Bill Park, get off your high horse and stop pretending you care about sexual harassment. This is about football not your grossly exaggerated plea for saving girls at Lake Braddock. If it's such a horrible place why are your girls there? Save us taxpayers a dime and move on, get a life and stop trying to bring football justice to your stupid case.

Park may well be an ass, but he is right. Unlike you he will not quit the cause because some pussy is taking shots at him behind a computer. Your name isn't Dave is it? The fact is this will be on TV shortly so you need to brush up on your fake news propaganda. Dave picked the wrong guys to mess with....that noose is getting snug ain't it. As soon as we can find one to fit Fat Karl he will feel it as well. And if super fat Ernesto is around we are looking for the elephant noose to fit you. New Years will be great douche bags.

I love that you just admitted that Dave picked the wrong guys to mess with. For you just admitted that Park, Poythress and Kyle V Miller, Esquire are in cahoots to destroy Dave. You just admitted that this isn't about a bogus sexual harassment case...it's about winning your war against the Lake Braddock administration for having the audacity to bust football players for criminal activity and firing the football coach for covering it up.

Nice work dickheads! Busted.

Bruin Dad 2 (aka Kyle V Miller, Esquire) you lie. All 12 families united - NOT. Park is pimping his own daughter for the headline. It's child abuse. Using his own daughter to make false claims so he can retalliate against the administration for busting his son in that car drunk? He is justifying his guilt for getting Poythress fired. Wow. Great dad. Great human being.

And Kyle Miller, you're just a pawn. A weak, small little man who lives in a shack off Rolling Road hiding behind a computer. A washed up lawyer with nothing to do except dream about being Poythress' amd Park's bitch. You just want to play with the big boys. But you are a disgusting excuse for a human being much like your "buddies".

So stop your lying and hit the weight room, Miller. You look like you're a 50 year old man trapped in a twelve year old body. Tough guy.

Why is FCPS indulging this man any longer? New head of HR Bryan Gibson should contact CPS on Park rather than allowing this to go on!
Maybe now that r Chace Ramey had neeen replaced by someone with a real criminal background, FCPS will support administrators and staff.

The big problem in this situation is the fact that kerns has been bribing children to take Thomas's side with snickers bars and his other favorite snacks. When students speak out against his intolerable tyranny he does things like kick them out of sporting events and he makes the lunch staff stop serving them food. Then when the press comes around Kerns plays cute gopher like he never did anything wrong and goes back to his life of obesity.

You are correct, Dave learned that coach P knew that he knew about this and did nothing. So what did Dave do? He turned on coach P, didn't renew his coaching contract and tired to get him fired from his teaching position.

You can say that coach P did this or did that, but the bottom line is, he stood up for what was right. Dave did nothing and then made it worse, by trying to cover it up.

The pressure is now on Dave from the DOE, I can not imagine he will be at LB much longer

Always seems like a lot of bad publicity coming out of one of Fairfax County Public School Systems, Lake Braddock Secondary School for the past year or so, when does it stop?

Sexual harassment by a coach, coaches and ADs fired, students getting harassed by teachers for religious heard wear and now a federal investigation as well as civil investigations.

Has the Principal lost all control at this school?
It seems he doesn't know anything that goes on at his school, is he there during the school day?

If any business was run like this, the person in charge would be held accountable and fired. Saying that the Principal isn't aware of these issues is ridiculous, he should know what is going on in his surroundings as well as be held accountable for his employees action.

This to me is a no brainer, the Principal needs to be held accountable and fired or placed somewhere else. The Lake Braddock community is tired of the school being drug thru the mud every few months.

So I see more negative press for Lake Braddock Secondary School. I just don't understand why the school board has put up with this for past year and half.

Show some leadership, make some changes!!!
Dave Thomas has to go, there is no other way out of this.

He got rid of the AD and Football and tried to pin it on them. Now lets just get to the source of the matter, why not start at the top where the problem has always been? These issues will go away and the community and the school can start the healing process..

This is all old news. It’s all been handled and quite well, I might add. The Dept of Ed will find exactly what the new Supt did, that all is well and all was handled well too. Parents can be mad all they want. They knew and did nothing so how can they expect school admin to have done something? Check the time lines. You’ll see all was done exactly as it should have been. Now move on! The Muslim girl? Check out her story, nature, and habit and then you’ll see the truth. It’s done! Talking about Braddock is fun. Fine. But there’s nothing wrong there nor has there been. Even Coach P in football was fired appropriately because of his continual used of words like “retard” and “faggot.” Ones career just can’t be sustained now adays with that kind of behavior. Coach Doc has turned the program around, just ask the classroom teachers. Lake Braddock is headed back in the right direction now. Quit perpetuating the story as anything but that!

99.5 percent of the people at lake Braddock are not interested, dont care, or don't even know about any of this!
All of this continuous discussion is being done by a small group of people who were directly involved or close to those involved. These people are just talking to each other.I'm not saying this didn't happen, or the investigation is not happening; I'm saying that the people within the school have either moved on, or don't know much, or care much about what happened.

I am not sure where you are getting your information, but, this is simply not true. The whole Lake Braddock community is aware and are talking about this. How can they not be, when this or some other discretion comes up at Lake Braddock in the media every few weeks?

DOE was brought in because there is something there, otherwise, this would have been closed. The school board and principal have to be held accountable for the actions that this has caused.

Most likely the Principal will be reassigned to Gatehouse for the remainder of the year. I also suspect that the administration staff, will replaced with new people to allow this school to heal. It makes sense to clean house and start fresh

Just not true. DOE finds nothing. Waste of time. Staff is happy with Dave. Athletes were thugs in the building with no consequences before Coach Doc. That’s why you should ask the teachers, ass.

Ask a teacher because in the past, athletes could do no wrong. They were above the school rules and Coach P supported them. Coach P never had the standards Coach Doc has. Student athletes cross the classes and grades, ass. Don’t you know anything?

Why would the football coach be responsible for student athletes behavior in other classes? Shouldn't that teacher handle that?

Is the Chemistry or English teacher responsible when a athlete doesn't do well on the field? Are there consequences in class for that?

How could athletes be thugs in school?

Was Dave aware of this?
Does Dave claim he wasn't aware of this?
Or was this a 1 time thing?

The only standards Doc has, is being a average coach. Look at his past
This hurts the program and overall development of the players

At the end of the day, the coach who called kids faggots will be rewarded with a six figure payout courtesy of Ramey and Brabrand
An abusive parent will be allowed to lie without retribution
A bigoted board member will spew garbage
A scared trainer will be bullied

And we’ll all ignore the well being of our students

Coach P will always be a winner, he taught us life lessons through football.

Look at the players who went thru the program under P and are now thriving as adults: Doctors, Dentist, lawyers, firemen, police officers, teachers just to name a few.

You people who are waking in your boots because of these fed investigations are so ignorant. ANYONE can file a complaint with these agencies. Filing a complaint and getting a decision go your way are two different things. You can file a complaint based on anything factual or not. The investigation is the important thing. The fact complaints were filed by Park who himself should be investigated by his own place of employment, means nothing but he needs to seek psychiatric help as he's a narcissistic, megalomaniac, attention seeking, soulless being.

Great!! So we can look for more negative press in the new about Lake Braddock.

When does it end? The LB community is sick and tired of all this negativity and hope this saga ends soon.

Why don't they just transfer the principal to Gatehouse while this investigation is going on? This way you leave the school and the students out of this.

"Know ye the truth and the truth will set you free" John 8:32

Lots has happened in the past at LBSS - now is simply the tipping point. Before Kerns there was Clark, before Clark was Martino and the root of the progressive rot is found there. MM condoned abusive coaches then which happened across the spectrum of sports - these coaches also need to be held accountable for their actions as coaches appear to being held now.

Thomas and Kerns are scapegoats for past sins by previous administrators.

So you are saying abusive coaches were tolerated at Lake Braddock in the past?

How long has this been going on?

Hasn't Dave Thomas been the Principal at Lake Braddock for the last 8-10 years or so?

Isn't the Principal ultimately responsible for these types of mishaps and providing a safe environment for all students?

If he didn't know about any of these so called "abusive coaches" then shame on him for not knowing what goes on at his school. Parents fill out a end of the year evaluation for coaches in every sport, nothing ever came up there?

Mr. Thomas needs to be held accountable and fired for allowing any of this to happen.Lake Braddock use to have a great reputation as one the top schools in the state of Virginia, now it is a punch line to a joke.

Subject: Washington Post article: Education Department launches probe of Fairfax County school’s handling of harassment allegations

Good morning Honorable Fairfax County School Board Members.

I hope each of you and your families had an enjoyable holiday season and wish you a belated Happy New Year.

In case you missed it at the close of 2017, the Washington Post published a follow-up article confirming the ongoing DoE OCR federal investigation into sexual harassment at LBSS and the ensuing FCPS and SB cover-up.

The article can be found here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/us-agency-launches-probe-of-fairfax-schools-handling-of-harassment-allegations/2017/12/22/52fd09ca-d6ee-11e7-a986-d0a9770d9a3e_story.html?

Additionally, WJLA-7 picked up the story: http://wjla.com/news/local/feds-probe-va-school-systems-handling-of-sexual-harassment-complaint-against-coach

As a courtesy heads-up, you may want to tune into WUSA-9 for the 11pm news on Thursday night as FCPS and Lake Braddock will start off 2018 in fine fashion.

The story will run in excess of eight minutes -- after commercials, that covers approximately one-third of the evening newscast. That's an amazing amount of coverage for a story about "improper conduct" and a complaint that was "unfounded and without merit."

Have a nice day!

Regards, Bill Park

Subject: Federal Investigation Opened - RE: LBSS Sexual Harassment & Ensuing FCPS Cover-up

Dear LBSS Booster Club Members:

Good afternoon.

In lieu of tonight's LBSS Booster Club meeting, I wanted to make sure you are all aware of the following:

Per letter dated November 2nd 2017, the United States Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights has announced that they have opened and will be conducting a formal investigation of the events that occurred at Lake Braddock regarding both the sexual harassment that occurred during the 2015-16 season on the LBSS girl's varsity basketball team and the subsequent sham investigations and cover-up by FCPS administrators and the Fairfax County School Board.

Presumably, this investigation will include LBSS Athletic Director Karl Kern's involvement in the retaliatory employment action taken against former LBSS football coach Jim Poythress and all of the actions taken by LBSS Principal Dave Thomas in response to the harassment that occurred.

Two additional/related items for you:

1. School Board Member Megan McLaughlin will be hosting a community round-table discussion at LBSS this WednesdayNovember 8th from 7:00 - 8:30 pm in the multi-purpose room (enter at Door #17 just to the right of the front entrance). The round-table discussion will focus on the upcoming budget projections, the new superintendent's goals, as well as any other issues or concerns you wish to discuss (i.e. the just announced federal investigation).

2. You can also ask Principal Thomas and/or Schoolboard member McLaughlin on when you can catch the next presentation of Principal Thomas' "Bulletproof" professional development seminar - which has been wildly popular among FCPS administrators and school board members, Virginia Department of Education officials, and Superintendents and executives of neighboring school districts. Please see below for a previous invitation that was sent out that explicitly details the topics that Principal Thomas will cover in his presentation.

P.S. In case you missed it back at the end of June, here is the Washington Post article that details what occurred that precipitated the federal investigation:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/highschools/at-lake-braddock-sexual-harassment-accusations-personnel-changes-and-lingering-resentment/2017/06/29/59a3d00e-5536-11e7-a204-ad706461fa4f_story.html?

"BulletProof - Management Techniques to Survive a Crisis of Leadership"
Professional Development Seminar - Presented by Lake Braddock (Burke, VA) Secondary School Principal Dave Thomas - Time & Location TBD

Superintendents & School System Executives,

Good afternoon.

I would like to invite you and your respective staffs to attend a popular new professional development seminar being offered by Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) as approved and endorsed by FCPS' freshly-appointed Superintendent Dr. Scott Brabrand and its School Board Chairwoman Jane Strauss.

With the backing of Dr. Brabrand and Chairwoman Strauss, Lake Braddock Secondary School Principal Dave Thomas will explain and stress the survival tactics necessary to weather the storm and remain employed amidst challenging leadership environments when you are the central figure in Washington Post articles such as the article linked immediately below:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/highschools/at-lake-braddock-sexual-harassment-accusations-personnel-changes-and-lingering-resentment/2017/06/29/59a3d00e-5536-11e7-a204-ad706461fa4f_story.html?

Principal Thomas' "Bulletproof"seminar has already been offered to all FCPS high school and secondary school Principals and Assistant Principals, and Directors of Student Athletics as well Commonwealth Superintendent Dr. Staples and his staff; based on the positive feedback to date, the seminar could be implemented as a best practices practicum for administrators in other school systems.

Principal Thomas will cover topics including:
- How to sandbag your subordinates -- don't let your staff hem you in with e-mails documenting your knowledge of events
- Lying requires a conscious understanding (or documentary evidence) that you "know" what you said wasn't true
- Don't let a moral compass dictate your leadership direction
- Remain fit in stressful environments by running from the truth and shed weight by dodging responsibility
- Co-opt your chain of command so that they become enablers and co-conspirators (See FCPSExecutive Management)
- Intimidate and retaliate against witnesses -- "dead" men (and those who sign non-disclosure agreements) tell no tales
- Capitalize on the craven nature of those with alleged oversight responsibility (See School Board)
- Embrace the mockery of a sham of a mockery that is the FCPSinvestigative and disciplinary process
- Never apologize -- contrition shows weakness and reveals recognition of culpability
- Sanctimoniously proselytize core values to mask the fact that you don't possess them (ex. Integrity)
- Avoid the "third rails" of employee discipline -- don't engage in sexual relations with your subordinates -- but allowing sexual harassment of students under your purview remains permissible
- Selectively adhere to FCPSregulations to your advantage while ignoring others

- Stonewall the community and outlast their short attention spans and limited interest in investing the time and energy to protect their children
- Stay anonymous and remain out of the media especially the Washington Post - any publicity is bad publicity - except for propaganda you promulgate on Twitter
- Remain brazenly arrogant and rely on the odds being infinitesimal that a student/community advocate has the wherewithal and dedication to hold you accountable and ensure the safety and well-being of FCPS students

With appropriate implementation of the described leadership techniques and tricks of the trade, Dr. Brabrand and Chairwoman Strauss are confident that high school administrators throughout Virginia and the greater Washington, DC area will be well-prepared to similarly survive events that should have led to the administrator's professional demise and assist school districts in being able to retain such top-shelf talent as Principal Thomas.

Dr. Brabrand, Chairwoman Strauss, and I encourage you to schedule a date and time that works for you and your staff to join us in Burke for a presentation by Principal Thomas.

Thanks much.

They really should clean house of all the administrators aren't most of them former baseball players who coached with Thomas? Might as well start LB with a clean slate

My quest is to keep a 2 year old incident - that was handled by the AD gerting fired - alive so I can say I got the new athletic director and principal fired. Why do I care? Because those bastards disciplined my son for a DUI incident and when the football coach didn't report it to admin, they let him go. That football coach is my BFF and I have a guilty conscience because I got him fired. Damn those administrators for doing their jobs and following regulations that they are paid to enforce.

First the AD Clark, then the old football coach Poythress, next will be the new AD Kerns for his retaliatory employment action taken against former LBSS football coach Jim Poythress.

Emmy award winning Peggy Fox is a West Springfield alumnae.....married her high school boyfriend. Kyle Miller is a West Springfield alumnus....funny "coincidence". Also interesting that Bill Park who begged media outlets to cover "his" story knows the segment will be "8 minutes to include commercials". Is Bill Park paying for an infomercial?

It's old news. People lost their jobs and the investigation is complete. There's no new news, Peggy. You've been played by a narcissistic, psychotic parent gone wild - just like to Post reporter back in July that has been "reassigned" for falling for Park's bullshit. Just because Fairfax didn't share their findings with a psychotic parent demanding to see confidential information about their employees doesn't mean they didn't investigate.

Park is pissed because he's not important enough to know what was found in the investigation. The US Navy should investigate this psycho and take away his security clearance. He's a bad dude. His poor daughter. She must be so embarrassed.

The news report on Channel 9 was very informative.

The report clearly showed that coach Poythress was fired in retaliation for being what Dave Thomas stated "we now know who our mole is, its our football" coach" You saw the document right there on TV. This would seem to be a clear case of the Whistleblowers law. How can you argue its not, it right there in black and white

Also showed that the former ADs email to Thomas, he stated he made him aware of these allegations on the same day it was reported to him. So how can the principal say he didn't know about it.

Somethings not right, the principal should be held accountable? Instead it looks like he threw the others under the bus to save his self.

The LB community has been through enough already, in the best interest of the school and community, reassign the principal and make this someone else problem

Out of context. Media tells the truth every time? This is old and way over. Dave did not know what you think he knew. He just didn’t. He cannot fire people, Gateway does that, idiots. Where were the parents in the initial complaint? Why go to the DSA and then pout when nothing was done. No one went to Dave. Some random email and the DSA should have handled the investigation and didn’t. That’s why he has no job. Coach G is a creepy man and clearly a liar. Good riddance. Coach P cannot day “retarded” nor “faggot” in the classroom or on the field this day and time. Add in the Park boy’s alcohol related incident that Coach P covered up for saving the boy’s scholarship and that man had to go too. The county investigated. Done. Now shut up.

I have no vested interest in this mess, but I did see some alternative facts in the Peggy Fox investigation.

Gianelli was not a teacher. Just a coach.

Mike Clark was essentialy fired for not handling the complaint in proper fashion. Allowed to resign to keep retirement benefits, but listed as resigned.

What was the date on that letter from Clark to Thomas? I suspect he sent that after he knew he was being fired (perhaps a change if story?)

Why is "Poythress is the winningest coach in school history" relevant to a girls basketball story? Is this about the footbal coach or the girls basketball complaint.

Intereting investigation that seemed rather "gossipy" rather than newsworthy.

Yep. Man of the year! Dave has weathered multiple stupid ass storms with style and a calm demeanor like none other. The girls went to the DSA and didn’t get action. What was the advice of the parents at that point? Oh wait, they didn’t tell their parents but they’ll tell the press? Hello? Red flag!

What does “we have a mole” really mean anyway? Context people.

Park has everything to complain about too. His kid was caught drinking by FCPD. Coach P in FOOTBALL covered the kid. When Coach P was removed Park goes after Dave? Interesting turn of events, no? “Coach P covered for my kid. How about I go after you to retaliate?” That mess is unrelated to the basketball business. It’s all under the FORMER DSA as well.

Issue closed.

Parents were involved from day 1.

Harassment is harassment, do you have a daughter? Would you allow this to happen?

According to the news report, it appears that the DSA reported this to the principal. I am not sure why this was not followed up on. When this thing blew up then everyone went to CYA mode.

The football coach was a witness (or Mole as it was described in the news report) who could collaborate the girls story, so he was fired.

The ultimate responsibility is on the Principal to provide a safe environment for all students. This did not happen in this case, therefore he should be held accountable and terminated.

Those girls did not alert their parents or they would have gone off after admin did nothing. They were advised to go above the DSA and they didn’t. The students let all that time pass by with no action? If Dave knew, he would have handled it. Add in the fact that he cannot fire or hire teachers and this is just dumb. The b-ball coach is gone. Good. He will never coach again. Coach P isn’t the only adult to corroborate the stories plus he’s not even the whistleblower! What did he have to gain or lose from what was going on in the basketball program with GIRLS?!? Think aboutbit. Coach P had to go. He couldn't teach, hold his tongue, or control his athletes. Game over.

Forward march, LBSS. By the way, “the principal” is not capitalized. An elected official should know that, don’t you think?

What an idiot!!

You have 16-17 year old girls who were brave enough to tell a school official when someone was doing wrong and you want to chastise them?

Dave Thomas knew when this happened and chose to do nothing. This has already been established. The football coach had nothing to gain is right, that's why Thomas wanted him out. He could corroborate the DSAs story

When the dust settles, Thomas will be out and the former football coach will have a nice settlement!!

Maybe Dave can hit him up for a loan..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

GAME OVER!!!!

Fairfax County Public Schools Statement

"FCPS takes seriously any and all allegations of sexual harassment, bullying or other allegations of inappropriate behavior reported by staff or students. Nearly 20 individuals were interviewed as part of the FCPS investigative process into the allegations raised at Lake Braddock Secondary School. The Lake Braddock coach was removed from FCPS nearly two years ago (early 2016), and has not been employed by FCPS in any capacity since then. We cannot provide further details due to legal confidentiality of personnel and student matters.

Mr. Giannelli was not a licensed-teacher; he was employed as a part-time coach only and resigned his coaching position at Lake Braddock in early 2016 and is no longer employed by FCPS. Mr. Clark retired from FCPS at the end of 2016.

FCPS' primary responsibility is the safety and well-being of all FCPS students. By law, FCPS cannot comment on specific personnel cases (unless the individual employees agree to publicly disclose information contained in their personnel files).

FCPS vigorously pursues and investigates any and all allegations of sexual harassment or other allegations of inappropriate behavior reported by staff or students. If any negligence in reporting such incidents is discovered, appropriate disciplinary actions are undertaken. If any disciplinary steps are taken against employees, the action taken is confidential under Virginia law (unless the individual employees agree to publicly disclose that information).

For those reporting any allegations, FCPS does have a “whistle blower” policy that protects employees from retribution for reporting alleged wrongdoing. There is no evidence of any retaliatory measures taken against any of the employees involved in the Lake Braddock Secondary School investigation.

The Department of Education stressed that the opening of the investigation is not an implication of any wrongdoing by FCPS and FCPS welcomes the review."

To all who are still making this a Bill Park issue, go fuck yourself. This isn’t about you. This is about underage girls who were subjected to verbal abuse for many years. This is about how unqualified personnel of Lake Braddock and FCPS failed to do anything to protect these underage girls. Again, it’s not about you. Go find something else to do, rather than sit behind a computer screen and pretend you know anything about this matter, when it’s clear you don’t.

I just watched a new WUSA channel 9 news report tonight about the ongoing saga at LBSS. It would appear that the principal at LBSS has been less then truthful or has had a memory loss with communications on these issues.

Another parent has stated that she complained to the principal and DSA a year prior to the current investigation about the same sort of allegations. Nothing was done, so this was allowed to continue for another 1-2 years.

This is why FCPS can not investigate themselves, to many things get swept under the rug. A news team looks into this investigation and all of a sudden more complaints are uncovered. DOE will certainly have their hands full.

I really don't know what happened, but generally in these types of situations, the person in charge i.e. the principal in this case, is asked to resign/be reassigned or is fired.

There could be other possible litigation issues that may stem from all of this as well.

Betsy Gallier - the new "witness" went to Accotink academy - a theraputic day school and took just enough classes at LB to be eligible to play basketball as per VHSL. accotinktheraputicday.com. It's a special-needs therapeutic setting serving children with emotional disabilities, developmental disabilities and specific learning disabilities.

I'm sure Park could get her to say just about anything he wanted her to. And Peggy Fox put the words in her mouth. I'm not denying Gianelli was an ass, but come on let's have credible witnesses and deal with the truth. Don't put words in a diabled girls mouth and claim it's more evidence.

Dear Lake Braddock Secondary School Community,

After serving 25 years in FCPS at Lake Braddock Secondary School, with ten of those years serving as the principal, I have decided to retire.

I have spent much of my life connected to Lake Braddock and would not trade the years as a student, teacher, and administrator for anything.

I have been so fortunate to work with wonderful, dedicated colleagues who have inspired me with their passion for educating and mentoring the thousands of students that have come through Lake Braddock during my tenure. I will miss the amazing energy and professionalism that you bring to this school every day.

Finally, it is the impact of the outstanding students at Lake Braddock that I will remember most. Students, you are the heart and soul of why we do what we do every day and I will truly miss you and your families.

Thank you all for an amazing experience and I know that Lake Braddock will continue to set the bar for excellence in FCPS, Virginia and beyond.

Sincerely,

David F. Thomas
Principal
Lake Braddock Secondary School

---------------------

Dear Lake Braddock Secondary School (LBSS) Community:

As Dave Thomas shared this afternoon, he is retiring from LBSS after serving the school system for 25 years. We want to thank him for his dedicated service to LBSS and Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).

Please know that the Region 4 Office is committed to keeping a strong administrative team in place to ensure academic success for all of our students. Effective Monday, Dr. John Banbury will be joining the team as interim principal and will remain in this capacity in the coming months.

Dr. Banbury became the executive principal for the Region 1 office in April 2017, after serving as the principal of Oakton High School for thirteen years. In 1993, Banbury began his career in education as a social studies teacher at West Potomac High School. After serving as an assistant principal at W.T. Woodson High School and Frost Middle School, he became the principal of Oakton High School in 2004. Committed to preparing all students for postsecondary success in a rapidly changing world, Dr. Banbury established a culture of innovation through the work of professional learning communities and fostered progressive practices including student exhibitions, presentations of learning, and project-based learning. His work has led the division in establishing best practices for the FCPS Portrait of a Graduate.

Dr. Banbury earned his master’s degree in social studies education in 1993 and his doctorate in curriculum and instruction in 1998, both from The George Washington University (GWU). He teaches courses in education leadership and teacher preparation as an adjunct professor at GWU and George Mason University. He has served in advisory roles for GWU, the Virginia Department of Education, and the Virginia House Committee on Education.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Banbury to Lake Braddock. My office will work closely with Dr. Banbury and the community to ensure a successful second half of the school year and continued excellence at LBSS.

Sincerely,

Angela Atwater
Assistant Superintendent, Region 4
Fairfax County Public Schools

Parents rule that building and that’s not the way to run a school! Teachers are leaving now. Kids will suffer. At least it’s calm for now? Dave went down because the people under him failed. They were handled but Park and his merry band of fussy people couldn’t be content with the guilty being charged. Park was after Dave’s head. I hope he’s happy. No one else is. Quick, get your kids out before acadenics implode over there.

Oh give it a rest about Park. He did what he thought was right and he had a lot of support from the parents.

Dave Thomas went after Clark and Poythress and threw them under the bus to cover his own butt. He got what he deserved, the same fate that he gave to them.

If the teachers want to leave, let them go. LB will attract the better up and coming teachers that were not part of Dave's clique and will be better off.

Changes are much needed at LB, most think they should clean house, all Asst Principals, Administrators, DSA, all should be replaced.

The new interim principal is there to evaluate the changes that need to occur and FCPS will put that plan in motion when the new school year starts in August.

Not sure why anybody would want to teach in FCPs with its entitled parents and kids with no respect for authority. Pretty soon, they'll have to pull prisoners and offer to take time off their sentences if they promise to teach. Once they started teaching though, they'd be happy to serve out their full sentence.

Just remember that retaliation is making it personal.

The first thing you should know is that retaliation of this sort is illegal. FCPS employees have a right to voice complaints without being fired or otherwise punished. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is a place that you can file a complaint if you choose. I know a growing number of FCPS employees are afraid to bring illegal actions to light if they thought they were just going to be fired, so they must be given the freedom to file complaints without fear -- regardless of the end result of those cases. But.... that being said, retaliation complaints is still very common with FCPS Human Resource Office. As such, it's wise to spend less time worrying about retaliation and more time considering your legal options and your rights as a worker.

A responsible school board member is Elizabeth Schultz from the Springfield District. Share your concerns with her via email and cc the email to the Regional Assistant Superintendent Dr. Atwater.

So I am confused about one thing...

A - I keep seeing that "Coach P", who I am assuming is Poythress from the string here, was fired because he covered up a student alcohol violation and called kids (or talked with kids) inappropriate things.

B - I also see that he was fired for "being a mole" and people think he should be protected by the whistle blower law.

The two things are totally separate. So if he did "A", the protections afforded to "B" do not exist. I don't know the facts but would ask anyone on here who does this question....

Did he, in fact, cover up a LBSS student's alcohol use from the administration? If so, then his contract would stipulate his being fired and there may be a consequence to his teaching license. Protections that fall under "B" would not exist and it would seem that fans of his coaching are using that (meaning B) to distract from the real issue in "A"

This is separate from Mr. Thomas and whether he should or should not have been let go (whether now or in the recent past). I see there are many opinions on both sides.. but I can't follow the whole "Coach P" thing.

I agreed with FCPS and Dr. Banbury to accept a transfer to another school as an overstaff ADSA for the remainder of the year.

I have enjoyed the last 15 months working with all of you. I am proud of the strides that we have made during that time to improve the HPE Dept. and our Activities/Athletics for our students. We have made some significant improvements to our facilities and culture for our student-athletes; Student-Athlete of the Month board; new gym floor, new lower bowl practice turf, new bleachers going to be installed in the gymnasium this summer and new LED lights to be installed over the main court of the gymnasium. We all worked together to change the culture & climate of our teams to better represent the Lake Braddock school & community Each and every one of you makes a significant impact on the lives of students here at LBSS. I know that all of you will continue to do the same for kids.

I am going to enjoy ..............BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH...........
Enjoy the Spring Break…you all deserve it! I'm going to iHop!!!!

He was hand picked by Kerns and approved by Dave. If the coach stays, he should be required to have his assistant coaches lose weight, first off its unhealthy and second, is that what you want representing your school?

I think most are happy the way the new interim Principal is evaluating all the admin staff, teachers and coaches. This is the way things should be done, get rid of the dead weight and then you get rid of the turmoil.

FCPS has finally got it right

"happy the way the new interim Principal is evaluating all the admin staff, teachers and coaches"????? - Many are not happy. Especially the teachers. Turmoil is crushing morale and the atmosphere is akin to a witch hunt. Perhaps it would have been better to reassign the entire faculty, dispersing them throughout the county and hiring replacements from out of county, out of state or out of country. How can kids concentrate on academics when many of their teachers are miserable.

Sure some teachers are still crying that Dave is gone but most teachers are ecstatic that administrators are FINALLY being held accountable for their LACK of leadership and the shitty job they do at school. We are happy that teachers and departments are finally being called out for not doing their jobs. Most of us are welcoming this change because the culture (and the students know this) at LB is at a tipping point. Banbury isn’t here to make friends, he’s here to shape things up and he has. Good riddance. Anyone’s who gotten kicked out of LB has deserved it thus far. Karl did not do his job and was a shitty DSA. Dave was too scared to tell people to do their jobs and had too many connections with too many people to be a good leader. We’re ready for next school year and all the change it’ll bring.

Oh there will be more replacements/reassignments for sure.

Too many admins and teachers were allowed to coast under Dave Thomas and those will be weeded out. Dr Branbury is doing exactly what has needed to be done to get this school in order.

Thomas created a clique like environment and if you were not part of that, you were considered an outsider. Now the tables have turned, the Thomas supporters are on the outside.....How does that make you feel?

I too am looking forward to the much needed changes and am ready for what the next school year will bring.

Thank you Dr Branbury!!!!

We all bail because we aren’t respected anymore. We love our kids and our job. This isn’t how to lead inside a school. The morale is gone. Come fall, I hope Branbury has enough teachers to open! We hate working like this. We have done great work. Like Dave or not, respect is necessary or we all bail and then what will FCPS do?

Oh please, you have teachers waiting to come to Lake Braddock. Putting good teacher in Lake Braddock will not be an issue. Its one of the top schools in the state.

I think respect is given to those who earn it, not just because you are friends with the principal.

Thomas is the one who started all this mess with his attitude of I will do as I want and those who test me, will be gone. Well, Mr. Thomas, got the same fate he dealt the others. Don't be mad at Branbury, he is the one trying to clean it up.

Why don't you being a part of the solution and not part of the problem, maybe that will help morale.

What did Kerns do in the 15 months he was there?

1. Alienated the boosters with his own agenda
2. Angered the parents with little or no communication
3. Planned in school activities with no prior approval from his bosses
4. Hired a football coach with a losing record, when other candidates were much more qualified. Tried to sell the idea to everyone this is the "best coaching staff in the state"

The list could go on and on.

This guy was a disaster from the start and never should have been hired. He had a terrible reputation at Annandale and the LB administration was told that. However, Dave Thomas hired him anyway just to be his "Yes Man" and when Thomas was shown the door, no one had any use for him.

The interim principal is not there to make friends. He is there to evaluate and replace, if necessary, admins, staff and coaches who are there just collecting a pay check.

The Thomas party is over at LB its time for a change and if that means cleaning house, then let the house cleaning continue.

First time posting. Excuse me but you are wrong. Boosters do what they want. Communication with parents? Isn’t your kid in high school? What do you want? Ask your kid. We have a new gym floor, the lower field being redone, new seats in the gym, new weight board. He was doing his thing. Run off by pissy parents? Do they run this school? And about the coach, are you serious? He doesn’t have that power as DSA. That coach has turned around a bunch of loser thugs into a “family” of leaders and athletes. My kid’s friends are getting offers from Schools, better grades, higher test scores, management in the gym, and real encouragement. These kids will tell you they were mad last year and wouldn’t follow the structure and program in place until they saw Coach Doc was the way to victory. After the third game, they gave in and started to work together. He and his staff are the best thing over there. My kid would be nobody without Coach Doc and his staff. You better watch your mouth saying shit like that now. You can take down Dave, I guess. Taking down Kerns was nasty and wrong. You mess with Doc and you’ll have trouble on your hands. For sure.

I second that comment. My boy needs Coach Doc and what he’s brought to that pathetic program. It has turned a corner and it’s clear. Best coaching staff? Yes. Measured by more than wins. Check those grades and the respect. Ask a teacher about the ass athletes that used to go to Lake Braddock. No more of that. He has their ear and he has bonded them now. Messing with Doc would cause big big problems.

Give it a rest on THE BEST Coaching staff. Not THE BEST DRESSED. Not the BEST physically. NOT THE BEST in LB's 50 year history, wouldn't be in the Top 5 of any Coach that has led the BRUINS.

Those loser thugs you talk about, are now doctors lawyers, business men and dentists, as well as respected members of the community. Some have started families and are very well adjusted. Ask any of them and they will tell you, LB football and coach P taught them life lessons on and off the field. They made friendships and contacts that will last a lifetime. He may of fracture a rule from time to time, but it was always with the best interest of the student athlete in mind. He had those players back and they had his.

They built the program and made it great and one of the most respected in the state, along with coach Poythress. I am sick and tired of the doc bashers saying anything different. If doc has to discipline another teachers student just because he is a football player, then doc is stepping over the line. It should be that teachers responsibility for that. Maybe those teachers need to be re-evaluated.

Anyone that wanted to play at the next level coach P made sure that happened.

If your kid would be no where with out doc and staff, maybe you should evaluate your parenting skills.

You can always say its not about the wins, but look at all the complaints there were when LB started 0-3. The boosters want to win and so does the community.

It’s Gatehouse continuing to send temporary and interim fixes to the problems and it keeps that school in turmoil.

Dave Thomas is still on the payroll. Coach P got a nice settlement. That Brabrand guy should have been fired along with his girlfriend. Dan Meier was sent for a year and look what they let happen to him. Someone didn’t like being held accountable. (She’s been seen sucking up already.) HR has no professional degree in HR so her knee jerk reaction to the BS caused more upheaval. She’s one of the superintendent’s puppets doing as she’s been told? Interim people at Gatehouse do that too. Anyone know what happened to Dan Meier and the work he was doing as asked? Ask around at Gatehouse and they will spill it. Huge mistake.

Next was Penny Gros from another region. The community started to grow weary. Ask her about her time there? It was awful for a long time and then she was making her way only to be moved and replaced by the results of a fake national search. Now there is yet someone else as principal at Lake Braddock? No one cares now.

We have cycled through principals great and terrible. Still, we wait for Gatehouse to fix all the hurt, damage, and screwups from the past.

They’re just too clueless to see the mistakes they continue to make. The solution is right in front of their faces and has always been there. They just refuse to listen or the ears are interim and leave.

It is a challenge to take over a large school when it has been rudderless for such a long time. The guy has been successful elsewhere, but FCPS is a unique beast. I doubt he will be happy or many of the teachers happy for some time. My guess is that he will kowtow to the parents which is a big mistake. Many of them are toxic. Kids are good, most teachers are great, LBSS will survive, but it will be rough. It would be better if tow or three of the admin team could be replaced as well as some department chairs. The interims with the exception of Meier wreaked havoc regarding stability and loyalty. A cloud of suspicion and paranoia is hard to eliminate.FCPS should take this as a lesson learned when they begin their search for Robinson's replacement.

Mr. Park please, aren’t you tired? You must be tired. You have to be.

For your own health, and for those who love you, stop this insanity. Your insatiable appetite to further ruin Dave Thomas’ career will ultimately be your downfall.

You chose to put a lot of resources into ruining a man and his career. You won. You alone had Thomas removed from a school he loved.

Your hatred is well known. For whatever reason, no matter who agrees with and supports you, or not with what you did and had done, you won. Personally, I did not then, and I don’t now. Still, you “won”.

Continuing to do what you’re doing is not unlike that of someone going to the well once too many times, before there’s nothing left.

This constant pressure you keep on the powers that be, is beginning to fall on deaf ears. At some point, and I’ll assume sooner rather than later, the universe/nature will begin to work against you. It’s not you who I care about, as I truly don’t think I could care any less. But what about your daughter? Your son? God forbid, what would happen to your family if you were to succumb to the stress you must physically and emotionally feel almost constantly? What then?

Are you not tired Mr. Park?

I do wish your family all the best.

Doc has done such wonderful things at Lake Braddock and for the community. The way he has built the football program with so many of the boys getting scholarships and being responsible young men. The sense of pride in the program and community spirit.
I think with him captaining the ship, everything in the athletic department will be A OK!

OCR still hasn't responded to the Park complaint--there is nothing there. Bryan Gibson did a clean investigation and found the system took action to address the concerns. Of course Dave was given a settlement to cushion his removal for obviously ridiculous reasons. Unfortunately, there are times an expedient decision is made that, while it isn't right, it is hoped to allow everyone to move on. If Bill and his friends could move on, the school system, the students, parents and teachers of FCPS would be able to focus on what is important--a safe and sound public education.

Everyone who saw how poorly this (and other) situations have either moved on to greener pastures or continue to work at FCPS with the knowledge that public furor can trump sanity.

Focus on the kids and not petty issues from parents.

How was his removal for obviously ridiculous reasons?

Dave lied about what he knew, then tried to throw people under the bus to cover it. This as well as other documented times where he tried to cover up as well.He put students in an unsafe environment and gave them no voice to be heard. He could care less about the students at Lake Braddock, he only cared about his reputation.
He got what he deserved, he was fired!

He thought a gym teacher would just go away quietly, but when you mess with a bull, you get the horns

The bill park and Jim poythress fans who keep posting don’t know the purpose of education. All you care about is protecting homophobic, racist, misogynistic morons. You bullied those who are different your entire lives and are sharing that hate with your children.

For all the Dave fans, If any teacher was bullying students, why didn't Saint Dave step in and do anything? He waited until his butt was on the line for fostering a dangerous environment for students, then decided he would push the blame elsewhere. Well it sure caught up to him in the worse way.

Oh but its ok to have a principal that cares more about his reputation then the safety of the students.

Just realized that Bryan Gibson got a promotion on the basis of a bungled investigation and destruction of these girls.
At least one of Dave’s buddies got ahead.

It is amazing, how many posters feel qualified to opine on how a public school should be run, given their limited exposure to the massive undertaking it is.

Fcps is a massive entity. There is no value in striving to provide anything but the highest quality product to its customers.

As evidenced far too often with large organizations, it is the individuals that betray the organization, yet it is the organization that must pick up the pieces.

Can you think of any large entity that doesn't have shitty humans who act shittily?

That's shit, America. Quit fuckin up. Respect your sister and your brother.

Totally agree..
These people are just doing their jobs. They don't have an agenda like some of the angry parents posting on here. The mob mentality is what has caused these problems and the honest hard working people who try to sort it out get lambasted. The facts should matter--not individual sense of privilege or grudges. Good for Gibson for getting promoted. Good for the rest of those who have moved on to bigger and better things.
The school system tried to address a gym teacher who created an environment that was unsafe for coworkers and students. They have respected privacy and cannot share all they know. He degraded male and female students, created a hostile environment, and violated security protocols. All totally separate from Bill Park's witch hunt. People on here are posting with one sided and false information.
Treat each other with respect and stop the attacks.

FCPS can’t ever do it right? What a mistake in not naming Doc to ADSA. This must be another set up. The DSA will be fired next? What a screwed up place to work!

The faster the rest of the Park kids can graduate the sooner that phony, annoying, entitled set of snowplow parents can deploy their wrath on unlucky post secondary institutions. Good day to you sir....I said good day.

Why you try to blame Park? FCPS sweeps things under the rug and cover by hiring people they can manipulate. The things those girls endured were awful and yet the principal has been receiving his salary since he was “fired”? How Thomas wasn’t actually fired comes out and FCPS doesn’t say a word?

This current principal? I’m just glad he’s not mine. He commits to all kinds of things that make his bosses think he’s innovative. Then he quits. He’s another in a long line of ruined people Gatehouse is using.

Park is smarter than anyone in charge around there so you can just quit saying that crap.
