville (-21)
- Centreville beat them 44-7 in the season opener, so they are somewhat familiar with each other. Expecting a closer game this time around.

12. Yorktown @ Westfield (-28)
- Westfield transforms into playoff mode...

Not that suprsing to here... Guff (fat man) from Chantilly used to lurk on here quite a bit before that staff destroyed Oakton and fled to Chantilly.

South Lakes will roll Marshall... won't even be an upset. The fact that GCM gets into the playoffs as such a high seed for playing a shit schedule is disgraceful.

I wish she was the official team spokesmom! She’d be perfect. Do we even have an official team spokesmom? Clearly you’re mad but why at her? What has she done? Nothing. You’re wrong in your anger plus you’re jealous of what she’s been able to do behind the scenes. You don’t know who she is, do you?

You apologize to her if she’s seen this bullshit you’ve posted and beg her to continue what she’s done. Announce your kid’s transfer and stop this. She can be my kid’s team official spokesmom anyday.

I know who YOU are. Enough.

I know it's a FFX site - but have never been in playoffs before - can anyone explain why Falls Church 6-4 is #3, Tuscarora 7-3 is #4, and John Champe 6-4 is #5?

The person who posts this trash is Docs worst enemy because it will be almost impossible to repeat what JP did. That said, is he planning to return to the sideline s? Ranking is based on power points, not W/L percentage. A Class 5 team with a higher W/L% but lower power points played a weaker schedule and/or fewer Class 6 teams. Note: You don't lose any points for playing down one or more classes, but you gain 2 pts (per class), win or lose for playing up one our more classes.

In your example Falls Church played five Class 6 teams, while Tuscarora and Champe only played one each. Concerning schedule strength, using opponent win percentage as the metric, Falls Church's opponents were 59%, Tuscarora's were 49% and Champe's were 52%

So Falls Church has more PP than Tuscarora because they played four more Class 6 teams and a tougher schedule. Tuscarora has more points than Champe because they had the same number of class 6 teams and their extra win offset their slightly weaker schedule.

The final power points for your region are posted above.

Are you incompetent? The seedings are paired highest to lowest to make the bracket, after those matches they play the bracket the way it is.

It's a little bit grayer than you think buddy.

Let's say for some unknown divine reason Yorktown beats Westfield, they're still going to play the winner of Marshall and SL instead of dropping down to play Centreville or Madison.

The only thing that can change is homefield advantage when a lower seed beats a higher one. The higher seed always has homefield advantage.
