We once had a senator from NoVa (Scott) who was ranked by New Times magazine as the dumbest senator on Capitol Hill in the mid-1970s. Scott called a public press conference to deny the charge - confirming the accuracy of the New Times article!

A couple of interesting stories I remember from West Springfield High School. In the early 70's some TC Williams students started a riot/fire by the gym because they couldn't get into a basketball game. Also, in the 80's the school's principal (Lou Volrath) was fired for embezzling money from the school.

This did happen, as well as the "murder - suicide" in the late 80's (could be 90's...). The teenage girl's mom worked @ CHS (still did into the 80's). Case has never been closed, and living in Greenbriar during those times changed majorly for a few weeks/months, but then returned back to the peaceful normal of the time. [IIRC]

Anyone remember the airplane that landed in the Westfields area back in '94? After landing (crashing) in the field, the plane was considered a complete loss, so the owners sold it as scrap.

I just found out that the girl murdered was 14 year old Debroah Louise Anwyll. I was just wondering if they caught the guy.

His name was Billy Viscidi (spell?).This was maybe a year or so after this sick f---- named Artheur Goode abducted a kid near my 7 Corners home and killed him at the old Tysons Pits, so everyone was pretty sure it was another fruitloop like that again.A week or so went by with a intense search for the kid and what do you know? A detective notices some fresh dirt in the family backyard. A few digs of the shovel later and the kids body is exhumed. Story was his brother killed him accidentally(?) and the thing was covered up by the family to save the brother the trouble. They weren't some shit family either, I think the father worked for the government somewhere..

>I was talking a woman that grew up in Vienna a few months ago who knew the family, all I'd remembered is that late that one Summer this stuff was all over the news. I think she said no answers really came from the prosecution of the brother either because it was a juvenile court with sealed records. Weird!

I remember that story. It was 1978, I had just moved to the area and I was 11 years old. The boy's name was David Assadi. He was missing and all over the news. Then they found a shallow grave in the back yard. Turned out that his older brother had accidentally killed him when they were horsing around, then put him in a trash bag and buried him. The older brother apparently blocked the memory until all the evidence pointed to him. That story stuck in my mind because me and my younger brother were always fighting and horsing around and it freaked me out that this kid died doing just that.

Anybody remember the Veteren's Day snowstorm in 1987? Area got slammed with a blizzard starting early morning and by the time FCPS decided schools should be let out there was about 6" on the ground and it was coming down at 1-2"/hour. I was at Madison HS at the time and stupidly (now w/ 20/20 hindsight) walked the 2 miles home since I had boots. It took me and my friend 45 minutes to get home, but kids that took buses didn't get home for like 6 hours. Elementary kids getting home at 9pm!!

My perception is that after that, school was closing down if there was the slightest chance of accumulating snowfall during the day.

I also remember another set of storms (88 or 89?) that came through about 4-5 days apart and dumped at least a foot of snow each time...school was closed for about 2 weeks straight. I remember looking on the old Fairfax Co. School Channel (Ch. 21) on Media General cable and seeing that FCPS was just announcing school closings for the next 2-3 days in a row. They weren't even wasting time thinking it over.

That's the other edge of the FCPS control sword... they say they own your kids to and from the bus stop (they really do say they have control over them in the guardian sense), so that means when it's icy and they can't guarantee safe passage, they have to cancel school or risk being sued for a million falls.

I cannot remember if it was pre or post Marion Barrys base bust. It made a great front page pic for the Washington Post and of course great radio fodder for Greaseman who did his "Rawhide" roundup song!

B, that one is still a mystery to me. I talked to a woman form the neighborhood who seemed to think the court records somehow got sealed because of the brothers age and the Viscidi family shortly thereafter moved away( can you blame them?) It was some really weird shit!

Anybody remember this girl Lisa something who disappeared around 85 or 86 from Merrifield and was found decomposed in the Summer heat a few weeks later near where Fairview Lake is now? I think she was about 17 and they couldn't determine the cause of death her body had rotted so badly. They had a suspect but I don't think it ever came to charges.

Back around '71, a military guy and his son were coming back from the July 4th fireworks and got into a traffic altercation with some bruthas at Columbia Pike & Sleepy Hollow Rd in Annandale. The guy and his son got blown away.

I remember driving through there the next day and you could still see the police body marks on the pavement.

In this era of road rage this would probably get 2 or 3 lines on page B-7....but this was a shocking crime in 1971!

Another big crime long ago was the Roy Rogers massacre on Rt 236 & I-395 (Landmark)....bad guy marched 5 Roy's employees into the walk-in and executed all of them.

The guy who did that was named Breeden, he was very fortunate because we didn't have the death penalty at the time.

One woman actually survived- the low temp in the cooler helped keep her alive is the story. I think she is NIgerian, but a neighbor heard her give a testimonial about religion after the life shattering event.

I was a little squirt when that happened. I had gone with my mom up to the old Wonder Bread outlet on Seminary and there was dust everywhere, looked like WTC almost. We didn't find out until when we got home. I don't remember the airport, I don't think my eyes were opened yet.

That name escaped me, but I remember they were looking for her hard that Summer. I think the case was before DNA testing was perfected/improved and again no one could tell how she died.

I remember back in the late 80's early 90's a kid from the FFX/Chantilly area, that was attending Marymount I think, was found did and the police ruled it a suicide. However, his mother maintained that he was murdered possibly by a friend of his. Over the years I have seen memorials in the Post with her saying that the truth will some day be found. I want to say the kids name was Tommy but not sure. There were a few write ups in the Post about way back. Anyone remember that?

I believe the last name is Burkett, its on here somewhere else, I've read it. I always wondered what the case was about, seeing the memoriam year after year in the paper. I couldn't figure out the particulars of the case from reading it, but the mother alleges the son was murdered after becoming involved in drug sales and then as an informant. Grieving mothers will cling to a lot of stuff, I don't know if the woman is right or wrong, but I admire her dedication and love for her son.

I remember that. I think I had just moved into the Lake Braddock neigh. Apparently there was an electrical short on one of the trucks which started the fire. Because the building was so old, it did not have the proper smoke detectors. There was also a lawn mower place right next to it at the time.

I remember when I went to Lake Braddock, my graduating year (2004), one of the kids in my school took a shit in a book and threw it in the hall. Then one of my friends (who shall remain nameless) jumped on the book, making shit fly everywhere. The best part was, there was an administrator standing right behind him at the time. We called it "the shitbook incident of 04"... good times.

That happened in NYC too. I was listening to an online scanner one night, lol, and dispatch was reporting blown sewer tops in Queens.

I was here during the "Outbreak", and that was actually pretty terrifying for a while. My Old Man was in the MIL then, and plans were in place to quarantine the entire community.

Lol, the only thing I remember was the sudden and glorious disappearance of the mass of bums who used to wait at the D.C. side of the Roosevelt Bridge for sympathetic Virginians. They used to haunt that location by the dozens.

Isn't that the same case where the mother alleged that a Deputy was laughing at the entire matter, and that police kept ignoring indications of it being a homicide?

For a few years we had Tornado warnings every Spring and Summer, and multiple times at that. Fortunately we have been relatively spared for quite a while now (Knock on Wood). Cville and areas around IAD always get hit the worst, because they're on a lower lying flat plain. Although in Reston back in the 1970's we had one come down, and pull a tree in our front yard straight up and out of the ground.

If this case has not been solved, why does the FCPD fail to list it in the cold case section.

That guy was on a bridge over I-395, not the Memorial Bridge. I was stuck in that mess.

The tornado in 1972 that tore the roof off of Woodson High School and ripped into the front of what was then Safeway at Pickett Shopping Center (I think it's now Total Beverage).

Also the Air Florida plane that went down in the Potomac after hitting the 14th street bridge in Jan 1982. My mother saw that one!!

The guy in '99 was Ivan something or other and it was the Wilson Bridge.

Not sure if someone else mentioned it, but there was a copycat incident that December the afternoon of a Redskins playoff game too, but the police never released the guy's name.

The tornado was actually in 1973. My brother had been playing basketball at WTW that Sunday afternoon but he left moments before the tornado struck.

How about the Fairfax Hospital Sperminator, the doctor who used his own sperm in treating his patients for infertility?

He used to tell his patients that a fresh sample was available. Then he would provided it.

I think his name was Jacobson or something like that.

That was 1973, March 2 to be exact.

I was scarfin' a Double R Burger at Roy's (Rt 7 & Carlin Springs)...everybody ran out to look. People thought it was a fire initially because the huge dust plume looked like smoke.

The Woodson twister was less than a month later on April Fool's Day. Besides Woodson a school bus was hurled through the front of the ABC store in Pickett Shopping Center.

It also leveled a house on Sideburn Rd near Robinson...it was strange, the houses on both sides were undamaged, but the unlucky house was GONE.

You are correct. I was thinking 1972 because that summer I had worked for Fairfax County Public Works. We ate lunch on several occasions at the McDonald's on Route 7 which was frequented by many of the workers on the project.

Woodson students finished the school year at Oakton High, but the graduation was in the WTW stadium.

I lived on the 7th floor at Circle Towers when the April 1, 1973 tornado hit. We weren't in the direct path but on the fringes and I recall that it was pretty freaky. As soon as it passed, my roommate and I rushed down to hop in my car and go survey the area. We saw the apartment complex that took a direct hit just minutes after it happened ... looked like a giant buzz saw tore through. We also saw Woodson High and the Pickett Shopping Center - I remember being impressed by a Corvette in the Pickett lot with its fiberglass body completely trashed.

These days, I live in South Florida where we get even bigger & scarier storms. I was home alone in my top-floor condo when Hurricane Wilma hit in 2005 ... now THAT was scary!

Cheers,
Carol

I remember back in the mid to late '90s there was a boy about 12-years old or so that was lured over the Internet by some creep that lived in the area. The kid made his way across the country from out west and was staying at this dude's house on Popes Head Road. It was all over the local news for a brief period. I remember there being a bunch of cops parked out in front of the guy's house, but nothing beyond that. Can't remember the perp's name either. Come to think of it, I don't think I ever heard of who it was. Anyone remember this? It was in the early days of the Internet so I don't think these sorts of cases had came up too often yet.

In the early 90's I used to live on Medford Drive right by Annandale High. This guy in his early to mid 20's was dating this hispanic girl that lived in the townhouses behind our street (the ones across from St. Michael's Church). Her dad hated the guy, and one night he came over and caught the two in his house. He chased the kid into the woods that are part of the Lutheran Church's property directly behind my house. I remember waking up to this loud bang which turns out was a shotgun blast. They found his body the next day in the woods in a pool of blood. I met the man once early that week when he walked by my house and was talking to my dad about possibly buying one of his cars. Pretty sad story all around.

You have a couple of options.

If the family had a published telephone number, it would have been in a phone book.

The Fairfax County Library should have copies of old phone books. You might want to check with your local reference librarian to see where these are stored.

I suspect that you should first try the Virginia Room in the Fairfax City Regional Library and then the Technical Resources in Chantilly.

There might be clippings on the case in the files.

Try this link:http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/living/libraries/ .

If this is important to you, you could check to see if the family owned any property within the jurisdiction of the Circuit Court of Fairfax County. Buyers and sellers are listed going back more than 100 years.

I heard that the parents had been divorced. Try to find the divorce case in the archives of the Circuit Court. These are located across from the GMU Field House on University Drive in Fairfax.

Good luck.

I was wondering where the home is, as I live and work in Vienna.

I'd never go any further, just wondering where this horrific event happened; it seems like today's news stories always mention a block street address and the articles I found and linked did not include this information.

What happened to the surviving Viscidi brothers? Did they stay in the Vienna area?

Pretty interesting page on the airfield that used to be where the Skyline building is that partially collapsed: http://www.members.tripod.com/airfields_freeman/VA/Airfields_VA_Fairfax_NE.htm
Most of the older guys at the Moose Lodge on Scoville Street remember the drive-in theater on Route 7 and point to the landing lights still on top of the bank on Seminary Road.

Found it: 503 Princeton Ter. SW in Vienna. It's mentioned in several articles covering the case in the Washington Post.

I remember the airport and the movie theatre,
and the Skyline collapse (I live on the part that fell down),
and I used to go to the Moose Lodge all the time.

However, I am not an "older guy".

Uh oh, maybe I AM!

In retrospect, I think you are right about the man's information.

I got it online which means I did not really put any effort into it.

I do not have a problem if someone wants to delete my original post, especially after someone else published the exact address.

Becky my friend Louise and I did the same thing at the krispy Kreme. I wish I could remember what we charged for the doughnuts. I remember biking to the penguin feather and laughing at the bongs.

There use to be a guy who hung around Burke shopping malls in the 90s with paper towels on his head to protect his brain from alien messages. Anyone remember that freak? I guess the aliens finally got him.

I remember this story. I was also around 11 years old and it frightened me because I had never heard of a child disappearing. Do we know what ever happened to the brother? Was he convicted ...he must be out by now.

I drove by the Viscidi house a few days ago. It is creepy looking. I could never, ever buy a home where a child was killed and buried in the backyard. The houses in that (older) neighborhood are being torn down and replaced with mini mansions. The Viscidi house is a small brick rambler, modestly sized.

A quick internet search reveals that the accused brother is now living in New Jersey.

It looks like the parents and other brothers have moved away from NoVa. Mom and Dad and one of the brothers have Facebook pages.

I remember a local NBA team (that no longer exists) winning an NBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP once.
