"Some residents of Fairfax County, Virginia, say they're concerned about how many deer police are killing and the weapons they're using to do so.

Fairfax County Police Department's sharp shooting team plans to use AR-15 rifles to kill deer in Loftridge Park and Clermont Park in the Alexandria area of the county from mid November to mid March."

I can bludgeon them to death with an axe if the snowflake cuck residents would be less triggered by that.

Those that are offended by the use of guns to kill deer have not seen the pain and agony that they endure when hit by a car. It is an issue of compassion and a skilled marksman is far more compassionate than mowing poor Bambi down with your Prius.

Yea, I hit a deer once. I really wished I had a gun to put it out of it's misery. It had compound fractures on it's legs and was trying to stand up on the pavement. There was blood coming out of it's anus and mouth. Ugh. Then it sat there for a month on the roadside and I had to look at it..

Far less accurate and sometimes leads to a slow, painful death. Safer for the homeowners but not so nice on the deer.

If they select excellent responsible gunman, there should be no problems.

The urban and suburban area contain deer, but not natural predators of deer. Thus, deer are killed mainly by human activity. Cars rank high on the list of killing tools. According to State Farm, Virginia is the ninth highest state in likelyhood of deer collision, with Virginia residents having a 1 in 88 chance of colliding with a deer.

Deer have no EMS, no emergency rooms, no medical care. When they break bones and suffer internal injuries due to a car collision, they die. Sometimes you see them next to the road. According to the Wall Street Journal, three times as many run into the brush and die. That death is slow and agonizing.

If those concerned residents truly cared for deer, they would stop driving their cars. But they would rather allow their biases to control their life choices.

Sad, very sad

The woman who is concerned about the use of AR's doesn't know her ass from her elbow when it comes to firearms. Maybe if the cops use 45-70's she'd be happy?

From one year ago:
https://patch.com/virginia/fairfaxcity/more-virginia-drivers-hitting-deer-among-worst-states-nation

"More Virginia Drivers Hitting Deer, Among Worst States in Nation"

An estimated 1 in every 94 drivers in Virginia struck a large animal between July 2015 and June 2016 — that's an increase of 3.2 percent over the previous year. Overall, the U.S. saw a 3 percent increase in that same period.

According to State Farm, the national average cost per claim for 2015-16 was $3,995, down just slightly from $4,135.

Maybe the snowflakes won't melt down so much if the meat is butchered up and given out to the homeless folks free meals program.

357 Magnum revolver works great on Deer! I killed 2 last year in Winchester at my cousin's house. One shot to the head from about 30 feet. Deer died right away. The other was in the body. I then ran over to it and finished it off with a head shot. Good eating that weekend! Lots of tasty venison.

They tried that, but they complained that the meat was tainted by the lead that was in the ammunition. So the deer meat was deemed not fit for human consumption.

No, they expect them to use Colt 36 Caliber cap and ball pistols.

Exactly. She's just having issues with the use of AR-15s because the media has been so good at calling them military-style "assault" weapons. Common citizens educated by the media is not a good thing.

Take that great fandom you have and spend some time getting educated about guns. Lots of bullshit/misinformation in your post.

Realistically, AR-15's should be used more for target shooting and just goofing around. With how the gun control hunting is conducted where a deer is shot standing or moving leisurely through the woods, if a shooter cannot take down a deer with a single shot he not be permitted to be allowed to be one of the hunters in this deer control project.

The ownership and proper use of any firearm should be taken seriously. Leave the "Goofing around" to the video games.

The concern should not be that the hunters are using military style assault rifles. The concern should be that they are using rifles. A rifle shot whether coming from an assault style rifle or from a bolt action gun has the potential to go far beyond its intended target and still kill. In an area as built up and as heavily used as Fairfax there is great potential that someone could find themselves in the path of an errant bullet. The way to address this is by carefully selecting who is allowed to hunt. Only those who are willing to hold off until they have a clear shot, and who are certain that if they miss the shot will bury itself in the ground nearby, should be allowed to participate. If that part is done properly it does not matter whether the hunter is using an AK or is using a more traditional hunting rifle.

An AK? You are indeed retarded.

You should reach out to the cops and tell them all of this. Maybe offer to conduct a training class for them as I'm sure all of this is very new to them.

Typed AK rather than AR when autocorrect tried to convert AR into are. Otherwise you completely missed the point.

The hell with all of the AKs and ARs.

Want to hunt deer like a pro?

Use a MG-42

AR-15 is Safe and effective and gives a quick death without long suffering.
If the backdrop is safe a shot should be made.

The deer population needs to be managed. How many live deer are worth 1 human being killed by Deer running across traffic?

>My main concern aside from civilian safety is that the deer are killed humanely, and I wonder what caliber and loading the FCPD sharpshooters are using in their AR-15s.

The standard caliber for an AR-15 is .223 or 5.56 mm. Some states mandate that nothing less than .243 caliber ammunition be used to hunt deer, and the the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries states that the minimum caliber bullet for deer hunting with a rifle must be .23 caliber. (See https://www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/regulations/general/)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Exactly. Using .223 caliber is illegal in Virginia and many states to hunt deer , so I question if the police hunting them with this caliber is true. And if rifle hunting is too dangerous for citizens in Fairfax Co, It should be the same for police.

The use of police officers for deer management is a waste of manpower and money, there are plenty of responsible citizen hunters that can be recruited and trained for this by Animal Control, and they would use shotguns or bows.

Regular (firearms) hunting season begins this Saturday, Nov. 18, in many parts of our region.

Remember: It's always a good idea to wear bright colors when in the woods during hunting season, no matter where you go!

If something is to be banned simply because it's black, ugly and simply dangerous to be around, why limit it to guns?

Ahhh, that explains the timing of all the Dulles Gun-Show commercials I've seen in just the past few days.
