Feeling Depressed
Posted by: struggle ()
Date: November 27, 2017 05:57PM

Ever since the time change I am really depressed and unable to work at my normal rate. Ive tried LUX light and exercise and St. Johns wort. Exercise helps a lot but I cannot always get out for that. Anyone else struggling?

I remember my college used to have UV lamps for folks like you, some people are just really sensitive to the loss of sunlight. Seasonal depression is very much a thing, and for certain people it can throw them into a depression without them even understanding why.

That lousy low light time of the year, its why the holidays are in this period, to give us cheer, so cheer up, they will be going by the time Christmas rolls around, the light will be stronger even thou it true winter, we will turn the corner on another year and in no time the days will be getting longer and brighter, you got a month then we thru it.

So Cheer Up and Go to Fishmarket in Old Town to drink some cold beer and eat some great seafood and be in a happy place! They have the Boatburger basket for meat eaters too with onion rings and a 1/2 pound burger. Hell Kilroys or PJ Skiddos can perk you up too. As well as many other places all over NOVA and DC, The Doldrums are the time to be Merry! Take a room at Kent Island or Annapolis and spend the weekend shitfaced and happy at least one night,no driving drunk ever! Taxis are loads cheaper then DWI's. Be Happy Don't Worry!

We must have been at the same college, what a coincidence it would be if it were the same year!

Damn I miss those days at Strayer.

Thanks for all the advise. I tried to download the tank game but it wouldnt load - better off without it. I do use a LUX light with blue light that helps a little and I take melatonin at night. I dont drink and I dont think taking a depressant is a good way to treat depression. I am fighting going to a shrink because they are ungodly expensive (500 buck for initial visit and 250 each after) - who needs that rip off. Was thinking of asking my GP if he would prescribe something. It will be nice out today so Ill get in 15-20 miles on the bike that will help

Just move some where warmer further south. They have longer days even in the winter.

I have the same issue plus mid life crisis. I have a do-nothing government job so I hate work and I hate being home. My wife and I have not had sex in nearly two years. My kids are grown and moved away. My dog died in July. I drink fairly heavily. I have put the gun to my head a couple times but have not pulled the trigger yet. Hope this makes you feel better.

I stopped drinking 4 years ago - if I hadnt Id have pulled the trigger by now. Drinking helps nothing and makes things worse. PS no one has sex with their wife after age 55 especially after the kids go.

I am 31 and live in my Mom's basement. I went to NVCC for 5 years and never got a degree. I work in fast food. I drive two beater cars because one of them is often broken down. The only 2 girlfriends I ever had were wack-job stalker, emotionally disturbed girls. I post on Fairfax underground.
It doesn't get more depressing than that.

Man, the depression hit like a ton of bricks as soon as the time change happened.

Please see your doctor and have your vitamin D levels checked. MOST people in this region have extremely low levels and of those, MOST aren't getting treated because they don't realize the problem.

Low Vitamin D can lead to depression.

Go see the festival of lights in Bull Run, especially at night. Seeing the pretty lights and happy people cheered me up. Or just walk around the mall and people watch (unless you are a certain fat someone from Sterling who we all know shall remain unnamed, get the fuck away from us and our kids trying to see santa!) Watch them spend up all their money and fight over the last doodad while you chill with a cup of coffee LOL.

Sure, i could go volunteer at my local shelter to feed the homeless or something, but that only made me more depressed there are those with worse lives than me and here I am sad over some petty BS.

Just remember- you don't HAVE TO give gifts if you don't want to/honestly can't afford it. Just spend time with your family, especially the young kids (assuming they are not narcissists)- THAT is the reason for the season. Yeah, that Jesus guy too.

I am just upset at what happened to me close to the holidays, so it is inevitable every year about this time I get sad, but it is what it is.

I try to play it up for the kids at least- they don't deserve to be brought down with me it is not their fault nor choice to be here all they know is Santa so I help them believe- then once they are in bed I go in my room and put an extra shot in my egg nog. Season's greetings.

What really sucks is living here and having a career at baskin-robbins. When Mom goes and I lose the rent free basement and probably end up homeless. I can sleep in the car and maybe spend one night a week in a cheap motel.

Fairfax county Virginia:
A detestable suburban backwater of America's lame, bland and culturally vacant capital. Filled with characterless subdivisions populated with characterless people and the poor immigrants that serve them, this place is so utterly conventional and uninteresting that it actually makes Westchester, Long Island, and Northern New Jersey look like they aren't cultural wastelands. Fairfax doesn't suck simply because it lacks museums and "culture"--this is to be expected of any suburb. It sucks because the city it borders sucks. That city sucks because it is the center of government, and to be successful in government, one must be as uncontroversial (hence, boring, conventional) as possible. Any individual considering giving birth and raising children should realize that forcing them to grow up in Fairfax will stunt them intellectually, emotionally, and aspirationally, for the rest of their lives.

Kid: "Why am I so bored that all I do all day is (smoke pot/drink/smoke cigarettes) and/or try to act like a (redneck or rap star)?

Wizened person: Because you live in Fairfax Virginia. Hope you at least get into college or something.

Most motel rooms can sleep 4. You could get with 3 other homeless people and share a room 4 nights a week. That way you only sleep on the streets 3 nights a week. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas!

don't listen to beaners telling you bannanna will cure depression: it's full of SUGAR

sugar causes diabetes or pre-diabetes and anything that "downs" your gastro-intestinal system comes along with a wide variety of symptoms: including depression

---------------------------

eat fish veges bread no fruit and no dodos, no cheezits

don't take any prescriptions or drugs or alcohol

break a sweat once a day, but no more if you not the athlete type

if you poisoned yourself with chemicals like paint, time cures, may be a while, but oh well don't do it again

you'll see
