I have a neighbor who lets her dog run loose and every morning, including today leaves a big pile of shit my front yard ( a big dog ), and the the dog digs up my grass after using my rest room.

I have tried to speak to her but she just walks away.

I have called animal control but they say they can't do anything unless they catch the dog in the act.

Any serious ideas of what I can do.....no I am not going to shoot the dog.

Return the turds to her doorstep. She may get the point when she has a pile of feces on her porch every day. Worked for me in a similar situation.

We just moved into a new "upscale" development and floored by the number of people who routinely walk dogs over to other people's yards to go to the bathroom. When we had a dogs, we trained them to go to the bathroom in the farthest corner on our property; we certainly didn't walk them to our neighbors' yards (!?!). And barking dogs - multiple people let their dogs bark either all day or every night from 10-10:30 pm. We picked the wrong neighborhood.

My brother is FFX Police. I had same problem. Police don't really like these calls, but it is trespassing and it is an annoying problem. Problem will be ongoing unless you deal with it directly and on the record. Talking to her hasn't worked, and so it won't, so file a one page trespass complaint with FFX Police (online - animal trespass) and courthouse. If you send a warning letter and have a surveillance camera or picture (easy since it's everyday) even better, that's all you need. She won't do anything else she knows you are serious. Too bad you have to do this but I understand.

Simple problems require simple solutions. Set up a series of M-18 Claymore mines, then lay in wait to ambush the offending pooch.

When Fido is in position, and has has begun to drop a load, activate the Claymore, and the problem will be solved.

A bowl of anti-freeze...that dog will never bother anyone again.

Call the non emergency number for the police.
They will send someone over to your neighbors house and warn them or cite them for the noise. You will remain anonymous.
After the 2nd or 3rd time, it'll stop. Your neighbors won't want to continue to pay fines or show up to court.
There's a new Fairfax County noise ordinance in effect.

If you cannot approach them to ask, just call the popo and take advantage of the law.

Motion activated sprinklers work well (the dog won't care but let's get real, it's the owner's fault, not the dog) but once the temps dip too low you could end up with frozen pipe issues.

You should go out and buy a much bigger dog, and an aggressive dog. Your dog will kill the other dog the second it goes on your property, and you won't even get in trouble because her dog was on your property.

There is a reason why there is a lease law for dogs and not one for cats.

My cat has been attacked 4 times within the past 18 months by dogs on leashes.
One attack was by a lady walking 2 dogs.

In one instance, my cat according to our neighbor was under a bush about 5 feet from the sidewalk and "dog lady" lets her dog dig into the bush and start something with my cat.

Then I find out that this dog walker was bit my cat when her dog's leash "malfunctioned".
What she had actually done, is reach down between the sparring animals to defend her "poor dog" from the cat's retaliation and then wanted us to pay for the Vet bill as the dog received a nice scratch on it's nose.


In another case the dog on an extendable leash, went after our cat on our property. My teenage son came out and yelled at the dog walker who then kicked my cat on my lawn and cussed out my son.

The man left with his dog while cussing out my son.
I was at work. This would have ended differently if I were home.

Regardless of whether dog owners pick up poop, dog owners should NOT enter people's private yards, even if they clean up. It does damage to the property, bushes, lawn... and it smells, particularly in summer. Most neighborhood common areas and parks are fair game, of course, but people's front yards should not be treated like common areas. People should train their dogs to go regularly in their own yards, not their neighbors' yards. Common courtesy that is not so common around here.

The type to go this shit is ALWAYS self entitled democrats.

Print any ordinances in the county that pertain to noise or property per complaints as above..and mail them to the neighbor if you know who they are.or where they live (address envelope “Neighbor “ if you do not know them.do not be threatening.point out the law and request that they not blah, blah.

This usually worked for me.

For barking after 10 on a consisent basis, call non emergrncy number and file complaint.

For dog shit, I usually watched at night/ late afternoon. The first step was to just go out on the front porch , look busy. The owner usually will pick up the poop. If that does not work, ask them not to allow the dog to poop in your yard.The next step if this continues, place poop on their yard or porch. Lastly, as above, file a complaint

We have been thru dog hell. Same as OP.
Everytime a house around us sells, we just hold our breathe to see if they will have obmoxious dogs..

What they are doing is not right so you should try to talk to them again and explain that they are bothering you.
In case they do not understand, you can already appeal to the courts.
In general, I also have a dog, but I always try to be careful not to violate the personal space of neighbors or people on the street.
I do this not for them, but for me because it is important to feel good and to feel that I am not doing something abnormal to someone that affects their life or bothers them.
That's why I tried to buy the best wireless dog fence which in such a situation is very useful and is a necessary purchase for every person who has a dog.

Most people know it's rude but do;t care. Talking nicely to people who know they're rude is a waste of time. Handle rudeness with straightforwardness -- that'll work. If not, Door Camera captures 'em and send them a bill. Then Small claims court. FFX has come down harder on animal nuisance ordinances.

How about scaring your neighbor with a fine for trespassing on your property?

It's frustrating when neighbors don't respect your boundaries. Maybe you can somehow fence off your property so the dog can't get in? Otherwise, you have to deal with this issue officially, and maybe it will spoil the relationship with the neighbor.
Nevertheless, I think your neighbor is responsible, and if she lets her dog out to walk, she should clean up after her pet. Before getting a pet, I not only thought about my dog's samoyed colors complete guide, but I also thought about my dog's upbringing. I walk my dog at the dog park, always cleaning up after my dog.
