That’s what you all said about this years team and they went 15-0! Every school should hope to have a “down” Westfield type of year. Oh and they managed to vanquish OS in regulation this year, didn’t need OT, I hope WHS has another “down” year.

Many skill position players returning. JV was weak this year, but that's because Simmons pulled the better players up to Varsity. Freshmen were undefeated and won by an average of 18 points. Future looking bright for the Bulldogs and their wondrous Broadwalk Fries! Don't bet against them.

With Doc and staff in its second year, look for big things from LB.
Lake Braddock's only competition might be Westfield next year.

I think everyone will agree that they got this program tuned around and going in the right direction. A very supportive administration and AD has made this transition a very smooth one. There is no more me, it all we now!

A lot of returning starters will fuel the fire for a deep playoff run.

Cheers to the best staff in the state.

Gonna schedule 1A teams for 2018 so you can have opposing team drop 70+ points on you in the playoffs next year? What a joke and embarrassment to FFX Co football with that performance against Patriot HS in the playoffs.

For the first time in a long time, and definitely the first time in the past 3 years, Westfield will be the clear cut favorites to win it all. In previous years they were just expected to make their annual trip to the region championship game and lose, and more recently, specifically the last 3 seasons, they weren't expected to be actual contenders because they kept on graduating over half their starters. This is the first time in a while that Westfield won't be doing that and this is due to the team being relatively young this year as well a small senior class numbers wise by Westfield standards. On offense they will be returning only 2 O-Lineman that started but they had some big guys on the bench and at the JV level. At TE they will have Joe Clancy back, who didn't play that much TE this year till near the end but that was because he was a starter on defense. At RB they will be getting back Eugene Asante who's should be making a run at All-Met Honors and will be one of the top RBs in the state. They also have a lot of depth at this position as well. At WR they bring back their entire group which consists of the 3 best receivers in their conference in Kiley, Morin, and Woodley, who also happen to be 3 of the best receivers in the region. One thing to watch out for though is that Morin plays both ways. Noah Kim will be coming into the year as the best QB in the state and expect him to dominate other teams as a Junior. Now that his first year as a starter is out of the way and all his weapons are returning, it'll be a scary year for the rest of the state. On defense they will be losing their most 3 important players but this happens most years and I think the Bulldogs will be fine. They won't be as strong on the D-Line as they were the past 3 years but they should be more than okay, especially since the rest of the defense is stacked. They are graduating 2 LBs, but Clancy, Newborn, Dishun, and McClain, all who received major play time or started will be back. The defensive secondary will be losing 2 players but they bring back Morin and Hinton who are clearly 2 of the best DBs in the entire state. Special teams will be weird. Their punting game was strong this year with Steinhilber but looking at what the team is returning I don't think they will be punting much next year. 2 of the 3 kickers they used will be back so I don't think the kicking game will change that much either. Their two most dangerous returners Morin and Hinton will once again dominante the return game. Their freshman team went undefeated and didn't really have many close games, so I'd expect a few sophomores playing up and making an impact. There's always a few new kids and kids that hadn't made much impact in the past doing big things. Put all these factors together as well as the best coaching staff in the state and I think Westfield is the clear cut favorite to win it all once again.

A couple of things:

One of the things that makes Simmons so successful is that he picks over the JV team like a vulture and brings up all their players who can play backup. That's why the team doesn't have noticeable drop offs in talent.

The freshmen team was very potent offensively. Not as much defensively. Any rising sophomores that Simmons brings up from the JV will most probably be on offense, where the varsity team will already be strong next year. Some of the returning backups are going to have to step it up to the next level if WF wants to 4peat.

The kicking game isn't a strength for the bulldogs. Wasn't this year. Won't be next year either. With all those hispanics in that school, you'd think they could find a decent place kicker and booming punter.

What a wonderful year Lake Braddock had in 2017.
They had a playoff game at home and a very successful season.
They have a lot of very good players coming back and a few maybe football scholarship players.

The coaching staff has done a fabulous job molding these young men into successful student athletes.

The program has now been turned around after a few years of questionable character and disruption, I think we can expect more of this kind of success in 2018.

Go Bruins!!!

You forgot Jewell at center on offense, he's a two year starter, next year will be 3, he also won a few post season accolades. They have some pretty big juniors who should be able to plug the empty holes on the rest of the line. They lose lineman every year but every year seem to find ample replacements. With Kim, Asante, Morin, Kiley, Clancy, and Woodley returning on the offense they'll definitely have the capability of putting up some points. Don't forget Soto and Daniel, both sophomores, who got playing time can contribute as well.

On defense Roberts returns on the line, Aguilar who got playing time and is a sophomore will be back. Would expect to see Clancy on the line as well, will be too big for LB next year. Newborn and Dishun will be the starting at LB's on the inside, can have Gepford in the mix as well, McLain outside. Then Morin and Hinton in the secondary along with probably Kiley and Johnson who both saw plenty of time back there.

I agree that kicking will be a big question mark, but it was this year and they seemed to be okay. Hildrup who did plenty of kicking will be back, think he got injured late in the year. He showed promise so he might turn out to be a decent surprise. Their return game with Hinton and Morin will be dangerous, don't forget Morin's punt, field goal, and extra point block ability.

The one thing I disagree with is the comment that they'll be the clear favorite for the first time in a long time. Not so true, entering the 2015 campaign they were picked by Gameday Magazine, Washington Post, Rivals, and a few others to be the cream of 6A North.

Westfield will be A favorite next year not THE favorite. You win and lose largely by the play in the "trenches" and until we know how they replace their lineman on both sides of the ball it is too early to "crown their ass."

Look for a resurgence from South County. They went 13-0 two years ago before losing the region and have stumbled to 4 and 6 loss seasons with about the same level of talent. They will make a push to win the region next year.

Lake Braddock and Centreville will have something to say about it as well. Expect South Lakes and Madison to be off a bit compared to the last several years.

Westfield needs Oakton and Chantilly to rebound. In order to stay sharp they need a tougher schedule.

Freedom, Woodbridge, Hylton, Battlefield and Patriot are all losing a ton of senior talent. Will be interesting to see Prince William will be able to challenge for the region title again.

Westfield: Is the favorite next year, until someone beats them.....they bring most of a State Championship team back. Best coaching staff in the state!!

South County: Will rebound from 2 down years and be a contender for the region. They always have athletes, coaching needs to be better this year

Centreville: Should give Westfield a run for the money, big team coming back with very good skill kids

South Lakes: I think they may surprise people. lost the big 3, but has some good players coming up

Lake Braddock: Don't see them contending, they had a loaded team this year and did very little. Offense was exposed by Woodbridge. They only beat teams with losing records. The so called "best staff in the state" had the talent to compete with Westfield, just not the coaching

Freedom, Woodbridge, Hylton, Battlefield and Patriot: All have good athletes, Look for Battlefield to pull away from PW pack this year

Besides the usual suspects, who are the sleeper teams that will rise up and challenge the typical top teams (WHS CVHS LB SoCo)? Can Freedom W., Woodbridge, Battlefield, Hylton & Patriot replicate the successes they had this past season after losing so much talent (which PWCO school will Rob Giapapa gush over)? Will Chantilly or McLean finally win a game(maybe they can schedule TJ). My pick is keep an eye on Robinson.

Robinson just isn’t very good. I’ve watched them 2 times each of the past two years. They play very hard and disciplined football, but they don’t have much talent. They aren’t big or fast. They beat the hell out of the teams they should beat, but they struggle against teams with athletes. If they had a few more athletes like Braddock has they would be a contender every year.

Exactly, Robo bring Robo, doing what they do best, nothing flashy could be all they need with the talent drain from the schools in their district. LB loses a lot, so does SOCo. Could be their year along with W.Springfield.

This will be Lake Braddock's year for 3 reasons:

3. They have quite a few starters returning this year on offense and defense.
2. The conference is weak this year, SoCo, Robinson down
1. Doc and staff will have a full year to get this team ready.

Doc did a great job turning this program around that has been spiraling out of control for the last few years. Putting a great staff together late, so many distractions, injuries, players needing discipline, all of this and they turned it around and won the conference. This was one of the best years LB has had in recent memory.

They had 7 or 8 All Conference players, including the Coach of the year, so look for LB to do big things this coming year

Doc didn't have the talent those other Braddock teams had. They were all stacked teams full of scholarship players

This team had minimal talent and Doc and staff coached it up and got everything they could out of them.

The previous staff knew it would be a down year, so that's why they were all so eager to leave. Doc and staff welcomed the challenge and met it head on. That's what coaching is all about.

Now with year 2 coming up for the staff, you will see why people here are calling this best staff in the state. They are building this program to win year in and year out.

They will challenge Westfield for the region title and be one of the top teams in the state.

The Lake Braddock run is over!!!

Doc couldn't win with a very good team. Why would anyone think this guy can coach?

He hasn't shown any reason to believe that he is nothing more then an average coach. He can not coach on the level of the better teams and has demonstrated that this year

He had a all region QB and 3 all region receivers as well as a good O line. A couple of all regions on defense as well and the POY on offense and defense.

He went 8-4 with that, give that kind of talent to Centreville, WP, SoCo or Hayfield and they compete with Westfield for championships.

Sorry LB for all the talent you have, you need better coaching if you want to compete with the better teams

Doc sucks. Simmons proved he did not need elite talent to win it all this year, proving he and bis staff are the best in VA!

Feel bad for LB fans next year when you don’t have all the great talent from this past year, say hello to 5-5.

No Darcy, no Matheny, no Cobb. Good luck. SOCO & ROBO are gonna roll you guys next year, probably W.Springfield too

Sorry, but that poster is right, there is nothing returning like you had this year. Darcy, Methany, Cobb were usually the best players on the field on almost every game.

Offense:
No QB returning, with only 1 decent receiver returning and they may have to use him at QB, the others are average, The run game isn't good enough to carry them. 28 is coming off injury and is too small to carry the load. Average O line, just like this year

Defense:
1 good line man and LB return but that's basically it. The DB 6 that got hurt cant cover anyone.

Coaching:
Wasn't very good this year with a lot of talent ..it will have to be much better and I don't see that happening

Jack Darcy’s dad and Freedom W. fanboy on Twitter crying their kids didn’t get selected for some stupid award. First off Jacks Dad, your kids team lost 4 games. Anyone can throw and look like they did something for paper but in the end did you win when it mattered. That would be a big fat NO! Same goes to AJ. You had 50plus tds but did you come up big in playoff/crunch time, NO! Last but not least, quit with the we had the toughest schedule bit ok. You had Fairfax, Yorktown, Woodson, WSHS, Oakton, Robo and you lost to a 1 dimensional West Po team, those were hardly a murderers row.

Freedom W, don’t even let me get started on all the crappy PWCO teams you padded your stats against

I thought the Freedom QB was pretty good, very athletic and threw the ball pretty well. They lost a tough game to Ricky Slade and Hylton in the end.

The Braddock QB was decent, the offense was geared towards stats, not wins. Most of his throws were screens and short throws to athletes who got a lot of yards after catch. The better teams were able to defend them.

I agree about the schedule, they had 6 easy win games 7 counting SoCo, who had a down year, besides SoCO did they beat anyone with a winning record?

Robinson and TC both had winning records. Braddock was a pretty good team, not great but well above average. SoCo was very talented but made too many mistakes. When they got out of their own way they could beat anyone.

AJ is small explosive athlete. His running ability is amazing but his throwing leaves a lot to be desired. Arm strength and accuracy is avg at best but mainly his lack of size (5’7” maybe) will keep him from playing QB on Saturdays.

Lake Braddock football team was well above average ? NO WAY!!!!

Name one signature win they had?

Win: Robinson, TC Woodson, Yorktown, Fairfax, Woodson, Oakton, South County
Lost: Westfield, Stone Bridge, West Potomac, Woodbridge

All there wins were over teams they should have beaten and beaten badly.

Westfield, Stone Bridge and Woodbridge crushed them
West Potomac didn't even have a winning season and beta them

Braddock was a average team and may struggle this year to be an average team.
No returning QB and losing 4 and 21 will kill them both on offense and defense.

Looks like 5-5 at best this year for a once proud program

I think LB will do just fine for this upcoming season. The only teams we know for certain they'll lose to is Westfield and Stone Bridge. Definite wins are Yorktown, West Springfield, Fairfax, Woodson, Robinson and Oakton. Toss up games will be against South County and West Potomac (which they have a high chance of winning). I see them finishing no less than 7-3 (probably will go 8-2). The real question is how will they do in the 2018 playoffs? Its been a while since they've won the regional title.

Interesting that they chose to put Kyle Simmons name in the article about Hs coaches that could possibly leave for college programs. What are the chancs he does leave? That would make the whole state happy and open the door for other teams to rise up and grab the 6A championship. Who from the North would benefit most from his departure? Could OS finally break through with Simmons departure? Most importantly, who would be most likely candidate to replace him?

If coach Simmons were to leave Westfield, then coach Doc from Lake Braddock would be the likely candidate. I could not imagine them considering anyone else.

Doc did a great job rebuilding the spiraling program at LB and lead the team to the Patriot conference championship. In addition, he was the coach of the year.
He has made LB a contender again.

He and his staff are poised for another great year at LB, but if Westfield calls, then he and staff would lead them to another championship.

Under coach Doc, LB is building a class program that makes the players accountable for their actions.

They were the Patriot Conference champions and had a number of All Conference Players in addition to the Conference Coach of the Year.

The change in this program where character matters a lot, has made a big difference.

With the strides that were made last year, the program has come full circle and is now back on the winning track.

Look for this team to do big things in 2018, the coaching staff has everyone in the building on the same page and are destined for glory.

LB under coach P were winning double digit games every year and winning at least 2 playoff games. So please explain how winning only 8 games is an improvement and “back to winning ways”? Also stop with the “Patriot” district accolades. Doc didn’t get shit when they picked all region or states.

Coach Doc and his Posse are making more strides in the under-served Dunkin Doughnuts and Taco Bell in Burke than the "Patriot" conference.

Making Coaching Great AGAIN, ONE Half-Time snack at a Time.

They are completely changing the mentality on Burke Lake Road by implementing "Movie Nite" in the weight room, 3:00-6:00 daily for all players. Featuring ALL-U-CAN-EAT Ihop pancakes & THE BRAINTRUST bonding experience of "Enabling Parents ONLY" @ the bi-monthly "Eat the Trough Nite." Two GREAT ways to building the program @ LB.
It's actually from Chapter 2 of Dave Thomas' book. II. Kiss the ass of Enabling Parents and treat the kid's like kindergartners!

Re: High School Football 2018

The program under coach P was great for the last 8-9 years, we knew we were going to win 10-12 games and go deep into the playoffs every year. We were soldiers, always ready to play and was never intimidated by anyone.

We had some success against Westfield in the regular season, but could not beat them in the playoffs, when it mattered most. However, so did everyone else. That is why they are 3 time state champs. Westfield is one of the all time best programs in the state.

These clowns at LB now, had a loaded team handed to them and couldn't compete with the better teams, in fact they were blown out in 3 of the 4 losses. The staff did not have enough experience in winning and playing against good teams so they did not have the team prepared. They were intimidated at Westfield, Stone Bridge and Woodbridge, that's on the coaching staff.

So before you say LB is back on the winning track, look at the previous 4 years, 10 plus wins every year and a deep playoff run. You would have to say, they need to get back on the winning track.

Coach P was a great coach, he taught us life lessons through football and so what if a few rules were fractured, we had his back and he had ours. Ask some of his former players that are now a success in life, how LB football helped them. That's what coaching is all about. So stop bashing the previous teams and embrace them.

So Westfield has to prove 2017 wasn't a fluke in what way? Not sure a team that goes 15-0, wins its 3rd consecutive state championship in the states largest classification has anything to prove. Please explain what you meant by that comment....

I am not sure any of the Fairfax County teams can beat them. Maybe Freedom, Woodbridge, Battlefield or Forrest Park can give them a game

1 Centreville - They may give them a battle because its a rivalry

2 South County - Could be an interesting game, SoCo will be much improved this year

3 Robinson - They are one dimensional, Westfield is built to stop the run

4 South Lakes - Couldn't beat them last year with SL best team they have ever had

5 Lake Braddock - Couldn't beat them last year with a loaded team, Coaching isn't experienced enough.

Robinson has played Westfield as tough as anyone the last couple of years. They easily could have won the last two games, but the bulldogs squeaked out a couple of wins. Robinson appears well coached and physical, but they are in need of one or two more playmakers. The other teams listed have more talent but Westfield has been able to beat them much easier.

It was a very close game but only a bonehead play on 4th and less than a yard inside Madison's 15 prevented Westfield from putting 7 points on the board. They had just moved the ball down the field with under 2 minutes to go and got cute by trying to run a pitch.

If Westfield had run the ball between the tackles they get a first down, few plays later their scoring a TD. Inept play calling at the end of the game by Westfield is what kept Madison in the game.

Don't know about the other teams but Westfield has a good number of starters coming back. The Bulldogs bring back 8 offensive starters and 7 on the defense.

The Bulldogs offense should be pretty explosive, QB, RB, TE, and 3 WR's who were all starters are back. On defense Westfield always is tough, Shields is an incredible d-coordinator and they've got some pretty solid underclassmen who'll be filling the holes left by graduation.

That's because Simmons thought Asante had the speed to beat Madison's defense to the edge...that was a coaching "Decision", a wrong one. That's why the game is played. Lamented points not on the board, are simply points not scored...just like the pass Madison's John Finney didn't catch in the end zone at the end of the game.

Madison returns players on both sides of the ball, but not as many as Westfield. Key will be who is coming up on the O and D lines. Their QB from last year is returning (not Noah Kim...) but the rising Junior QB is one to watch down the road.

End of the day...Westfield, Centreville and Madison will beat the snot out of each other again next year...and beat up on Oakton and Chantilly.

Not impressed at all by Westfield and its sycophantic fans. Come on Simmons, you are a pussy, need to cover yourself with how many head coaching hires, and so is the Administration and parents. Grow some real balls folks and dont forget to bring the fresh cut fries.

NOT IMPRESSED!

By all accounts no one picked WHS to 3peat, especially with all the key players who graduated. There were a bunch of people on ffu doubting WHS QB & that he’d crumble under the weight of expectations. So it was more “unexpected” than a fluke. Now moving to next season, who can replace #97, (believe he was All-Met) & #75, monster OLineman. I didn’t see any undecassmen during the playoff game vs SL that will come close to filling their shoes. The one big kid they had quit to play basketball. Doesn’t bode well for Bulldogs.

Screw everyone in Concorde district, Wildcats taking it this year. Best stable of RB’s & this year Haddock will unleash the offense in an aerial attack liked of which you’ve never seen from the Wildcats before. Haddock realizes he need to air it out more and has the QB & WR to finally do it.

They've got big kids to fill the void, just look at the roster from last year. The big kid you're talking about who plays basketball is not a football player, that's why he quit. Sure Cockrill and St. Germain will be missed, just like Petrillo, Johnson, Frimpong, Free, and Eckert were missed heading into last season. Sort of the same with the Bulldogs missing Scanlon, Clancy, and Aiello the year before. As with the year before, Gibson, Scoville, Moore, etc.. Bottom line every year the program loses kids but doesn't seem to miss a beat

Yep, sure, you sound like the guy from this past season that said Centreville was the team to beat. Something about having the best QB, RB's, and WR's in the region. How'd that work out, your big brothers over at Westfield were the ones who wound up having them, and still do!

I thought heading into last season most thought Westfield was the team to beat until someone eventually would beat them. They lost key players from the year before but still had plenty of talent returning.

They had a ton of juniors coming into the season that either started as sophomores or played a great deal the year before. The only true question marks were kicking and the QB.

The QB was slow to start off but not unusual, Simmons typically keeps the playbook small until he feels his QB is comfortable then opens it up. Did the same with Johnson, Scanlon, Scoville, & Mullins over the previous 5 seasons.

I don't really think you can say a team that goes undefeated, beats the likes of Woodbridge and Oscar Smith in back to back weeks to capture their 3rd straight state title had a fluke season. That's just plain asinine, maybe they overachieved, or possibly they were just the best team at the end of the day.

Also, Westfield has never been short on big kids, they had plenty of size, still do.

HS Football = a place for redneck dads to live again through their white trash kids OR a place for soon to be felons to try and makes it to the NFL to help mama pay her bills.

The smart elite kids are playing baseball and lacrosse.

Enjoy your CTE rednecks!

Kyle Simmons voted by his peers as 6A VA coach of the year according to VA Preps. Didn’t see “the best coaching staff” Doc winning that award by his peers.

This is part of what has become wrong with America. We've become a nation of pussies, and try to write it off being smarter. Kids aren't playing baseball and lacrosse because they are "elite" or "smart", they are playing it because their parents are afraid they will get hurt, and don't want them playing a physical game against "those mean, big, black kids." If you think it's anything else, you're a fool. As a white football dad, I can tell you I have heard that conversation more times than I'd like to admit, but it is true.

By the way, what sports are at the top of the concussion occurrence scale? Not football. Skateboarding, girls soccer, hockey, and boys soccer all have a hire rate of concussions than football. That's according to a Mayo Clinic study. Why don't you hear about this, because no one really cares about those sports.

And while I'm at it, shut up with your damn complaining about Westfield hiring former HC's as assistants. That's the kind of thing all coaches should be doing. Why other coaches in the country aren't doing this I do not understand. Just because other coaches are stupid, it doesn't make the WF coach a "cheater". When you stay something that stupid, you show you know absolutely nothing about the sport. And that you are probably a 15 year old who should be in class taking notes, not at home stroking it to your fantasy's about how great you could be. Idiot.
